  • The Bond Seamaster is a single-watch-worthy piece. If you want to buy one, which one should you get? I compare the Casino Royale 2220.80 to the 2018 ceramic wave dial version, the 210.30.42.20.03.001.
I also compare briefly the Planet Ocean 2201.50 (original 42mm 2500 caliber version).

2220.80 was my first ever Omega back in 2010. I've evolved through many different versions of the SMP since then. A 2221.80 sits on my bedside table now and it's great to be able to chuck it on anytime without setting. Absolutely love the dark blue of those old wave dials. But the SMP I settled on as my final perfect version is a 2006 Titanium (2232.80 on a 2231.80 bracelet). It's the third Ti SMP I've had (I love the metal), and I specifically hunted for the Bond bracelet for it. I've always loved the style (not so much the new ones, as you say). Thanks for the video.

Nice review. Nice collection. I have a 6.5in wrist, I got the 2222.80.(36mm) I would not sell it for all the money in the world. It could be the most perfect watch-Oh wait the Seamaster 300 Trilogy (Circa 2017) is. 😊

Very good comparison. The new SMP (white dial) is my first and only expensive watch. I really like it but it is more of a statement piece. People notice it on your wrist because it is big and flashy.

I owned a couple of the Seamaster divers back in the 2007 to 2010 era that had were 41mm. I also had the seamaster chrono 41.5mm. I wished Omega wouldn't have doubled their pricing because i would love to pick up the newer 42mm larger thicker seamaster. I like a larger diver. I have two higher end Seiko SLA newer releases 42.6mm cases that i recently purchased but the Seamaster was on my list. I just think Omega is about 20 percent overpriced above true market value. Im not picking on ❤Omega because Seiko is currently in the literal process and progression to do the exact same and in fact to directly compete with the price point of the Seamaster. Its about to happen in a matter of a few short months from now. Love your seamster on the right. The newer model. Man it looks fantastic!

I am actually considering to buy the ref 2531.80 preowned and it will be my only Omega watch. Modern Seamaster is cool but I prefer the neo-vintage one

Great video! I was debating between the 2220.80 and modern SMP300 w/ white dial on rubber strap. Decided on the 2220.80 due to the combination of the classic design w/ modern updates (co-axial movement and applied logo/indices) and the thinness. The watch is svelte and wears much better on my wrist compared to the modern version. Also, I was fortunate to get one w/ a 2500D movement.
I keep thinking about a modern version because of the ceramic bezel. I'm considering a SMPc with black dial (212.30.41.20.01.003).

Thank you very helpful video. I'm debating between the classic Bond seamaster (as I love a blue diver) and the Peter Blake variations.

Great review. You should do a video on the PO and since you have it I’d get rid of the modern. The Po is classic, more different than your casino and fulfills the tool diver role in style. I also had the nttd and that watch like the 60th anniversary have aluminum bezel inserts and with that thinner bezels and look way less bulky the the modern with its thick bezel.

I ended up selling the modern blue Seamaster a couple months after I recorded this. I think my next watch will be white dial. Also want a GMT and the Zulu time may be that for me.

@@menswearmusings maybe wait to see what Tudor has in store. The coke gmt is great and now a lot thinner, my guess is a new white face Blackbay pro at some poiny

Along with 2531.80 I have gmt version 2535.80, which is the same as this 2222.80 with addition of gmt hand, numbers and open back. The bezels although alu, I like them more than ceramic.

tried on 210.30.42.20.03.001 with metal strap
and also with rubber strap which i thought felt
a bit cheap and thought you would have got a
    deployment clasp with it .
    bought Breitling superocean 46 mm
    A17378E71C1 instead , love it ............

    2220.80 is 12mm and the new 2018 is 14mm.
    Big difference

    • @menswearmusings
      @menswearmusings  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

The original 2531.80 11.7mm. This 2220.80 is 12.7mm according to the site ablogtowatch. And the new 2018 is 13.6 according to Omega. Interesting how it grew about 1mm each generation. Having worn all three of those models, I find the 12.7mm of the 2220 unnoticeable on the wrist compared to the original.
The thicker 2018 is definitely noticeable, but the entire case got bigger too so that’s part of it too. And omega has changed in recent years how they do cases. They make the case back protrude less meaning the mid case is thicker. So the watch sits flatter on the wrist but looks taller.
Anyway. I sold the 2018, but may just buy it again I enjoyed the beautiful ceramic so much.

Don’t buy either watch. This watch is so over produced. Look at grey market- millions of these. Get a watch you can be proud off. This is one of the most pedestrian watches made.

There are only somewhat of 15-20 pieces of 2220.80 in chrono24 so they are rarer then you might think. Also because they where produced in a pretty short timeframe.
