Monty mate, you have to watch "Chain Reaction " live. John has some of the best talent in his concerts and makes sure that he acknowledges them. " You're The Voice " is another live song he does brilliantly. Bloody hell, everything he does live is brilliant.
David Hirschfelder is playing the keytar. He was with John for a while and has now become a successful musical producer in the US. John has always had THE BEST musicians and they love to play for him. This is the concert where he performs Help both in its original form followed by his version. Check that out. If you love the guitar, check out Bret Garsed as the guitarist in John’s version of When the War is Over from the 2003 Last tour concert in Melbourne. John’s voice and passion for that incredible song are beautifully supported by Brett’s guitar playing.
I love John's Help version in this show - but the MSO version is also brilliant - Can't choose between the two! Also: some more of his songs - Listen to the Wind, Gethsemane, Love's in Need, I could go on forever... always LIVE performances - his interaction with his band and audience cannot be matched! Such a humble human with the voice of an angle - Oh, of course your have to listen to Angels with Lisa Edwards (longtime backup singer) pure heaven!
I've seen a lot of artists over the years, some of the greats, but no one delivers wave after wave of palpable energy like Farnsey. Playing to Win is on my driving playlist and I have to watch that I don't unconsciously speed up.
I was at this actual concert & it was BRILLIANT! Being there to see & hear John perform live was electric & mesmerising. His concerts are among the best I've attended, his stage presence has always been second to none. A true showman, phenomenal singer, generously acknowledged his band & back-up singers every time, & interacted with the audience with such joy & kindness & humour. Farnsey is the GOAT. ♥
Love that you’re loving John… he was simply awesome to experience live… I went to at least 7 different concert series of his when I was younger… brilliant!
Lead guitarist Jack Jones has a voice similar in structure to John. He was vocalist and guitarist for Southern Sons and is still touring as a solo artist. Check out "Hold me In Your Arms" bt Southern Sons or Jack jones. He is a supreme vocalist.
The guy playing the solo and most of the song is actually playing a portable keyboard known as a keytar, the actual lead guitarist is Jack Jones the lead guitarist and singer of the Aussie band SOUTHERN SONS and has a beautiful singing voice in his own right . Another commenter has already explained Farnsey's connection with the LITTLE RIVER BAND , so I suggest you check out John singing their hit song COOL CHANGE it will put you in a tranquil place and take any stress you have away .
Jack Jones does have a lovely voice. I feel it's also worth mentioning that he was 19 when this was filmed. Great talent. David Hirschfelder on the keytar now writes musical scores for movies. He did the Australian movie Shine, as well as Elizabeth and Sliding Doors just to name a few. Another awesome talent. 🥰
Jack cut his teeth in a little Melbourne tribute band called Hans Valen and then one of the best bands I’ve had the pleasure of seeing.. Andy Grant and the 3 Little Pigs.. now they were draw dropping..Virgil Donati on drums too… wow! EVH saw Jack’s interpretations of his solo’s and all he said was… and I quote “ fuck me!”
The one in the “white shirt” is from 1988/89 concert series with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra … Little bit of trivia about the MSO concert series (which was after the release of the “Age of Reason” album in 1988); John’s long-time keyboardist and musical collaborator, David Hirschfelder, actually wrote all the sheet music for every instrument in the Orchestra… mind blown!
This song is fire no matter what version, but the MSO really adds something special. And as already been mentioned, his cover of ACDC's Long Way To The Top is amazing. Thank you for sharing, g'day from Australia.
Agreed, everything at the mso concert was peak Farnesy! One exception of his catalogue is his performance in 2000 of Angels live with his backup singer Lisa Edwards. He cracks some goofy jokes about how hot she is, he definitely loved her legs haha. She is a hottie 🤷🏻♂️
@Westy IMHO his version of 'When the War is Over' from 'The Last Time' concert in 2003 is another performance of note. The emotion he put in to the third verse in particular, especially still holding his own in his 50s (at the time), was impressive. Plus Brett Garsed shredding his guitar as usual!
Love all Farnham songs. But Playing To Win. Wow. If you're ever feeling flat or having one of those days, best motivational song ever. Get in the car, hit the highway and play it loud!!
Written by John Farnham and Graeme Goble recorded in 1985 by The Little River Band with John as lead singer. John did a great version of this in 2011 in his Acoustic Chapel Sessions.

Couldnt catch a break..but with the help of Glenn Wheatley and joining LRB he really did start his Journey back to the top. And this time he really was Playing to Win.
In the end, The guys in The Little River Band used to gaff tap John’s microphone to the Mic stand and the mic stand to the stage so he couldn’t get out and move around because they thought he was taking too much attention from the rest of the band. Guitarist is Jack Jones from another Aussie band Southern Sons
If you want to do a reaction to John Farnhams main guitarist it was Brett Garsed most of the time. Have a listen to johns song “let me out” crazy vocals as well as a crazy solo 🙂

My opinion Little River Band stifled Johns talent.. they wanted the tame Glen Shorrock #2. John was too good for them.
You look and sound like you shoulda been in a cowboy movie. Probably playing the bad guy lol.
Do you know Tool?
Not the same concert
Adjust your sound. Bass way to hectic.
So, you only played Black Dog for Patreons? So if we can’t afford to pay you we don’t hear it. Way to get me not to Subscribe. John wouldn’t do that.
Jack Jones is the guitarist
I believe it was Brett Gasted?
