You can make pineapple beer with the skin. With the lockdown in full effect here in South Africa, there is a ban on selling any alcohol country - wide, and so naturally recipes for homemade beer are spreading even more rapidly than the disease. One of the more popular ones is pineapple, my dad is onto his second batch.

In Mexico it’s called tepache. it’s basically fermented pineapple skin you put the skins in a big jar or or pot and fill it with water so the skins are fully covered and add sugar(lots of it) about a week later it’s done. sometimes less sometimes more depending on temperature where you live

If you're looking for something to do with pineapple skins, a meat tenderizer! Best to use the whole pineapple, but skins will get it done. Blend up the pineapple into a slurry, pour into a pan/bowl, submerge your meat of choice. Leave it for 45 minutes to an hour, but no longer or it'll just disintegrate the meat. Rinse the meat off and cook as desired. What happens is the enzymes in the pineapple/skin start breaking down the meat tenderizing it so well

Barry - you can wash the pineapple skin well, grind it up in a blender or food processor, and soak meat in it to tenderize the meat. The skin contains more bromelain than the flesh, so it's very effective. But obviously, it'll give a pineapple-y flavor, so only use it for meats that will be cooked with a sweet tropical glaze or sauce. Time will vary by meat cut, but you don't want to go as long as overnight. 30-45 minutes for normal meat, no more than a couple hours or the meat will start falling apart.

The green topped brush gadget is for oil to,grease your dishes before you put in food to be cooked. I have one of these and it is excellent for this purpose and always ready to use. By the way Barry, when you trim the pastry off the pie don't use scissors, hold the pie dish in your non-dominant hand balanced on thumb and fingertips and with your dominant hand slice round the edge with a knife, much simpler and neater.

If you add the liquid to the corn flour and stir to make a paste, instead of the other way round, you won't have those lumps. Never add corn flour (corn starch in the US) to hot liquids without first mixing a little water into the corn flour to make a paste - again - keeps those lumps away.

Hey barry, if you want lump-free starch to thicken something, just add the amount you need to a quarter cup of water, stir it around with your finger until it feels homogenous and add it to hot non-boiling syrup our sauce. Let it come to a bubble, reduce heat and let it simmer until the thickness you want.

Usually we use the knife to cut foods like pudding or jello to smaller size before serving. Try that 😊

We make a fermented Mexican pineapple drink called "Tepache" with our leftover pineapple skins and cores. It's super simple to make. We flavor it with cinnamon, and it's great with a little bit of rum, mezcal, or tequila.

Pineapple skin is used in the stock of Sweet and Sour Soup.
It can also be used to make potpourri or funky patterns on pie crusts!
    Missed opportunity, Baz!

I don’t know how you managed to find anything decent on Wish, it’s like AliExpress’s dodgy cousin 🤷🏼‍♂️

We actually have a spatula similar to the one you tested. We use it mostly for thicker things, though, like sandwiches and the like, where the extra leverage can be useful in keeping the sandwich from falling apart while flipping it.

You can make pineapple vinegar with the peel. Or better still, pineapple rind tea! It's delicious. Add some ginger, cloves, etc with some honey. There are a bunch of recipes online.

Tip on Corn Flour/Starch: ALWAYS add this to a cold mixture. Never hot or warm, as this activates it's "thickening" power. This is a different thickening method than a rue.
It will incorporate easily in a cold mixture without too many lumpy issues.
And yes, Kissed by a rose.. got it, and yep I'm even older than you. LOL
OMG feared for your fingers on that shaver and crinkle cutter knife. Does Mrs. Barry count your fingers when she gets home? LOL

    Pineapple skin.
Blend it up with the pineapple, marinate a steak for about 45 mins to an hour(any longer and it starts getting too chewy)., then wash off the pineapple blend before cooking the steak. The enzymes in the skin help break down the steak.
