    Evapo Rust is superb.
    Ultrasonic derusting is fantastic.
    TOGETHER, they are a game changer!

    The ultrasonic driver probably separated from the tank (or just failed completely) because you had a large metal item sitting *directly* on the bottom of the tank, which is a huge “no no”… that’s using why ‘some’ kind of basket is mandatory!

    You’ve probably already found this out, but the metal tank and the plastic top of the sonic cleaner are not sealed. So, when your fluid level is up to or above the plastic top (as it was in your case) the fluid gets inside the unit and fries the electronic components. The fluid level doesn’t need to go above the marked “max” line etched into the tub.

    You are wasting tons of evaporust. Fill the ultrasonic cleaner with hot water. Put parts to be cleaned in ziplock plastic freezer bags and add evaporust to the bag. You only need a fraction of what you are using by filling the tank wit evaporust. Good vid matey. I enjoyed watching.

      The tank is small as shit, what purpose would that serve? Everything he cleaned in the video wouldn't even fit in a bag. Now if it was like a 10L tank then yea okay I get it for small bolts and parts.

    • @johncoops6897
      @johncoops6897 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You don't "waste" the Evaporust anyway, since it's no thrown away after each batch. If each 100ml removes a certain amount of rust, then the more of it you use, the more parts can be cleaned and the longer you can use that batch.

  • @RedShiftedDollar

    Fill the ultrasonic cleaner with water then insert the container of tools plus evaporust in the water bath. The ultrasound will penetrate into the evaporust container to clean the parts and you don’t need to worry about cleaning or dumping the ultrasonic tub afterwards since it stays as clean water. This way there is no mess.

    Just got a HF ultrasonic cleaner but honestly the channel locks on the table next to the needlenose pliers caught my eye. I was cleaning up my stepdads shop and found an identical pair.

    I use a cheesecloth and strain the ultrasonic solution into a container. Great idea to mark the level to add water later.

    The "chisel item" is commonly referred to as a brick set. It is used to break a brick at a predetermined location to make it fit in the desired spot.

    • @seapy2398
      @seapy2398 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the UK these chisels are know as pitchers or pitching chisels. They originate from stonemasons tools for creating a 'pitched face' on quarried stone quickly and easily, the stonemasons version is much heavier and more robust than the examples here. I have both and use them quite frequently. They work by effectively bumping the waste material away from the desired face of the stone, making best use of the energy and shockwave from the tool to remove the excess material and create the desired shape.

    Preheat the fluid before operating the cleaner. It takes 10-15 minutes for the ultrasonic cleaner to get the fluid up to temp.

    Use clear silicone in the crack between the stainless bowl and plastic. When you dumped it, water probably went into the crack and straight onto the circuit board. #1 failure in this unit.

    The tips or working edge of Heat treated tools is what you probably observed. A heat treated edge will tend to be localized in a specific area and darker. I do a fair amount of evaporust restoration. Good vid. Here's something to try... After you take those tools outta the evaporust, wash with dish soap, dry, and hit all edges with a wire wheel.....then spray with Bosheild......it'll be huge difference than stopping after pulling out of the evaporust. I've done a video on this. Cheers. Another FYI..... it'll eat away the pre painted embossing that is used on tools like numbers, increment markings, ECT.

    Before you learn the hard lesson. Never place pieces being clean in direct contact with the bottom of the Ultra Sonic Cleaner. Will cause blow out of the tank. It is called cavitation.

    Great video, I think if you run a 3rd test with heated evaporust solution instead of the ultrasonic cleaner your result would be pretty simular, remember chemistry 101 for every ten degrees Celsius increase your chemical reaction will increase by 100%. The one thing about the ultrasonic cleaner is that it will move the reactant material away from the iron object making it work better. When you use evaporust without an ultrasonic cleaner you must remove the reactant material with a steel brush to make it work faster.

    This cheaper but takes longer De-rust
    100ml dist water
    5gm EDTA
    citric acid to buffer to 6.5
    Buncha drops of soap
    It did loosen some set screws that I'd thought I was going to need to drill. I think the soak with or without, ultrasonic, would do best in joints and threads.
    I used the homemade stuff in the ultrasonic. I'd only expect the VapoRust to work better.

    I like how you described how Evaporust works. Do you coat derusted tools with anything to stop rerusting before resale?

  • @mikesavad
    @mikesavad 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The biggest mistake I saw was that you let the metal touch each other, i'm pretty sure the bounce the metal to metal does is what broke that thing. I would imagine its like firing a gun in an echo chamber, your ears are the vibration things.
    Evaporust does a very good job, though it makes things sticky after so wash it off. It also dissolves spray paint.

    • @johncoops6897
      @johncoops6897 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It didn't break. It short-circuited because he slopped a heap of fluid down between the tank and the casing. The machine is simply full of (water-based) liquid with a ton of chemicals in it that make the liquid highly conductive.
      Open, wash, clean, dry, fixed.

    Try Suspending heavy items from a frame NOT FIXED TO THE UNIT so there is no contact with the sides or bottom of the cleaner or tank, contact with the tank supresses the ultrasonics and eventually destroy the unit, Heating helps heaps, You can even use Gasoline or many solvent's but be warned NEVER exceed !#"60centigrade"#! best to keep it around 50-55c or below the flash point of the solvents in a well ventilated area out side in the open is best,and stay away from fumes some could be extremely unhealthy, I NEVER use the baskets small items go in to plastic Peanut butter jars with degreser or what ever and just float the jars 90% submerged in plain water in the tank works fine and saves lots of otherwise wasted cleaning solvents. There re plenty of other tips doos and dont's on line, Cant wait for Laser cleaners to get a lot cheaper totally unbeatable for cleaning. Best Regard's

      Not keen on the idea of petrol with the potential for tiny sparks inside, under the tank or in the switches, big boom and serious burns territory. I use white (clear) vinegar in small plastic yoghurt pots stood in water in the tank to clean carburettor jets etc. White so you can see the muck coming off.
