Yes, the design and materials have improved somewhat, but the costs of manufacturing have actually gone down. You are paying $8,000 for the "feeling" of owning a Rolex, and $2,000 for the watch itself. That, to me, makes the Rolex as fake as a replica. If you want to spend money on an intangible like that, better to spend $400 and get a really pretty good watch then spend $10k on a really good watch plus 80% elitist bullshit.

I got my full $7250 back after a little bit of a go around with E-bay, but no problems. I would have never done that deal without the money back E-bay guarantee. I’ve seen one of these and they have become scary close . I compared to my gen and really found the markings and general appearance as too close to call from appearance alone with the naked eye . With a loop of course there are tell tales. However the Bezel action and winding action are to me the biggest giveaways. Rolex bezels tends to be very specific and buttery smooth . Rep bezel was fine but not of the same standard . Gritty winding of rep again raises the alarm . One may say that in a piece that’s a few years old the bezel on a gen can lose a little tolerance and of course it’s possible if a watch needs service the winding can be a little gritty so it’s not definitively signs of a rep .but would certainly raise very real doubts in my mind ... . Advice is don’t buy privately unless it is appraised before purchase .. with regards buying reps I suppose it depends whether you want a very good watch or something that resembles a very good watch and may well stop functioning at any time with no right to recourse ..l

He swapped out the real for a fake, dude. You can tell without even opening the Pelagos. On a real Pelagos, the small metal of the pin that holds the hands together in the center shows. In the fake, it does not. I used to own a real Pelagos - it's the easiest way to tell. In the picture you show @1:26 shows the metal rivet showing in hands. In the comparison with real and fake, the fake doesn't show that metal rivet.
@@horologyproject For Rolexes, doesn't matter the model... There's a similar tell. The fakes have an unpolished, roughly finished rivet cap. The real ones have a smooth polished cap that looks like it's one piece with the hands. You can tell in 2 seconds that way.
Took me 1 sec to see that it’s a fake. Where it says Swiss made at the bottom of the dial it should have a crown separating the 2 words. Crazy they go through that level of detail and miss something so simple. Also the engraved lettering around the edge each lettering should be exactly in line with each second. If any are slightly off then it’s a fake. That’s the 2 tell tale signs of a fake Rolex. Hope this is helpful to peeps

It's a clone movement of the ETA 2824. The genuine Rolex has an in-house 3135. Replica companies also make a clone of that movement, so it's even harder to tell when that is done.

I found out it was a fake myself. They pretty much accepted my claim without any hesitation. I simply had to return it after the seller agreed to accept return

They did dispute the claim, but eBay almost always sides on the buyer. Now eBay has an authenticity programs, so there is more security with them.
I just ordered a Sub two tone ceramic bezel from E-bay. The seller is kind of sketchy but I have the security of E-bay`s buyer protection program. I wouldn`t have touched this deal without that. How did it work out. eBay just launched an authenticity program. Did you go through that? I purchased an Rolex Explorer 114270 that was authenticated by ebays program. It was nice to have the extra security.
@@horologyproject this one didn`t have the authenticity thing. Turns out the guy got a shipping label but it never showed up on tracking. I got my full $7250 back after a little bit of a go around with E-bay, but no problems. I would have never done that deal without the money back E-bay guarantee. I have since bought an Omega Seamaster from an online dealer for $1300 under suggested retail and love it.

I’ve seen one of these and they have become scary close . I compared to my gen and really found the markings and general appearance as too close to call from appearance alone with the naked eye . With a loop of course there are tell tales. However the Bezel action and winding action are to me the biggest giveaways. Rolex bezels tends to be very specific and buttery smooth . Rep bezel was fine but not of the same standard . Gritty winding of rep again raises the alarm . One may say that in a piece that’s a few years old the bezel on a gen can lose a little tolerance and of course it’s possible if a watch needs service the winding can be a little gritty so it’s not definitively signs of a rep .but would certainly raise very real doubts in my mind ... . Advice is don’t buy privately unless it is appraised before purchase .. with regards buying reps I suppose it depends whether you want a very good watch or something that resembles a very good watch and may well stop functioning at any time with no right to recourse ..l
Agreed. I think it’s so important to verify the watch before purchasing. The reps are incredible. And while I don’t have a problem with the rep community, there are some people who take reps and sell them as gens.

He swapped out the real for a fake, dude. You can tell without even opening the Pelagos. On a real Pelagos, the small metal of the pin that holds the hands together in the center shows. In the fake, it does not. I used to own a real Pelagos - it's the easiest way to tell. In the picture you show @1:26 shows the metal rivet showing in hands. In the comparison with real and fake, the fake doesn't show that metal rivet.

@@horologyproject For Rolexes, doesn't matter the model... There's a similar tell. The fakes have an unpolished, roughly finished rivet cap. The real ones have a smooth polished cap that looks like it's one piece with the hands. You can tell in 2 seconds that way.
Took me 1 sec to see that it’s a fake. Where it says Swiss made at the bottom of the dial it should have a crown separating the 2 words. Crazy they go through that level of detail and miss something so simple. Also the engraved lettering around the edge each lettering should be exactly in line with each second. If any are slightly off then it’s a fake. That’s the 2 tell tale signs of a fake Rolex. Hope this is helpful to peeps

It's a clone movement of the ETA 2824. The genuine Rolex has an in-house 3135. Replica companies also make a clone of that movement, so it's even harder to tell when that is done.
