    As an electrician, I find that many people install these and don't take into consideration what their electric service can support. They gang 2, or 3 units ( to get good flow), and end up needing 2, or three 40A circuits to run them. I have had to tell them they did not have an extra 80, or 120 Amps of spare power available. Unless they want to increase their entire electric service which may cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. How much money will they save then?

    • @Pitbullempirek

      So even if you already had a electric hot water heater, this will pull much more power?

    • @hankkline7300
      @hankkline7300 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A normal 30, 40, or 50 gallon tank type water heater pulls 4.5 KW or 18.75 Amps at 240 Volts. A 9 KW tankless water heater pulls 37.5 Amps, and you usually need two or three of them to get good flow. Enough to permit someone to run a sink while someone is taking a shower. Depending on the temperature of the incoming water. It takes exactly the same amount of electric to heat a gallon of water whether it is tank, or tankless. The savings with a tankless comes from the water in the tank losing heat through the insulation. The tank type has more time to reach temperature so it doesn't have to heat it as fast as you use it, however it will lose some heat through the insulation over time, depending on how well it is insulated. A well insulated tank can keep the water hot for days once hot. I put a chart recorder on my tank type water heater, and found that in used 7 minutes worth of electricity from midnight to 7 AM with no water use, You decide if it is worth increasing your electrical service enough to make it pay. I don't believe tankless will save you 50% as some sellers claim

      @@hankkline7300 🤔 so, if I'm torn between "hybrid" water heater versus tankless, and I have a 1960's house (old wiring) .... I should walk away from tankless?

    • @hankkline7300
      @hankkline7300 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@vroor32 If you have a modern electric service, 150 or 200Amps, you will still have to run two or more heavy (40A) circuits to the tankless heater. If you have gas available, it is a better alternative. If you are all electric, you will probably have a 240V range, dryer, backup electric heat, A/C and possibly more, pool? If you have enough electric to run all of the above, and still have 64 amps left over, then you may be happy with the tankless heater. Don't forget that you have to service it at least yearly to clean the lime deposits. Tankless has many benefits, and some drawbacks. Make sure you are well informed before you buy. I don't think it would be cost efficient to increase your electric service for this item alone, unless you were going to increase it for other reasons.

    Marey is a really poor company. I installed a gas tankless model, used it twice and it broke. It took months to get a hold of customer service and they told me it was my fault and that it froze out from the photos I sent. I had the house winterized, with the water heater and all the plumbing drained. The heat was also on in the house so there's no way it was user error. They did not honor the warranty so I was out that money. I tried talking to Home Depot because I got it through them. No luck.

    I own a triplex with each unit having one (1) bedroom one (1) bath with separate fifty (50) gallon electric water heaters and was thinking about replacing them with a Ecosmart tankless water heater. How would I determine the best compatible tankless model..? 50G tank equals xxG tankless..? Thank you.

    • @acjensen-design
      @acjensen-design 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another factor to think about is what region your triplex is in. If the region is cold, then more energy is needed to heat the water. For example: water in Hawaii is likely warmer and thus easier to heat than water in Alaska. Check out any of the Ecosmart models on Amazon; they have charts that show how many things it can cover for different regions.
      Another major factor to consider is: how much amperage does your triplex have? To give an example, I wanted to add a tankless water heater to my home built in the 70s. I only had enough amperage available to do a very small model that could only provide enough for a single sink but definitely not a 2 bathroom house. You may want to ask an electrician for this one.
      Hope this helps.

    • @acjensen-design
      @acjensen-design 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As for gallons comparison, there isn’t really a true comparison since there are multiple factors at play: incoming water temperature, water flow capability, water flow needs (eg sink, shower, etc), etc.

      10 GPM if you live in a colder region, and 7 GPM if you live anywhere else. I like the really long non-answer before this though 😂

    The ecosmart 27 is junk. I have this for the last 5 years. 1 time exploded, then 2 elements, went bad. And once again, I was able to act before exploded my pipes, thanks to the piece of junk plastic that comes in the water flow sensor, it melts all the time. So, 25 dollars every year to fix that issue. So, no your review about Ecosmart is not true. Ah, and dont even get me started on the customer service from ecosmart. They should fix this water flow sensor and do an aluminum part i stead of plastic. This is a real review by a real usuer of this junk. Dont buy it. I was an idiot believing reviews like yours, when in fact you and many do not own this piece of garbage.

    Anything under an 18KW will not work for a Shower.
    And for the 18KW, or 24KW, if someone uses a Sink at the same time, the Shower likely fails (depends on incoming temp)
    And if a clothes washer turns on, the Shower fails. 18K is a risky size.
