Nice videos! I've been paddling a Starboard touring 12'6 / 30 this summer. Nice board, but I think it's a lite too wide for my taste. Looking for alternatives. Something more sporty. Can't go super narrow though. Need to deal with some chop

Thanks, we appreciate that you like our videos! 😊 You can go narrower with a hardboard and will also handle chop better. If you can store and transport a hardboard and don’t need the durability of an inflatable.

Is this a fair comparison? Wouldn't you pit two touring boards together not a race board and a touring board? I would have thought the Starboard 12 ft 6 Touring Deluxe Double Chamber would have been a fairer contest, there are those of us also that are not so slender and in this case (88kgs and no fat) would you want a completely different board to that of someone say 65kgs? My wife has fun on boards I cannot even ride because of her weight.

It's the boards we have and have experience of and at this time when did the video we didn't have any touring boards, if it's fair, I don't know. Red Paddle Sport is not touring, for me sport claims to be faster. Red Paddle have a touring serie and also race, sport should be between them. The good things with boards is they come in different width to suite a wide range of paddlers. Of course narrow race board is not fot everyone.

For someone around 80 to 85kg, would you still recommend the 12’6” airline starboard? (27” width)

      We normally use 14’ boards. For 80-85kg I would choose a 14’x26” or maybe a 14’x28”.

@@danerik.westerlind Thanks for the quick response. If it’s longer, is it much harder to turn without doing a step-back turn or does a cross bow turn work well enough most of the time?

@@peterkim3887 With good paddle technique you don’t need to do step-back turns, cross bow works fine. I never use step-back because our dog sits in the back of the board. We are going to do a comparison between 12’6 and 14’ starboard allstar airline.
