- Pokemon Gen 3 Competitive Singles is my favourite format. A lot of you have been taking interest in the format recently, so I thought I'd do a livestream taking a look at some replays from new players. The Viewer "chrisdrums" submitted a replay featuring Regirock, and underrated Lead that can take on many common matchups, with unique advantages over fellow bulky Rock type Tyranitar.
Here's the team built by Callous:

I'm having a "Live Wo-Chien Reaction" to all of this great information.
Only Jim knows about the viability of Aerodactyl. All other sources of information are liars and are inaccurate.

Please read all of the below text. It's absolutely imperative.
Game Freak just blew all other online game development schools out of the water with this incredible new 2022 release. You're gonna need to get a game design degree online, and FAST, if you want to make a better game than this. Not even the best strategy games android reddit could hold a candle to this breathtaking Next generation competitive Pokemon experience.
Scream Tail is the Jigglypuff of our wildest dreams. It has been buffed with some higher statistics and the incredible ability, Protosynthesis. Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Pokemon better than their evolutions are few and far between. Chansey is one of them in some scenarios. Pokemon toys School could learn a lot from certain Pokemon designs, for example, Gholdengo and its iconic visual appeal. Maybe one day, I'll get to explain How I won the biggest Pokemon tournament, if I ever do that. For now, I haven't won the biggest tournament.

Wow Chess, didn’t know that! Thanks for telling me.

Sometimes on long walks I wonder about The Power of Gen 3 Regirock
I will link a helpful TH-cam video by popular Pokemon content creator Jimothy Cool. I believe this piece of media may help resolve some of the questions that may be on your mind.

Yes.
It's apparently one of the only Pokemon in gen 3 Ubers that can counter Kyogre, along with every other Pokemon in gen 3.

The Regis were the introduction to the "Thing + material" naming convention of the paradox pokemon. If they were released today, it would be called Rock Regi
Abe's Gaming.
Actually, the Paradox Pokemon are based on how actual scientists name actual real life species
It's just the real scientists use latin to sound smarter
@@baxterbruce9827erm they use it because latin is a dead language and therefore wont change meaning 🤓☝️
How to make regirock good in modern gens: give him salt cure and recover. Oh wait, that already exists, its called garganacl.
Not getting Recover when it literally rebuilds itself is WILD
I wonder if a different ability would have done anything for it. Like, what if it got Solid Rock instead of Sturdy for example?
don't forget complete status immunity
Registeel is my least favorite. The other two deserve better
Regirock saying to himself "im the bulkiest physically defensive rock type im the bulkiest physically defensive rock type" before seeing garganacl walk past and breaking down into tears
I remember a game I once played (gen 3 OU) where my opponent switched in Regirock against my +1 Snorlax. I decided to try something goofy with my Snorlax set and substituted in Earthquake instead of Rest for surprise factor. He switched in on a crit-EQ and survived, which left me flabbergasted at how bulky it was. It then used a Choice-Banded Superpower that OKHOed my Snorlax to stop a potential sweep. After that I decided to give Regirock a try and I’ve been loving it ever since. I’m relatively new to ADV OU but I’ve been having a blast exploring the tier.
Love the Regis, to bad ice is just a bad type defensively and my favourite "regigigiagagagaaaaaa eoeoeohouuuu hahahaaaaaaaaAAAaaAAaaa" has slow start as his only ability.
@havierbardem820Boltbeam with stab + explosion sounds good to me.
Regice is a great TWave spreader actually. Things that can take TWave usually do not want to take STAB Ice Beam or Explosion
The regis are all doomed in someway by the design
Rock & ice: poor defensive type
Steel: poor offensive stats
Gigas: worst ability in game
Draco: weird stat distribution
Eleki: poor coverage
I knew using regirock was a good idea in gen 3 ou
I'm trying this out on the ladder an hour after upload and I'm only running into Regirock leads.
The Jim Cool effect.
Regirock is one of my favorite Pokemon of all time. I don't really know how to describe it. The treasure hunt to find it as a kid hyped me up, and it just looks and feels like an unstoppable juggernaut. Thankfully, in Gen 3, it actually has the space to play like one!
“A mono rock typing is not a great fit on a defensive Pokémon”
*Garganacl moment*
what do you mean? garganacl is a water type :)
Quoting my comment on the last Regirock gameplay video:
Regirock needs a paradox form. Either Iron Boulder or Rolling Stone.
Rolling Stone
Cold Shoulder
Iron Maiden
@@marcoasturias8520Rolling Stone (Rock/Fire, as a rolling stone gathers no moss), Frosty Peaks (Ice/Ground) and Iron Maiden (Steel/Fairy) for Scarlet vs Iron Jet (Flying/Dragon, Tornadus-Therian), Iron Storm (Electric/Water, Thundurus-Therian) and Iron Pride (Ground/Fighting, Landorus-Therian) for Violet
Registeel’s future paradox form : Iron Steel
@@crapaudbiscornu7941 Iron Iron
Terrakions paradox form is iron boulder
Kind of weird that Regirock didn’t get sand stream in gen 3 but T-tar did. Regi is literally found in the desert whereas the T-tar line are mountain-based Pokémon
gotta keep that clear body going
They all had to have clear body.
@@gregorymirabella1423 Like Regigigas, Regilecki, and Regidrago?
It was just a gen3 case of an arbitrary ability they slapped on them, like the legendary birds and Mewtwo/Lugia/Ho-oh with pressure.
@@Fr0stySn00ze i meant just the original trinity of golems.
Imagine if Regirock had Sand Stream, Regice had Snow Warning, and Registeel had a renamed equivalent of Air Lock / Cloud Nine
On one hand, I'm very glad you made a video about Regirock, because it deserves more love. On the other hand, now more people will know what it is capable of and will play better against it...
Taking out Dugtrio & Aerodactyl in the first 3 turns with neither side getting spikes is a great start
The end screen variations in recent videos are rock-solid.
Here’s what I’d do to make the Gen 3 Regis usable:
-Regirock gets the ability Rock Absorb, which if it switches into Stealth Rock or is hit by a Rock-type move, heals it by 1/4 of its max HP instead of taking damage. It also gets the signature move Sandstone Smash, a physical Rock move that sets up sandstorm.
-Regice gets the ability Permafrost, which quarters damage from Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel. It also gets the signature move Subzero Storm, a special Ice move that sets up snow.
-Registeel gets the ability Tempered Steel, which increases its Sp. Def by 2 if hit by a Fire-type move instead of taking damage. It also gets the signature move Wolfram Whip, which has boosted priority.
-Slow Start is reworked so that Regigigas’ Attack and Speed are lowered by 2 stages each upon switch in, but it gets a free Dragon Dance (+1 Attack and Speed) at the end of every turn.
that actually looks interesting. especially regigigas.
I feel like the best way to fix slow start is to make it a transformation; whether you do it all at once or in stages, make it so that after burning through slow start, you can switch in and out without resetting it.
with close combat in the game it feels so weird seeing that having superpower is a huge advantage that sets a pokemon apart from others
It wasn't in the game though
in the modern games
yea close combat is not in adv
Superpower is prob the closest thing gen 3 has to draco meteor
I reached Top 5 in the World using Regirock. This is insane.

I love Reginald Rock
So true
You might as well have said "it's biggest competitor is Mike Tyson"
I love this series, you should definitely do a ton more on obscure niche pokemon and sets. Also the runescape music in the background, so nice.
I'm Hosting a HUGE Gen 3 OU Tournament. And you can sign up.

I like the idea of putting a team featuring the Pokémon the video is based on at the end, as well as the “in practice” gameplay aspect.
Just found this channel yesterday, love the content and severely underrated. The love for Gen 3 is something that I personally connect to as well.
The more videos I watch the more I think almost every single Pokémon works in Gen 3
Imagine if regirock got sand stream instead of tyranitar.
I feel like Solid Rock would have been a crazy good HA for Regirock.
The maplestory music adds a lot more than I thought it would
Awaken my masters! Now if only Registeel can make it.
It's also usable in Gen 3
@@jimothycool Awesome! I thought Registeel was only good in UU.
@@olympusgolemoflight7198 iirc it's UUBL, not OU. And it's one of the UUBL mons that's rather good in gen 3
I realy like when you focus on old pokemon and in the old gens meta games
Id love to see a complete type rebalance so any time can be both offensively and defensively viable
6:53 "it's your team, Jim"
Lol
I love these videos, I want to get into Gen. 3 competitive.
Wow, he’s powerful
The maplestory ost in the backround is truly epic Jimbo
i like to watch your videos of pokemon I'll never even use because your videos are very relaxing to listen to. You've replaced even False Swipe as my go to competitive pokemon ASMR channel.
Thank you Jim for the mineral-based content. Very nice.
Glad he gets much better in later gens with his future paradox form 'Iron Rock'.
Regirock is one of my favorites. Need to try this out, as he wasn't great on every meta I tried him.
now that's powerful
I love your oldgen content
Jim boutta talk about every one in 3 gen comp
I remember trying a rest sleep talk curse rock slide regirock back in the day, fun times

Beautiful RuneScape music in the background ❤
Thank you James cool for the video

Bro every time you put up a vid these exact pokemon show up in ladder lol. Just played a regi team lead and a team with gardevoir/linoone in the back
Wake up, honey! New Gen 3 video just dropped.

The money got different
Jim cool outted himself as a new Gen 3 player
I love my Regis
Someone give this man a recovery move
There should be rock-type healing move that heals more when under a sandstorm, kinda like Synthesis or Moonlight.
@@crapaudbiscornu7941 That would be great, and also thematically it would be cool if it also increased the users weight for heavy slamming purposes
@@crapaudbiscornu7941 There is a move like that but it is a ground move and exclusive to palosand
@@crapaudbiscornu7941Shore Up?
Recover makes sense on Regirock because its Pokedex entry states that Regirock can pick up rocks and add them to its own body as a form of repair
Our savior Regirock T-wave & paraflinch Iron Mugulis to the dead and after OHKO Great Neck with explosion just to make possible this video folks
Regirock destruction!
i commented before i knew i was featured. this is my greatest life achievement
It is the ÜN ÜN ÜN himself
As a ÜN ÜN ÜN i see this as a true ÜN ÜN ÜN
regirock is also very cool in dpp uu
registeel in UU is painful for it tbh, its just better for the metagame overall
@@shimogane2474 yeah but thats the normie pick
Sometimes it seems like damn near everything has a least a small niche in gen 3 ou
I love the regis
Let me tell you whats even scarier, terra typing regirock to fighting and using body press.
I trained a regirock like this:
192 HP EVS
64 attack EVS
255 def evs
The power of gen 3 Tropius.
I'm glad Regirock has power in gen3
I don't play competitive, but I theorycrafted the idea of a Regirock lead a while ago when I read the old Smogon article on good lead Pokemon and noticed that it beats the hell out of Salamence, Zapdos, Aero, Regice, Snorlax, Tauros, Jolteon, etc, especially with a choice band set. But then I thought about it more and realized that Metagross wins most of those matchups as well and concluded it wasn't worth it. And although I understand that nowadays Tyranitar and Skarmory are used as leads as well, it seems like Regirock would maul the former and be spikes fodder for the latter, again just like Metagross who can at least consider thunderpunch or something as a surprise.
You could’ve said it had a rocky career hahaha
I'm curious what he's trying to outspeed there with that speed investment on Regirock
Swampert most likely
4:30 Don't think I don't hear the RuneScape music in the background.
is cv nty regirock with a handbag better or is regular regirock better?
How about a video on Gen 3 Electabuzz?
I am being gaslit
I'm right.
Regirock was always my favorite of the three.
Regimugulis.
Ahh yes, my favorite game "Gen III" 0:35
The tragedy of rock types. Conceptually designed to be defensive, cursed to be only good at offense. All because generation 1 decided to have them be the first type fought, when most moves you would have would be resisted.
Ice-types: first time?
@@goGothitaLOL hey, at least with ice types theres a significant amount that are fast and offensive
Garg is the lord
I LOVE REGIROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you lobstermackingcheese
I wonder how regirock would perform if it got salt cure in future generation or heck even sand stream
sand stream would be an incredibly synergystic ability to cover its weaker SpD and make it a defensive tank. give it assault vest and take almost nothing!
Or just recover
I wish Empoleon got a buff:(
Wish I could play gen3 OU doubles on showdown lol
Sounds like you have a cold. Get well soon.
So, how is regirock with teratype options now?
You think Curse will be a good option for a defensive Regirock? A couple of Curses and no physical attacker will be able to break Regirock. This could be a good idea once the special attackers have been dealt with.
I think there a better Curse mons to build around. Snorlax is the big one and even Registel is better I think. Weakness to Water is damning
How does Registeel do in Gen 3 without good steel options?
Would Solid Rock save it?
We're all a little stupid bestie don't worry about it
regirock rocked so that garganacl could shamone
My favourite of the regis despite being kinda bad
do you have a video on why gen3 seems to only be played in singles, never doubles?
there's communities for Gen 3 Doubles OU and Orre Colosseum (Doubles format from Pokemon XD similar to VGC)
Gen 3 OU just happens to be a great singles format IMO. I think most doubles players prefer modern Gens
Is there something weird with your recording setup in this video? I swear the mic quality sounds lower in this one. Great video though!
Happy UN UN UN noises.
He's just a slightly worse cooler looking Metagross
