LOSI ProMoto MX Vitavon Brake Caliper Upgade? It Looks GOOD!

  • I broke the front brake caliper on my Losi PRomoto MX the first day I had it. I ordered several replacements from Tower Hobbies, but when I saw the Vitavon Brake, I had to try it. I am not somebody that throws aluminum parts on my RC's in most situtations, but in this case, it may just be a quality upgrade. Lets take a look at it!

    I think this is a must have. Bike has so much braking power now and works so smoothly compared to the stock plastic calipers.

      I agree 👍 . I bumped up my rear braking thru the esc to try to match the front and hope to get some controlled slides. I hope to test it later today. Thanks for commenting!

    There is good news and bad news with the VITAVON front brake caliper. The good news is that it does look and feel amazing in hand . The bad news is it doesn't work . It doesn't allow the brake rotor to float. Because the disc pads are way too thick. When I took mine apart, I put the two pads together and used my digital caliper to measure the thickness. The VITAVON pads are 6.07 mm. The stock losi pads brand new are 5.06 mm. That's 1.01 mm too much . So I put the stock losi pads into my VITAVON aluminum caliper, and it works perfectly. I'm going to go ahead and sand down the VITAVON pads to fit . I notified Ryan over at VITAVON that there was this issue with mine . Because I don't think everyone is going to like sanding down their new pads . I asked Ryan if there were any complaints other than my own. He has not responded to the question yet . He said he would get to my emails next week . I also mentioned to VITAVON that they needed to fix the issues and send the people who have already purchased the caliper . To send them the right thickness pads . I'm sure they will want to make it right . Also, it's not on bearings like you were wondering. There are two small tits that the piston screw uses to move forward and push against the pad . I would very much appreciate you sharing your experience, sir. Maybe it was just mine that had the issue because I had the very first one . Ryan had notified me the moment it was available. I honestly hope that mine is the only one that has this issue. Please let me know how you feel about my comment, sir. My intention is to help . Stay cool 😎

      Thanks so much for the well written comment! Yes, I'm also having issues with tbe pads being too thick. On the livestream last night i swapped them with the stock pads to make it fir better. I agree,nobody wants to sand down the pads. I've never had a vitavon before,so I'm new to the customer service, and haven't contacted anyone about the problem. If u know who to speak with, let me know,or tell them directly for me if you've got inside contacts. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

      @RC_Car_Guy Good morning, sir. I received an email from Ryan at VITAVON. They are aware of the issue with the pads for the caliper being too thick . And asked me if I wanted them to send me a new caliper. I told Ryan that they needed to write to everyone who has purchased their caliper , to send out an apology and letting the consumers that they apologize for the inconvenience and that they will send new pads out quickly. I trust they will do so . I told him we all make honest mistakes. And that we are all willing to forgive as long as we are made whole . We are quick to forgive and forget when treated with respect. I'm informing you first , let me know, please, if they notify you . Because I took a picture of your comment to me . And sent it to Ryan . So he could tell that mine was not the only one with the issue. I honestly hope they do the right thing . Because their products are very nice . I would hate to see their reputation damaged over something so easily resolved.
      Stay cool 😎

      @RC_Car_Guy Good afternoon, sir . I found out this morning more information about the VITAVON caliper pads . The correct pads, according to Ryan, will be available in a week . So I guess they are going to deal with each individual case as they complain. Instead of issuing an apology to everyone who purchased the caliper. And letting them all know that they will be receiving new pads that actually fit so people can enjoy their new caliper. I'm not sure if you have any information that I don't have . I just wanted to let you and your subscribers know what's up with the caliper issue.
      Stay cool 😎

    Just got an email from Vitavon 5 minutes ago on these as I am about to order a set. They didnt change the pads, the re-tooled the caliper itself to use the thicker pad and make it actuate better. This was the message when I asked if they changed the pads yet: "We already upgrade the caliper after the first batch, so the current stock is new which we CNC cut some material in the point area, the pad thickness not change, no worry about the using. thanks"

    Ive been using Vitavon for years. Crazy high quality. Ultimately the one down fall is in rc weight is your enemy. Too much Vitavon and that becomes an issue potentially.
    I didn't get to see the live. Do you recall the weight difference?

    • @RC_Car_Guy
      @RC_Car_Guy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for the awesome input! I think I remember the weight was about 17.5 grams for the stock one, and the vitavon was 10 grams heavier. I'll try to do another comparison on the livestream tonight.

      @@RC_Car_Guy I'm going to weigh them both in the next hour or so . I will put my results in another comment. Stay cool 😎

      The stock losi brake caliper weight is 18.5 grams. The VITAVON caliper weight is 25.9 grams, so the additional weight is 7.4 grams . But it is unsprung weight. So it doesn't affect the suspension. Same with the hubs and wheels .

    • @mark675
      @mark675 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @think2cre81 it's actually the other way around, unsprung weight DOES affect the suspension

    Hmm, I just installed one and am not impressed, the mounting location is thinner than the stock unit which makes the screws poke out the back very close to the rotor, when tightened down, it forces the rotor to the inside of the wheel all the time so it defeats the purpose of a floating rotor, plus if it did "float", it looks like it would make contact with the caliper screws, I also had to file the side of the cable end bell or button, whatever you call it because it would bottom out not allowing the cable to be routed through the arm properly, I'll have to source some washers to put between the caliper and mounting location to get it properly installed.

      I actually had an issue with the fitment,had to have it replaced once i installed it. The first one would not work. But i don't remember if i had a video about that issue or if i just talked about it on a live stream. I'll check mine out when i get home to see how far the screws go in.

      That would be cool but don't go thru a lot of trouble, I can get this one sorted but it'll take those washers I had mentioned, they'll have to have a pretty small outside diameter to fit so it might be a little bit of a challenge, when I had it installed however, it stopped the wheel with more force than the stock unit.
