I saw a video made by the makers of that product and it actually was caramel (they had it written in english) and they also put chocolate sauce it too🤢
It isn't really necessary if the eggs are fresh. Fresh eggs have a tiny bubble of air in the bottom, between the shell and the inner skin. That air bubble grows bigger as the egg's fluids evaporate over time. So an old egg might crack during cooking because the air wants to get out. Either way, he poked the egg at the wrong end. Does anybody else get random thoughts about Gulliver's travels all of a sudden?
The neon egg visual I think is trying to illustrate that if you hold the shaken egg up to the light, it should look different to an unshaken egg. That's because you're trying to break the yolk to make an all yellow egg, so if it looks different you know you've shaken it enough.
I think the instructions also say to boil the water, turn off the heat and add the egg in (wrapped in plastic wrap for some reason) and let sit in the hot water for 30 minutes. Nothing about punching a hole as far as I can see.
@@peterzingler6221 maybe the plastic wrap acts as insulation? And since it's off the heat, it should take longer than just boiling it regularly. But 30 mins sounds like overkill, I agree 😅
Hey Barry! I implore you to try the egg custard pudding one again. You're actually supposed to take the egg, spin it for two minutes. Then bring a pot of water to the boil- and take it off the heat. Put the eggs in the hot water and let them sit in it for the thirty minutes. The residual heat is the key. You over cooked it. The concept is a soft, custardy pudding similar to Japanese caramel puddings. ^_^ Fun fact, you can also do soft boiled eggs that way(just minus the spinning). They're called "onsen tamago" So basically hot spring eggs. Very fun.
In fairness not every scale has it. Most I've seen just have "on/reset", and assuming that he doesn't buy new scales every 6 months, it's reasonable to believe that he's never seen it before.

The burger press they used for the fresh burgers in supermacs here in Ireland. You need to use less meat and its usually pressed in between baking paper. Then you can layer it up i.e 2 meats for 5oz burger and 3 meats for 7oz burger
@@peterzingler6221 usually the press part comes off to clean. But definitely a smaller amount not in a ball but flatten a small bit to press evenly out
The air pocket is on the bottom (wide) end of the egg. The whole idea of poking it is to allow the air to escape rather than crack the shell as it expands. You also don’t need to do it to fresh eggs.
The chalazae in Japanese eggs are generally more delicate, and easier to break (that's why you're spinning the eggs end-over-end, to break the chalazae (the ropey membranes within the egg that attach it to either end) and rupture the yolk) and "scramble" the egg within the shell. Please don't boil any egg for 30 minutes, it didn't do anything to you (yet). You want to puncture the egg at the wide end, that's where the bubble of air is (I've told you this before). Also, please don't add your saliva to the ingredients of anything; it's frowned upon... in... some circles. I am sure that, by the time they're tweens, your kids wouldn't appreciate it either (you don't chew their food for them still, do you?). Enjoyed the mini-barra-thon; I LOVE the anguish and laughter you put me through!
@@astridroseby That depends on your tolerance for awful tasting eggs. Over-boiling eggs gives them that nasty green discoloration of the yolk (also makes it smell - and taste - like sulfur) and makes the texture rubbery and eraser-like. Don't do that to yourself; life's too short for that.
From what I'm seeing in the other comments, the gadget was apparently intended for like an egg pudding type thing, on the package it also mentions the word "sweet", people also mentioned that the creators have a video of it up somewhere with some English subtitles or somethin and they used caramel and chocolate sauce, the point of all that is yes it was indeed chocolate and caramel sauce

For the Nutella knife I remeber the story like this: Years ago there was a Nutella tv commercial in German TV with Boris Becker and he used a normal table knife. At the end he leaked the knife (as a lot of people do). There was a huge ecitement of viewers because he should not show kids on TV to lick a (maybe sharp) knife. So Nutella said it was a special Nutella knife and surprisingly you could buy that weeks later. Now I think there is a WMF version as well.
A better explanation of what "tare" is for on scales: it makes the scale ignore the weight of whatever container you put on it (resetting it to zero), in order to properly measure what you need to.
For instructions in other languages, the Google translate app has a feature where you can photograph what you need to translate - could be handy for preventing future fails 😃
I have had Mayo knives for years and love them! Yes, they fit the jar, are flat for spreading, and reach all the way to the bottom. The top of the knife even has intentions to get around the bottom of the jars ridges!

Two helpful things I wanted to mention: If you have the Google Translate app on your phone, open that up and go to camera mode, and it will live-translate whatever you point it at. You may have to go into some settings and download support for japanese, but if you do this you'll be able to read instructions on these foreign products you review a little better. Second thing is the Tare button.. that's basically a scale zero button. Since it says Tare+, they intend you to be able to measure up multiple ingredients in that cup at the same time. You could pour in 100ml's of one thing, zero it out, 50ml's of another thing, zero it, 300ml's of something else, zero it, etc... then dump it all in your mixing bowl or whatever at the same time.

Enjoyed this one a lot. Quick note: Burgers should be barely formed, all that mixing and forcing just makes them hard. Just put the mince straight from the pack into the press, season, then gentle form it. Burgers should be formed tenderly. Give your meat love, and tenderness 😂
I used to work in a butchers and we had one of those burger press things. I found that the perfect amount was enough to make a little ball in your hands. Like just enough to be a ball that fits in your palm. I had to put a little circular piece of greaseproof paper on top and bottom as well (makes it easier to get out, handle and package).
Just started watching your vids and love them. I have never pierced an egg before hard boiling and unless the shell is cracked I've never had an egg explode. The way I've always done them is to put the eggs in cold water, bring them to a boil and immediately shut off the heat. When you can reach in the water and grab them with your bare hands they're done.
The whole light and dark egg for the Japanese one is how you check if the egg has been mixed thoroughly. If it's dark it, its mixed, if its light it's not mixed. It's called candling an egg they do it to check for chicks. Just hold the egg up to a flashlight and the light will try to pass through the shell and egg.
Best way to cook eggs "boiled" is in the pressure cooker. Place eggs on the egg stand or on something so eggs are not touching the sides or water, add 1 cup of water. 6 min, medium pressure, let sit a few min then (after making sure all steam is gone) place eggs in cold water. They peal super easy to peal.
The sauce they use in the Japanese instructions is a savoury sauce. Can't remember the name but I've had it at a friend's place a very long time ago. Tasted like caramelized soy sauce, salty but a tiny bit sweet, and was about the consistency of molasses. It wasn't caramel like you used, but I can't say I wouldn't try that either. XD
So the egg gadget is for egg pudding/flan. You spin the (uncooked) egg for about 2 minutes then boil for about 30 minutes according to the instructions. Also the image with the glowy egg and non-glowy egg is for you to see if the egg has been mixed. Glowy egg means NOT scrambled. Darker egg means Scrambled! :D
I have chronic nightmares, and I swear your videos are the only thing that relaxes and calms my mind enough to fall back asleep. Amazing content as always. Keep up the epic job
From my research I think you were supposed boil water, turn the heat off, and put the eggs in for 30min. If you boiled them for 30 min, no wonder they were not tasty nor custard-like, blech.
19:19, Barry unleashes his inner Ellis in the Barshens Mod for Left 4 Dead 2. Also, Nutella macarons sound dangerously tempting. As well as sounding like some sort of European noble family.
Little tip for any instructions that are not in english. Try the Google Lens app. Its able to at least roughly translate whatever text youre scanning with your camera.
16:36 I'd love to see Barry test some interchangeable mesh baking sieves in the future and see if they're easy to use. I like the idea of them since they seem easier to store in a small kitchen, and you're hopefully less likely to spill over the edges. It sucks that they don't have a handle tho.
Pro tip: never salt the inside of your burgers like Barry did. It draws water out of the inside of the burgers giving them a meatloaf-like feel whereas if you salt the outside it draws water only out of the surface allowing for a good crust.
I think the Nutella knife really only shows its usefulness when you’re down to the last bit of the Nutella and want to make sure you get every last bit from the sides of the jar. Not much more useful than a normal knife until that point.

Like just enough to be a ball that fits in your palm. I had to put a little circular piece of greaseproof paper on top and bottom as well (makes it easier to get out, handle and package).
We need a Barry Uses a Too Small Bowl Supercut.
The egg’s head sticking out reminded me of the electric chair scene from The Green Mile lol.
I use a silicone spatula to get the last pit of peanutbutter/jam/nutella out of jars. Works well!
Colin looked like he had a splitting headache!
I'll get my coat.
Well all the King’s horses and all the King’s men might help with a headache I suppose, poor Humpty Dumpty however...
Japanese gadgets are the best. And so is the Seal reference. Always my personal fav 😆👍
The measuring cup scale is super clever for people who write recipes and want to convert them from cups to grams!
Hahaha! 😄 The look on your face when you tried the Carmel egg was priceless!😊
The Japanese egg gadget came with a free manga 👌🏼
That's not a knife
This is a nutella knife Mick Dundee
Yes!
Now that I read it back it sounds like a M&S advert 😂. Brilliant video! All the best from Ireland!
love love love the digital scale jug. i think thats the best gadget you've tried this far
Little tip for any instructions that are not in english.
Try the Google Lens app.
Its able to at least roughly translate whatever text youre scanning with your camera.
Seal was our first dance at my wedding. It was the only thing my husband was adamant about the whole wedding haha
16:36 I'd love to see Barry test some interchangeable mesh baking sieves in the future and see if they're easy to use.
I like the idea of them since they seem easier to store in a small kitchen, and you're hopefully less likely to spill over the edges. It sucks that they don't have a handle tho.
I use a silicone spatula for the last bit of Nutella and it literally gets it all out
16:20 - Wait, your petrol station doesn't let you press a button to set the amount _before_ you start filling?
Politely requesting more egg videos with Ed & Collin as cohosts! 😊🥚❤
I've never seen you make a soft boiled egg ever.
uh... that's not caramel on the egg in the japanese item... That's probably yakiniku sauce or ketchup
I understand the Seal references haha. Kiss From a Rose 🌹
I think the smaller circles on the macaroon mat are where you squirt the batter and they expand into the bigger circles 🙂
Me: Time to get up and get dressed
Barry: *comes out with new video *
Me: I’m in my pjs, that’s enough clothes
The Nutella knife would be really useful when the jar is almost empty :D
Lol I love the shot at the end where you can clearly see Barry forgot to grease the silicon mat and had some trouble getting the macarons up
19:43 Just using a wet finger will do, doesn't have to be saliva. Little bowl with water to dip the tip of your finger in will do. 😰
I just laughed so hard at Barry slowly realizing the nutella knife didn't make a big difference
That sauce for the egg is demi glaze a meat sauce
