Bob the mini dishwasher stole my heart (and washed the dishes after)

  • This adorable appliance sits on your counter or under the sink and can wash the dishes in 20 minutes flat. Starting at $299, Bob has a window so you can watch the dishes getting cleaned and it has an integrated water tank, so no hookup required.

The whole point of a dishwasher (besides not wanting to do the dishes by hand) is that it washes the dishes at temperatures your hands couldn't cope with. It also uses tablet/soap cleaner that's not suitable for contact with your skin. When I wash dishes with my Miele dishwasher the plates are super clean and the cutlery is unbelievably shiny. You can really tell the difference. Normally I hand wash but every now and then I'll use the dishwasher for a deeper clean.

Yeah imagine using a whole tablet that is meant for full size dishwashers on this tiny thing with 8 pieces max inside. That's an expensive wash.

You could buy a proper sized one for those prices, but if you've not got space for one it's a option, it depends on how much you hate doing dishes I guess.

I agree with your point that such device is a bit useless. I live in an apartment with 30sqm indoor space in Germany, so I don't have a kitchen but a kitchenette in the hallway.
Half a year ago, I was thinking about getting a counter top dishwasher like Bob or Siemens but after thinking about it, I still end up with 45cm undercabinet Miele dishwasher (700EURO incl. additional plumbing) and swapping out refrigerator.
Here is my reason: room space and washing flexibility.
Room Space: I have 1.5m kitchenette so countertop dishwasher takes up valuable countertop space
Washing Flexibility: I can wash anything with Miele. Every time I fitted one slow cooking pot, one 26cm pasta pot and one 26cm wok in it and 3 days of dirty dishes and glasses. If I host a party/dinner, I can invite up to 8 people over for dinner with the dishwasher able to handle all the washing.
And the swapped out refrigerator become a countertop for instant heater, slow-cooker, blender and large utensil holder.

There seem to be a lot of people that don't think this is useful. Yes, you can wash them by hand quickly but what ever time you think whether it's 10 mins, or 5mins that doesn't mean you use less water for every 2 mins we leave the sink running we waste about 4 gallons this thing uses 3.8L which is about 1.004 gallons for one cycle. and Why would you want to wash them by hand when you don't have to. You could be doing other things, making bob pretty convenient. If you have a couple dishes to wash, and want to save on your water bill, while being environmentally conscious. Then Bob would probably be a smart purchase.

I just measured, and it won't fit under my cabinets. I would have to place it right beside the sink like Lexy ended up doing. Maybe European cabinets have more clearance than in the USA? It seems like this could be a problem for them entering the USA market.

Bob really got me excited until I found out its not as portable as you make it sound. It runs off of 220volts so if you don’t have any 220v outlets everywhere in your kitchen then you’ll be paying an electrician to install one which is not cheap unless your handy.

Maybe you are only reading that about in Australia because everything in Australia is 220v

      The US version is 110V

The European version is 220v since that's the standard there, the one for the US market will be 120v

I nearly bought one, however bob being a French company wanted me to pay import taxes to UK separately (Due to Brexit) and had to wait 6 weeks.
Got a Comfee next day from Amazon, at a cheaper price.

I have considered this device. But the need to buy those special cartridges makes it to expensive. Bought a discount brand similar mini dishwasher that uses regular tablets. Low cost machine and use. Works good.

@@NoZenith I have the 'Medion MD 37004'. I bought it for €239. It is from the ALDI group. I have it just one year and use it daily. - This seems to be a generic no name device that is sold under the brandlabel of several brands. Look at the design and the buttons on the front panel to identify it. When looking for mini dishwashers I have found my device several times under different brands. - Golden tip: to fill it up you have to pour carefully and slowly. That is very fast very annoying. Put on top of the filling hole a receptacle, like from a microwave dinner, and make a hole in the bottom. Put that on top of it over the hole. You now can pour in the water fast in the receptacle and let it slowly fill up the tank.

@@WalterVermeir thank you :-) all the research I'm doing and I'm seeing the same thing you're talking about in all sorts of brand names that are available in the US. It looks like a few Chinese models, some of which are coming out of the same facilities because they seem to use the same switches even on different sized units, are relabeled for several different International companies.
Have you tried leaving the door open while you're pouring water in? Interview from a guy from UK on The Bob, he said he leaves the door open and showed the difference on how fast you can pour water in and it is significant. Going to look up your dishwasher right now :-) thank you

@@WalterVermeir I'm coming back to laugh. I was literally just looking at this dishwasher from a different company minutes ago. Farberware here in the states also has a model that has very similar design and I'm getting really sick of seeing that water pitcher 😆. My only complaint on this design and what are the reasons I am shopping ones like Bob is they are overall deeper from front to back and a little bit taller so you can put a cutting board or a 12-inch Skillet in them. These smaller units don't save you much counter space but don't even allowed to put my 12-inch dinner plates in 🥲

    • @WalterVermeir
      @WalterVermeir 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@NoZenith Yes, indeed. The dimensions of the BOB is better. Especially the height. Was the core reason to maybe go for the BOB. My device only takes very basic thin size plates. More then one tick plate is a problem. One that is bit higher only works by putting it crooked. I do put stuff that is actually to big just on top of it. It mostly gets cleaned that way. My incarnation of the dishwasher came with the pitcher. Not all included that. Very usefully accessory . I have filled it up with the door open. Never noticed a difference. I use 1/2 of a standard dishwasher tablet. That gives a good result.
