  • I did a comparison of stock caliper as well as a heavier brake servo.
Stock servo with stock caliper, and a treal aluminum caliper.

The ESC has the internal BECs set at 6 volts I believe. So both brake and steering servos are only seeing 6v. of power from the ESC. I'm at work right now but will check my setup on my new rig and verify the ESCs bec setting, but I seem to remember finding my Maico bike was set to 6v.

This means the torque is the lowest, at best.

one of the biggest variables i have found is glazing either the rotor or pads.
do your self a quick little test and every 20 or so batterys use some 220 grit sand paper and make sure you sand from the outside of the rotor toward the axle, not in a circle. It makes a massive difference and seats the pads!!
as for the caliper might be just if someone would like the weight for traction or better consistency and clamping force.
    the vitavon caliper works excellent!
the only reason for a servo change is if you are going hv for stearing, then might as well do both.

I have some springs I bought for the cable between the brake lever and caliper that will act as a helper return spring I'll bring with me to the Feb race. Could toss a couple in the mailbox if you wanted a few to try.

I see ink pen springs work too.

Generally these are a go too in RC and yes, should work well. But on a otck servo, both springs maybe too much and burn them out.
The stock servo only has 35 in/oz of torque at 4.8v and 42 @ 6v. May see 50ish in oz at 7.2v but will lilkely burn out at that voltage. So I would remove the stock spring in lieu of a pen spring or similar on the stock brake servo.

My thoughts as well. I have not added springs for that reason. But have seen it done. Dirt is the problem.

Are the brake pads interchangeable? Have you tested different brake pads materials?
