    “OCD is gonna move the goal post” that’s good stuff. I’ve never confessed ever and honestly, the urge to do it is insane. Especially to my family. I’m trying to figure out ways to take the power back from OCD and this helps. Thank you

    I'd like to talk to a fellow ocd sufferer about this type of stuff, without seeking reassurance of course. This is exactly how I've been the past few years... It's way beyond intrusive thoughts or themes. Purely real event, engulfed in the past, fear of rejection. I know in the real world we've all done wrong and even the people we look up to or think are higher up than us have said, done, think bad things. That's life. People without ocd can fathom that. Obviously we know but can't deal with it. I'm blabbering on here. Just like to say thanks for yet another helpful video, I've spent the first few years of my 20s like this and it's petrifying. I'd rather lose a limb than spend another wasted day like this. If anyone can/wants to talk please feel free.

      You’ve got this Jaeden! I was stuck with real event false memory ocd for years and confessed 24/7. Breaking down beliefs and adopting unconditional acceptance is key. Also, do all you can to resist the urge to confess no matter how uncomfortable that feels.

      You’re welcome Louise 😊 I know the confession struggle all too well - it steals us of so much precious time. One day, with hard work & persistence breaking down your IB’s, you will get there! 💪🏻

    Thank you so much. This has made me feel so heard and like I’m not alone. I was doubting whether I struggled with OCD but this has really confirmed a lot for me, I think I’ll speak to my doctor

    This was great! Have the urge to confess constantly even though I've done nothing wrong. I feel better knowing confession solves nothing!

    I wish my wife would listen to my tough love approach when I'm tired of her daily confession 😂 but instead her ROCD turns it around and all of a sudden I'm the problem for not listening to her or not talking about whatever anxiety she's having.

    Thanks for this Sam,just what i needed today, im just about to start councilling,(on monday) and my OCD has gone through the roof with something that i did 43 years ago (if it wasnt so terrifying it would be funny right)my question is i feel such shame that having to tell the councilor this its making it much worse, also dont want to go down the cofession route with them, am i ok in saying i have real event OCD without going into detailas my OCD is telling me thats a cop out?
    Anyway be great if you could reply
    Thanks
    M

      Hi Mike. Thanks for your comment. OCD can latch to anything in the past, whether it be yesterday, 1 year ago, or 43 years ago! There’s no limit. OCD will always be scouring the past finding something that it can keep you stuck in a guilt/rumination cycle. My advice would be to make sure, whoever you’re speaking to, they fully understand OCD and doesn’t tell you to delve into the past trying to figure out exactly what happened as OCD will keep moving the goalposts. Remember, it’s our perspectives & beliefs in the NOW keeping us stuck, and not something that happened 43 years ago.

    Thanks for this video! I have a question about confession. With my rOCD I think I’ve improved when it comes to confessing my thoughts and feelings to my partner as well as friends and family but with that comes sadness and isolation sometimes, I’ve recently had the urge to seek therapy and have someone objective and professional to speak to but I’m still mindful of it being fuelled by an urge to confess everything. Is therapy a bad idea? Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

    • @aguywhohikes1271
      @aguywhohikes1271 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Katie - I wouldn't say working with someone is necessarily a bad idea, but we obviously want to have an awareness of why we may be desperately seeking it. Same goes if we are avoiding it, etc. No easy answer to this unfortunately, but yes - reassurance and confession can come in other hidden ways outside of just asking / talking about it, great catch!

  • @Akas410

    Sam did you ever repeat the same confession over and over again?

    • @samwilliams837
      @samwilliams837 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, yep I did this a lot. I used to re-confess as I didn’t think I explained it correctly or I would think the person I’m confessing to didn’t understand properly. I’d be chasing certainty/relief & would keep confessing/seeking reassurance until I got that. I wasted so much time in the confession cycle…

    • @Akas410
      @Akas410 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@samwilliams837 Exactly the same for me with the addition that sometimes I would not recall that I confessed or unsure if I even confessed so I would confess again and again. It's really impacted my Mum who I 've been seeking reassuarance from.

    • @samwilliams837
      @samwilliams837 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep I can fully relate to that. Confession/reassurance seeking really needs to stop, it’s a never ending loop & relief won’t be found that way
