    Very Nice! I didn't want to add a bunch of electronic stuff so I Used a solar powered mini pond fountain pump for mine,added a switch to break the Circuit and was good to go,for 10 bucks...

    I would put a hinge on that deck for easy storage

      Totes. Such wasted space unless he's planning on storing underneath, but a hinge is ideal.

    here an idea. put hinges on that last peice so you can fold up so you can use bottom as storage

    I did something similar to my 12' aluminum. I made 3 separate pieces out of 1/2 inch ply with a spine and rounded ribs out of non pressure treated scrap wood. I covered it with cheap outdoor carpet. At that point all but the top of the back 2 bench seats and the area at the rear of the boat were uncovered. I used this setup for 3 years and it worked great and help up perfectly. The 3 pieces were light and easily removable. 1/2 inch was plenty sturdy

  • @storypunman

    You should build a rear casting deck to cover where the gas tank and rear battery would go. I built one and gives you a nice bass boat with a front pitching deck and a rear casting deck with storage under both.

      yes it does, the higher the center of gravity (platform) the less stable it will be

    I'm 14. I spend about 80% of my summer up at the lake out on the water. At the moment I have a 14 foot aluminum boat from 1964 with 25 horse mariner. I'm getting a 16 foot within a few weeks. If I know for a fact that I'm going to get my money's worth out of it. Should I try something like this? I'm pretty hands on and quite good with simple construction and welding. It just comes down to if the benefits out weigh the cost.

    • @johnhanselman6371
      @johnhanselman6371 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler, If I was you I would definitely add an automatic bilge pump and the extra decking. I would not install a live bait well due to it can also sink your boat and the amount of effort installing it is not worth the benefit.
      * I would also install at least two comfortable high back boat seats that rotate 360 degrees.

    • @amychartraw1
      @amychartraw1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spend the money and frame and deck with aluminum. All the wood, particularly this builds 3/4 ply is tongue bending weight to start, just plain crazy once it's become a big sponge.

  • @ratoneJR
    @ratoneJR 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of the best things about aluminium boats is their light weight. Decking makes them heavy. Affecting performance, fuel economy and handling when not on the water. For me, the negatives far outweigh any convenience / comfort the decking provides.
    I will not deck an aluminium boat ever again, I learned my lesson.

    Can I use an existing aluminum seat in the boat in place of the wooden framing for the deck?

    • @bassproshops
      @bassproshops  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sean Lennon Hi Sean! We don't see why that would be an issue. A partial frame may still be necessary to
      support the deck, but keeping it at the same height of the seat should allow it
      all to work together.

      This is about doing stuf with products for sale not doing a job for longevity. The job is done when it’s built, no vision of what goes on down the road for the owner. “Planned obsolescence” mentality imho
