Yeah, the jackets were worn by ABBA at an airport during their 1977 Australian tour. You can see a clip of them wearing them near the start of the 'I Still Have Faith In You' video.
I was there on the 30th of May and I have to say it was one of the best experiences I had in my entire life! I absolutely loved the live band too ,that moment of " does your mother know" was a brilliant act and a nice surprise. I will definitely go back soon. It's so complex it needs to be seen again. Thanks for your review. ❤️

I was there on 26th to see all 4 members of ABBA arrive and on 27th to see the show. All four members of the band were there on both nights, it was so wonderful to see the all together in public after sooooo long! I got some great pics as they got out of the taxi outside. On the 27th after Thank You For The Music, the audience turned towards where the group were sitting and cheered and applauded (I had tears rolling down my cheeks at that point). I was so lucky in that I actually got to see ABBA perform live back in 1979 at the famous Wembley Arena concert that was later released as a CD. These ABBA Voyage are just out of this world and I still cant believe that I wasnt seeing the group live on stage again, that is how realistic it is. Thanks for ALL your great ABBA reviews its great to see someone young get so much joy and pleasure from the best band EVER! Its my birthday tomorrow (19 June) and guess where Im going! I attended a live ABBA concert in Stafford, UK in 1979 and recently went to the ABBA Voyage concert. I thought that both concerts were superb but for very different understandable reasons. In 1979, being an ABBA fan was unfashionable and there was no difficulty in obtaining tickets for the concert. ABBA had fewer smash hits and so the playlist included music of very different styles from their albums. I remember the song `The Way Old Friends Do' in subdued light creating a lasting impression. The combination of the `ABBA sound and Ballads etc' music took the concert to a level that is unobtainable for other groups in my view. The 2022 musical concert concentrated on their big hits and musically that was less effective to my ear than when their full repertoire was performed. These songs were selected to sell records but there are many less commercial songs in their albums of similar merit. I thought that the avatars were convincing, the music was excellent and the visual effects astounding. I also thought that the concert could be improved by slight tweets in the show. In the period before the show started, I thought that the music was inappropriate as it did not get me into the right mood for the concert. A better alternative, which was used in 1979, was to play ABBA music that was not going to be included in the concert. I thought that the first two songs were of the wrong type and would be better included later in the concert as they are in concerts by Tribute Bands. What was required was a more upbeat first song which did not happen until the third song. It was only after this song that I got into appreciating the concert. In 1979, the volume of the music was such that audience participation could be clearly heard and that improved the music by giving it an extra tier of sound. In the 2022 show, the music was so loud that I could not hear the audience. I thought that the concert needed to be attended several times to fully appreciate what had been achieved. It was a wonderful experience but did not replicate the live performance that I attended in 1979 because of the different type of playlist.
I sadly didn't attend the 79 one only being 7 but went to Voyage this August. Massively agree on the first songs - I was a bit confused as I didn't recognise them and some of those around me looked the same, I was relieved when the 3rd one kicked in. Also agree about being able to hear the audience sing along. The Light show and the whole set up on of the stage and its movement to create different views was brilliant and I loved it - I would go again in a heart beat and I think I would definitely enjoy more knowing what to expect. One thing I really liked and should be put into all venues and shows music or other wise is the banning of phones / cameras it was so refreshing not to see a sea of screens and people just enjoying the experience x
Went to the show last night. It was such an overload to the senses that I found it difficult to articulate what I thought. So.... went again today and I was blown away. It is an absolute marvel to behold and a total joy . I think Abba and their associates own the arena and plan to dissemble and rebuild somewhere else, eventually. The site will eventually be used to build houses, I read.
Yes, ABBA built it, they're just leasing the land. It's on, and yes that's right. It will be going to build more housing once it's run is complete there. Other venue cities considered were, Las Vegas, Sydney, or New York and actually Las Vegas is the one that's more notable and winning the possible next site. Site mainly because that's what Vegas has become now.... Residencies ... Just makes sense to have ABBA there
It's a bloody brilliant show! I did feel conflicted too about the video musical interludes when the Abbatars vanish. But if the concept was to present a megastar global act in a landmark residency as if the band were actually really doing it then like all major acts like Madonna, Kylie, etc there are video interludes during their concerts for giving the artists a break and a costume change and set change so you could argue it adds a realness to the production. And also makes the Abbatars more special as not always present. The realness of the Abbatars is mind blowing!!!! We want ABBA!!!
Awesome review thank you.. Your Jacket looks similar to the jackets ABBA wore in 'ABBA The Movie' which was filmed in Australia in 1977. Qantas is an Australian airline and of course Polar is the name of ABBA's music label in Sweden.

I read somewhere that the pause you mentioned is to prevent the tech from overheating. That's why animated videos are used while the ABBAtars change their costumes. Changing outfits this way added a beautiful authenticity as it would happen at a real concert.
Good review! I agree, the parts without the ABBAtars didn't have quite the same energy. For me, it was the occasions where they suddenly disappeared (rather than walked into darkness) that took me out of the experience a little. And we didn't get badges! You're very lucky!
It was incrdible! (I didn't get the badge) - I think they had the videos of Voulez Vous and Eagle to give a break from the Avatars and leave the audience wanting more (which works better than anyone taking them for granted) - the videos were incredible too and if you listen to the pulled vids on here showing that little set the videos got as much of a massive audience cheer as the rest of the show. I hope they add Take a Chance on me and Money Money . . . .
I'd love to see it, I was lucky enough to see them live in Aus in 1977, 3rd row seats, I was only 11 y.o and cant remember a thing but luckily ABBA The Movie covered the concerts, the jacket you have is from 1977 Aus tour.
I never got a badge, but had a fantastic evening. A near perfect experience. The arena has only got planning permission for a couple of years as the site is earmarked for housing but thet can apply for an extension if they want to.
So glad to hear that you enjoyed the concert ABBA avatar. I have not been there myself, but I have seen videos of people dancing to the classic, epic ABBA songs and it looked like they really had a very good time. And that it is a very good vibration at the concert. My heart sings! So happy to see that young people have found ABBA and love them just as much as us that have grown up with them. Love from Lena
In the concert trailer you see Benny spinning his piano. Do you recall if this was included in the concert and if so, which song? It’s such a cool effect. I can’t wait to see this in person. Thanks for your review.
Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, James Brown, The Carpenters, Rush, Van Halen are bands I wish I could have seen live (well, I actually saw Rush, and Neil Peart stole the show with his percussion solo). The problem to solve for this new technology would be finding someone who can convincingly play drums for Rush and Led Zep, and lead guitar for Van Halen. You could use original recordings for Karen Carpenter and James Brown. Their Avatars would not be as realistic as ABBAtars. I think it would be something worth doing.
Thx for sharing I'm not a abbba fan but I now quite a few well quite a lot lol I'm goin December 2023 taking my sister so buddy how long is it on for please and I'd like to say thx for sharing and glad ya enjoyed it cheers 🍾🥂🍾
Hi Joe, awesome genuine review mate as always. The jackets are replicas of the ones ABBA wore in Australia on their legendary 1977 Australian tour. The girls had A’s on their backs and the Boys had B’s, so from behind they spelt ABBA. You can see footage of them actually wearing them in ABBA:The Movie which was filmed in Australia. Your friend did an amazing job recreating them. How would I purchase one for my collection ? I am an Australian fan and live in Australia. I’m guessing the badges are already gone. Thank you again for the review buddy. Take care if I don’t hear back.
The jackets with Qantas and the individual A B B A are based on the jackets they wore for the Australian leg of their 1977 tour. They can be seen wearing them during the opening few minutes of ABBA-The Movie and brief shots of roadies also wearing them during concert stage set up. There are no plans for the Arena to be handed on to other artists. If anything, it is to be dismantled & moved to another location. My guess, next stop, Berlin.
What you said about it echoes my complete thoughts when I first heard Lucas Productions decided to do this. It would be neat to go to a concert, see an opening act, then featured guests, then the main featured artist. A great item, I'm glad George decided to do this.
Those jackets were what abba were wearing on their arrival for their Australian tour in 1977. Qantas is the name of Australia's national airline. They also filmed parts of ABBA the movie on that tour.
Wow Joe, sounds like you had an awesome time! I was a bit dubious about this Voyage tour but after hearing your comments and review, I sure deffo wanna go at some point now! Been an ABBA fan all my life and it's what made me discover your channel when you did your review of "Don't Shut Me Down" Gotta say, you're looking hot too btw, new hair-style looking good :P Thanks for the awesome review buddy :)
There is a real ten piece band there, including three backing singers who perform throughout the concert. They somehow work with the avatars. The ABBA vocals are maybe a mixture of real live performances from the past and studio recordings made to sound as in a concert and these are interwoven with the band playing in the arena.. It's very cleverly done.
Hi Joe what a fantastic insight from you, and your views re your night at ABBA VOYAGE. Jackets were worn at Australia Airport which you see in ABBA THE MOVIE. Re the 2 badges may I have one lol I cannot go to see the avatars show because it would spoil all my memories from 1979, U see I went to see THE REAL ABBA LIVE IN CONCERT, at Wembley Arena London Saturday 10th November 1979, after the concert me and my boyfriend got invited backstage to ABBA's Rap Party, where we sat and drank champagne with all 4 members of ABBA, I sat in the middle with 2 members of ABBA on either side, I was 18 at the time and Imagine me I was on cloud 9 meeting my heroes fave pop group. I remember watching them win the eurovision song contest with my gran in 1974. So I fell in love with ABBA from age of 14
Great video, thanks. I have bought 18 dance floor tickets so my whole family can go in July. Most of the tickets say use "Entry A" but four of them say use "Entry B". My concern is that by being split up like this we will struggle to find each other again on the dance floor. Do you see that being a problem? Thanks in advance for your insight :)
i'd like to see the beatles' sgt pepper live with the people on the cover animated and the new york punk venue cbgb's recreated in some way i haven't seen this abba show yet i can't wait
I think it all can be summarised in your words ‘you really thought that Abba was actually there, which made the experience more better’. Who cares about reality and grammar?
Honestly this has been said in interviews as well, but with bands like Queen and The Beatles, This technology would not work nearly as well. Which performers that are no longer alive? That was the main core part of putting this together. Is the motion capture they did with the actual group and being that artist like Freddie Mercury are no longer alive? It would be impossible to capture his motions and it would be just more guessing if anything and visual assumptions. So it's nice as it sounds and definitely does sound nice. It would not work with any groups that have members that are no longer living now. Fleetwood Mac. They could do this very well , it's almost scary that Stevie nicks could go in there with a motion capture suit and just dance her heart out and it could be captured in avatar form , just like ABBA was
It seems as though you were standing in the back of the floor area. Was this on purpose or were there just a lot of people very early to get to the floor? Thanks
Were the vocal recordings from 'back in the day,' or were they more recent? In other words, were you listening to ABBA voices from the 70s and 80s, or from the 2010s? Just curious....
It was their voices from today. You could hear the distinction from the recorded album tracks and singles that we all know. It was their movements too. Just a younger image of them.
@@scented-leafpelargonium3366 I don't believe they re-recorded all of the vocals? I think it was either Bjorn or Benny (can't remember which) who said they would use original vocals but with a live band.
@@toby9999 well, maybe you are right if you have that inside information and are sure of it. I was at the concert (which I am assuming you were too by your knowledge), but I can only say from knowing all their recorded songs over the years that these were not the same vocals that I am so used to, as one could detect the minute differences in tone, timing etc., but they may have changed it since the opening night, I don't know. Possibly some of it was 'enhanced' a bit, I am not sure. I am not so good at being analytical and scrutinizing all the minutiae of it all with all the tech side of it etc. All I know is that it was a very enjoyable show and I am glad they did it. I guess there will always be some imperfections or observances that people will spot or debate which kinda dampens it for me. To me it seemed as if the live band were playing along to NEW recorded vocals with their avatars doing their very movements as they they were a 'bit slower' physically in some places, but I can still hear some of it in my head, and it's not off records.
Okay, I don't want to be the devil's advocate here, but I am not yet convinced to spend a lot of money on tickets + getting to London, etc. How is this better than a tribute band (and we know there are good ABBA tribute bands out there)? You talk a lot about the arena, the lights, etc., but from what I have seen in different videos of the concert this looks nothing like an ABBA live concert. Thank God, we KNOW what ABBA sound like live, we know their weaknesses and strengths, and to me, that's one of the things I love about them. They were not perfect. This concert looks way too polished for me. Perfect dance moves, perfect voices.....looks like something made for the social media generation. Not necessarily a bad thing, given the fact that it might attract young people to their music, but still, why would older guys go see this instead of Bjorn Again for example?
The sound quality was dreadful.. great visual experience but truly awful sound. Very little midrange so there was so much distortion when the girls sang.
@@scented-leafpelargonium3366 they were sat up in one of the dance booths, I saw them and also double checked with a member of staff who confirmed all four were in. Unlike the 26th they DIDNT appear onstage. At the end of Thank For The Music the audience turned toward them and cheered and applauded!
You seem like a likeable guy, and I myself LOVED the show! 🤩 What I don't get is WHY you had to disrespect ABBA and their team by filming during the show. That nearly ruined the whole experience for me, having morons around me taking their damn phones up. I didn't pay for a London trip ( I don't live in the UK ) and tickets to see a bunch of glaring phone screens in front of me... Plus phone footage looks like shit, so what's the point?? If you ever go again, please respect ABBA's wishes and the people around you more than that. Cheers!
You might be right about not filming but there are a lot of long time fans out there like me who've been ABBA fans since the early 70's but who'll never ever be able to attend the concert. We appreciate immensely the chance to see a few short clips. Obviously keep them short and of good quality out of respect and don't bug others while filming etc. Because sadly for most of us, that's probably all we'll ever get to see. Personally, I would find the dancing, shouting, arm waving and loud singing way more annoying than a few phones. And with respect, it's not your job to police the concert. Something else to consider... ABBA wouldn't have been able to create this concert without their long suffering fans. It wouldn't have been viable. The old bootleg stuff has played a huge role in keeping ABBA current. That's what kept me interested. That's why I've bought a bunch of ABBA's CDs and DVDs recently. Until the Voyage stuff, ABBA themselves had done very little over the past 40 years except repackage old stuff. I'm confident a lot of people will attend the concert because of the clips. It's effectively free advertising.
@@toby9999 I have never claimed to "police" the concert, I didn't tell people off in the arena for disrespecting the wishes of the entire ABBA Voyage team. Simply because I didn't want to ruin the experience any more than they already did for me. I was seated and there were no shouting or arm waving anywhere near me, the only distraction were the childish adults that probably got a kick out of being "naughty" by using their phones. I disagree that it's free advertising. In no way does the footage accurately describe what you will see at the show. It looks cheap, if anything it would turn people off. Of course their fanbase has made this possible, but does that justify acting like an immature child who can't take directions? The people being there are THERE for God's sake. No need to film. The ones who can't go... Sorry about that, you/they must live outside of Europe because otherwise a trip to London is not that expensive, but expensive enough to not want to be bothered at the show. I traveled from overseas and I'm no millionaire.😅 You could plan to go during winter, when flights/hotels are even cheaper. Anyway, I've given feedback to the Voyage team after receiving their survey, can't do more than that but I was curious to get a reply here from someone defending what I consider to be a completely stupid act - filming without permission.
I haven’t disrespected anyone. If you don’t like the video the simple answer to all this is just to not watch it again and get on with your life. Life’s too short my friend.
Which other artists would you want to see using avatars in the future ?
Duran Duran, Bonnie Tyler, A-ha, for example.
#ABBA are pioners

I hope that in the future see
#Beatles

Edith Piaf.

It happens during the second track, "Hole In Your Soul", and it is actually a nod to Benny's spinning Yamaha synth from the 79' tour.
We went there also last sunday, it was mindblowing. Magical 💖💖🙏🙏
i went 2 weeks ago , thought it was amazing, the transition into dancing queen was amazing
Londoners are so lucky to have the ABBA Arena❗ 🤩😍
I went to the premier on the 26th May. The show was absolutely mind blowing.
Which seats are the best position? Dancing floor or upper circle's? Thanks
The white jackets are kind of iconic. Very nice.
ABBA has been always thinking in future. Can you see how their logo can solve the problem of selfies twisting words?
Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, James Brown, The Carpenters, Rush, Van Halen are bands I wish I could have seen live (well, I actually saw Rush, and Neil Peart stole the show with his percussion solo). The problem to solve for this new technology would be finding someone who can convincingly play drums for Rush and Led Zep, and lead guitar for Van Halen. You could use original recordings for Karen Carpenter and James Brown. Their Avatars would not be as realistic as ABBAtars. I think it would be something worth doing.
I’m going next week to see abba voyage in London !!! I’m so excited 🥰🥰
the tops are what abba wore when they landed in australia for abba the movie and that 77 tour
Cool video, where did you get the jacket?😮
You lucky, lucky man :-)
I WANT THAT JACKET SO MUCH
Thank you for your great review! They should add Hasta Manana and Honey Honey. They are great oldies.
Totally jealous of the Australian Tour jackets x
Your Costumes look like the Outfits ABBA wear when they arrived in Sidney, Australia, for their huge tour in 1977
They are haha
Thx for sharing I'm not a abbba fan but I now quite a few well quite a lot lol I'm goin December 2023 taking my sister so buddy how long is it on for please and I'd like to say thx for sharing and glad ya enjoyed it cheers 🍾🥂🍾
It is a truly amazing experience
Omg, where did you bought the jacket? I want one 🤩🤩
I am even more exceited now. If that´s even possible Going there in august
Where could I buy the jacket please
Costumes from the Australian tour, when they get off the plane.
The costumes are the airline from the abba Australia Concerts
What you said about it echoes my complete thoughts when I first heard Lucas Productions decided to do this. It would be neat to go to a concert, see an opening act, then featured guests, then the main featured artist. A great item, I'm glad George decided to do this.
Really interesting. Your costumes are from Abba The Movie - when they are walking down the corridors of the airport.
Qantas jackets from Australian Tour 1977, they look great!
I couldn’t decide for certain whether the choir at the end were ‘real’ or ‘virtual’ !
Those jackets were what abba were wearing on their arrival for their Australian tour in 1977. Qantas is the name of Australia's national airline. They also filmed parts of ABBA the movie on that tour.
Hoping to go next year for my birthday. The jacket is from Abba The Movie 🙂
Great video. I’m going tonight!
Yooo I actually saw you guys there. Love the jackets.
cool jackets frim the Aussie tour
Hi
Went to show last night and didn’t get badge and I’m totally gutted - how do I get one ??
great review! I wanna go now!!!!
great review, love it!!!
Wow Joe, sounds like you had an awesome time! I was a bit dubious about this Voyage tour but after hearing your comments and review, I sure deffo wanna go at some point now! Been an ABBA fan all my life and it's what made me discover your channel when you did your review of "Don't Shut Me Down"
Gotta say, you're looking hot too btw, new hair-style looking good :P Thanks for the awesome review buddy :)
Is it suitable for children 10 year old?
May I ask where you got or how you made the ABBA jackets? I’ve been meaning to try and get made a Qantas (backwards B) jacket for years!
Wow I wish I could have been there too... Love them... And Anni-Frid's son went to the same school as me....
Great review going on the 16th of July.Quick question does it start at 6:00pm? Or does it have pre gigs playing? Have a thing going on before that
why no clips of the holograms?
Joe, could you possibly look at the camera of the pc and not the screen? You always seem to be looking elsewhere. Cheers, Great videos.
I quite like that the eye focus is beyond the camera. It gives a feeling of an interview and feels relaxed to me.
Great review Joe. I agree wholeheartedly with you.
Thanks for the review! Very honest!!
So it's not a live performance with real people but like a movie? How does it work?
There is a real ten piece band there, including three backing singers who perform throughout the concert. They somehow work with the avatars. The ABBA vocals are maybe a mixture of real live performances from the past and studio recordings made to sound as in a concert and these are interwoven with the band playing in the arena.. It's very cleverly done.
I agree with you Joe... how about a Kate Bush avatar live?
She's too up her own arse to agree to it...
Something tells me her intellect would never agree on something so trivial, soulless and deprived of anything she represents. No thanks.
Hi Joe what a fantastic insight from you, and your views
re your night at ABBA VOYAGE.
Jackets were worn at Australia Airport which you see in ABBA THE MOVIE.
Re the 2 badges may I have one lol
I cannot go to see the avatars show because it would spoil all my memories from 1979, U see I went to see THE REAL ABBA LIVE IN CONCERT, at Wembley Arena London Saturday 10th November 1979, after the concert me and my boyfriend got invited backstage to ABBA's Rap Party, where we sat and drank champagne with all 4 members of ABBA, I sat in the middle with 2 members of ABBA on either side,
I was 18 at the time and Imagine me I was on cloud 9 meeting my heroes fave pop group.
I remember watching them win the eurovision song contest with my gran in 1974.
So I fell in love with ABBA from age of 14
I sobbed watching it..i cried SO much
Great video, thanks.
No need to worry, once inside the auditorium everyone mixes...you'll have a ball !!!
@@marymchugh896 Thanks Mary!
The best show!!!!!!!!!
Did you attend on opening night, because I didn't receive a badge?
i'd like to see the beatles' sgt pepper live with the people on the cover animated
and the new york punk venue cbgb's recreated in some way
i haven't seen this abba show yet i can't wait
Queensland and Northern Territories Air Service.
why doesn't anyone film the abbatars? 😒
Not allowed
It boils down to what Bjorn said in an interview regarding the set list & songs that didn't make it..." Sometimes you have to kill the darling's" lol
Thank you sm for the great review I wanna know how many hours did it last💓🌟
I think it all can be summarised in your words ‘you really thought that Abba was actually there, which made the experience more better’.
Who cares about reality and grammar?
Freddie Mercury has to be the next one
No thanks
I didn’t get a badge!
@@scented-leafpelargonium3366 Thanks!
I want 1 please!
with lighting like that it be great to see a ( PINK FLOYD ) concert after all they was the pioneers of the light show along with the music !
australia re the clothes
It was just like a real concert..very,very emotional and powerful...don't get put off..get there!
Just say it, no need to be apologetic - if folks cannot distinguish reality from fiction, it is a problem!
The sound quality was dreadful.. great visual experience but truly awful sound. Very little midrange so there was so much distortion when the girls sang.
Australia for your jacket.
One questios: the real members of the band came out at the end???
The real abba were only there on the 26th for the launch before it opened for the general public the next day
Nope.
@@lyndontaylor4440 they were also there on the 27th, I know because I saw them!
@@markwdavis I was told only Bjorn & Benny were at the 27th and that the girls were not.
Bro,what the hell, why you didn’t put any 30sec video of them at least so people can see what is going on in livestream 🥴 🥴
had a lot of complaint froms people for showing footage, you cant win haha
i am sure other artists...groups are jealous now..
@@joegautrey_music I enjoyed your review. I would say you found a nice balance between showing nothing of the concert and showing too much.
Luvly jubbly 👍.
