The mono headlight on the 2021 is actually a hell of a lot better than the old headlights at night. The old headlight style on the MTO9 was basically useless at night but the mono headlight on the 2021 actually does a pretty good job of lighting up the road in the dark.
One of your best videos. I just wish that more motorcycle content contributors would make side by side model comparisons. This was very informative. And useful.
Thanks for showing that! I did like the 2020 headlights way more but the 2021 really growing on me. I also feel like the 2021 becomes a bit cheaper and less work to get all the turn signals LED and just right. I'm just going to get a 2021 or 2022 by the time I'm ready to buy.
I can't wait to get my 2021.. I've been on a waiting list for a while now and no dealerships in a 500 mile radius have gotten one in yet.. so frustrating! Thanks for the comparison though! Definitely glad I waited for the 2021.
There will always be a warm place in my heart for Yamaha. As a kid growing up in Fort Lauderdale, I spent my entire youth riding Yamaha 125 Enduro dirt bikes. So much fun. Today at 58, It's only Harley Road Kings for me. Lol.
I have a 2020 sp and I wish the tank was wider so I could grip easier, I love the 2021 but the headlight is a no from me , I have seen a lot of the frames snapped in multiple places inc headstock from 20 mph crashes, they have to prove themselves in my eyes
I recently watched a 2021MT09 get run on the Dino and it had 112 hp at the wheel. I think Yamaha is being conservative with their hp numbers. If it’s doing 112whp it’s probably more like 124~125hp. That new engine even gets better gas mileage. I don’t think a lot of people realize how much this bike has been improved and almost every aspect. Yamaha knocked it out of the park with the 2021 MT09. I’ve got a 2018MT09 and I want to upgrade to the SP or the MT10 so I’m going to wait and see if they redesign the 2022 MT10 and if they don’t I’ll definitely be trading up for a 2021 MT09-SP
I almost got a mt09 tracer here. To travel and stuff, but when I found out the consum of it, it is not a touring bike, but a higher racing machine ... hehehe
It'd be great if somebody could compare the amount of light coming from the 4 projectors headlight of the old one with the single projector headlight of the new one. Which one is better?
hade a 2018 Mt 09. Quickshifter as standard here in sweden (UP only). it was 2017 they changed alot of things with the throttle. 2021 with the frame etc
I have the 2021 in standard black. Purely think black is more badass looking, so the Ohlins didn't sell me enough. Plus living in New Zealand with endless twisty coastal roads, cruise control would be pointless. I have ridden both 2020, 2020 SP, 2021 standard and 2021 SP, 2021 isn't as noticeable between normal and SP, they have really fixed the suspension! Go get one, plus the standard exhaust is hella loud in person under load, vids do nothing for justice! Have a bless day x
I was able to average 49 mpg on a ride a few nights ago by taking it EAAASY on my '19. I normally get 33-36 mpg during my usual rides. More throttle, more fuel consumption.
I have brought the 2021 MT09SP and I love it. Although I liked the Gen 2 version, I always thought the Gen 1 was better looking. They say the throttle was snatchy but I would say it had attitude and made the bike seem so much more fun.
Don’t like the placement of the brake reservoir on the 21 sp compared to the 20 , and I like the headlight assembly on the 20 over the 21 , would love to try both,
First gen to 2016 is best looking. I love the new sp as a perfect bike for me personally logically and on paper. You get so much for your dollar out the door, then cheap maint, reliable, affordable parts. but really don’t think I can get over the looks and color scheme. Ill probably end up on a monster+
My 09 all day if you drive in city alot and up 100 mph. If you drive highway and don't mind speeding at high speeds over 100mph then mt10 The mt09 is the super bike overall simply from the weight savings alone for better handling
I can’t wait for the new mt10… those side by side. The new one has really growed on me. If they chop some weight off the 10 and add some power and electronics…. Mmmm. 🤞🤞🤞. Maybe some sort of built in gps..
in that gap you were saying where you can see through the bike, they could have put all the bloody electronics instead of splattering them all under the seat and removing all possible storage space. I honestly couldn't believe that you can't fit anything under the seat on this bike.. Love the bike to bits apart from that one issue.
@@theoal5718 not really as all previous models had some storage space. Plus my spots bike can fit tyre repair kit and lock chain (yes full on lock chain) under the pillion seat cowl. Its just very poor thinking of Yamaha unfortunately
I have two 2018 MT09's and 2018 XSR900 and I not giving it up for a electrical night mare. Maybe the 2021 is a little faster but the 2017/2020 is so east to work on $$$$ less to brake. I can buy a 2021 SP right now have no interest in it the old model makes you work a little more but that's what real biking is about. I have a quick shifter don't use it don't like it. Sorry I'm an old school biker new is not always better.
I like the new one and was looking at an MT-10 because of the cruise. Definitely would have to get the SP for the cruise. I would never change it out of mode 1 though. Needs an analog speedometer instead of that awful digital one though. Hopefully you will do some comparisons between this and the MT-10.
The new one is an unfinished bike with lots of questionable, overly cheap "features"... The only real advantages are new suspension geometry and weight. And comparing two SP models would have been better, but you 'muricans never got the 2nd gen SP which had the exactly the same suspension as the new one. Sorry, but I LOL'd at the ravings about cruise control...
Love the look of the 2020 compared to the 2021 both beautiful bikes but the 2020 front looks so killer
The mono headlight on the 2021 is actually a hell of a lot better than the old headlights at night. The old headlight style on the MTO9 was basically useless at night but the mono headlight on the 2021 actually does a pretty good job of lighting up the road in the dark.

I wasn't sure about the new one at first but now I think it looks better than the earlier models.
Great comparison guys.👍

I pre-ordered in dezember and got mine 3 weeks ago...absolutley woth the wait...keep strong ;)
@@J0rmungandr96 oh wow! I'll try to hang on. Lol. That's a heck of a wait.
Mine has been ordered since December and was supposed to be here in early May, still hasn’t showed up
@@Travis-pv9kj man that sucks.. they haven't given you any update at all?
Just picked mine up Wednesday. Ordered it Jan 5th. First one that shop got.
Tbh the mt 09 2021 feels much more up to date in comparisson with previous model. I think yamaha nailed it with this leap of faith in design.

The real question is- which is faster? 👀 lol hopefully that slight increase in displacement and lighter frame makes a difference.
Once they get ecu flashes and free flowing exhausts, the new one should theoretically have an advantage over the out going model.
That's exactly what I was going to say. A good review with a nice little highway roll race always puts it into perspective.
I have the 2021. 2021 is faster when you turn off the nanny aids. A flash will make this thing insane :@
@@ryanobravo20 one flashed vs the other flashed no major difference

I like the 2021 more just in the features compared to 2020 and it looks a bit better in my opinion
Both are super cool.
Great video, cheers!
Both are nice bikes, I prefer to see black fork tubes and swing arm on the 21 and I do like the 20s head lights more, but again both are nice.
It'd be great if somebody could compare the amount of light coming from the 4 projectors headlight of the old one with the single projector headlight of the new one. Which one is better?

I dig the seat and profile on Blockheads.
I didn't like the new model at first but I have to admit it i like the look now. I have a 2017 model & love it .

dang RIP ace cafe. miss the thursday bike nights
2021 sp got all the features you ever needs 😀😀😀, bike of the year no doubt
Hello Xin Chao
The standard 2021 mt 09 has the up/ down speed shifter
I like the style of the 20 or lowers. Also give us different color schemes. Not huge on the sp color
Dammit yamaha, you guys listen to most complaints except a bigger tank! 3.7 is like 650cc bike realm.. these guzzlers need more capacity
Well, it supposedly gets 50mpg, but bigger tank is always better
I was able to average 49 mpg on a ride a few nights ago by taking it EAAASY on my '19. I normally get 33-36 mpg during my usual rides. More throttle, more fuel consumption.
Can you swap a 2020 frame on to a 2021

Did the Gen 2 also have the snatch throttle more than the new one? If so then that's the SP I will get
Don’t like the placement of the brake reservoir on the 21 sp compared to the 20 , and I like the headlight assembly on the 20 over the 21 , would love to try both,
Could you review the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled because I think it would a cool video and you haven’t done a video on a Ducati

Definitely would prefer the 2021 MT09 SP.
@ BLOCKHEAD, great video. Short rider here, is there any where to lower the seat height?
yes just like the other MTs you can use the coil wrench on the rear coil
I like the tracer.
I can not decide between the mt-09 and the mt-10…. I’m a tall rider, anyone have any advice ?
My 09 all day if you drive in city alot and up 100 mph.
If you drive highway and don't mind speeding at high speeds over 100mph then mt10

Side by side of the 2021 MT-09 SP and Tracer 9 GT would be great
Agreed. Tracer 9 looks like it's got the potential to be a solid bike
I can’t wait for the new mt10… those side by side. The new one has really growed on me. If they chop some weight off the 10 and add some power and electronics…. Mmmm. 🤞🤞🤞. Maybe some sort of built in gps..
Prefer the older model fo sho- and the TFT on the new ones look like a game boy advance SP

I own '18. Ride quality on the new 890cc is night and day better.
That 2021 headlight looks weird 🤔
My MT09 2018 came with a quick shifter as standard.
I like the old ones more visually but I gotta go with the led life so the new one wins by miles
The only thing i dont like about the 2021 is that headlight i would definitely change it to the 2020 headlight
Bring back the swing arm stickers !
MT 09 SP 2020 looks better 😀
i really want the new Tracer 9 but the pricing is crazy... might as well just jump to a Tiger or BMW. Ill probably just settle for an MT-09
I like 2020..I got the mt03 in blue and will be getting tge 2020 model ..
Me and Ed got the same jacket
2020 all day

2021’s headlight 🤮
Surprised that someone from Yamaha actually approved the design…..
6 pounds... 50 pounds... Whatever it takes 😉
💖💖👏🏼👏🏼
Cruise control is not a reason to get a bike in my opinion. A little too first world problems for me.
2021 one is so ugly (( they just destroy beautiful style of mt09 and change in the bike every-sing instead of relly need to be chaged
2020 looks so much better the 2021's so fugly
