People must understand that aviation in Africa doesn't have the best demand, this is usually the reasoning of failing airlines in Africa, however, bad management does have something to do with it. Take South African Airways for example, they stopped operating in May 2020 due to bad management, people often mistake this for the pandemic but South Africa has a lot of domestic travel demand (even during the pandemic) which is why only one domestic airline in SA closed down (out of the main four domestic airlines there are in the country) but a new start-up appeared. SAA got back up on its feet in April 2021 and now flies domestic and regional routes (SADC region), they also fly to Nigeria in their a330's and a340's
Reminds me of something - we were on a jetBlue A320 to JFK and when we were taxiing to our gate I saw an Eastern airlines A300 parked at the gate next door… Eastern Airlines shut down around 35 years ago…
While international carriers fail in Africa, local budget carriers succeed due to demand. For these carriers to succeed, they have operate regional turboprops like the dash 8. Jets are simply to expensive. Look at Jambojet as an example
