Today was 39-41 overnight. High of 55 at 2 PM. I tied on my first ever flipping jig. 1/2 oz Black and blue (tried and true) and I skipped it under an overhanging tree. Two handle turns and my rod got HEAVY. MY DRAG THAT WAS MAXED OUT STARTED SLIPPING. Feeling the head shakes I knew she was girthy. Then BOOM a 6 lb MOUTH opened and I looked like I was looking into its soul. I leaned down and grabbed the mouth and pulled her into the yak. I now throw and believe in jigs. That’s it. I’m hooked
If I can offer you some advice I would go to bass pro buy the strike king bitsy flip its only $2.39 get you about 5 in any color you like put it on a medium or medium heavy rod don't take no other baits just jig and trailer and throw it everywhere that is how you build confidence in a bait
Is not having confidence, is having patience to fish slow. Jigs is targeting fishing, you basically like fast fishing with moving baits. Try it every often and you get the hang of it...
Just caught my PB smallmouth today after using some of your tips. 1/2 oz jig and a 6” roboworm trailer dragging it down our sea wall on the river. Tied on an old rusty jig from 1994 and gave her a new skirt and 💥! Will be making jigs a serious part of my tackle inventory. Thank you for the guidance you provide! 🙏
I can co-sign this all day. My biggest and best bass come in late summer into the fall transition on a football jig and craw trailer. Three years in a row this has been a “secret sauce” for me.
You guys are the reason I splurged and went and got me a Braillist for a jig rod and I have no regrets, I know that’s not a high priced rod to some people but for me that probably the most I’ll ever spend on a fishing rod, unless I become rich lol, but I absolutely love it so thanks for the recommendation, keep up the great work!!
I just bought a brailist as well. I'm a little co fused because tim and Matt keep saying the brailist is in the XX line of megabass rods but I got it in the Levante line and couldn't find it in the XX line. Wasn't on the website. But I'm excited to get this thing on the boat.
Matt, another great video and we really appreciate the info, the explanation on the rod types and why it is important to have a jig rod that loads up through the blank and not just "tip" was helpful and made a ton of sense. Thanks!

Ya know, scent is one of those things that folks really overlook. I’ve had several fish tanks saltwater and freshwater and you would be amazed at the reactions not only fish had but the invertebrates and corals would have from even a single drop of amino acids and or garlic extract. The whole tank would light up, the fish would be swimming everywhere looking around, the shrimp would come out of hiding to check it out, and the corals would wake up and extend tentacles to capture food in the water column. Also if anyone has ever fished a small river for catfish, stink bait is probably the best bait out there and we always get the smelliest gnarliest stuff then we’d mix in other stuff to make it smellier or get a better consistency to absorb in our sponge.
There's plenty from the lasbasicsfew years. I'm more into the days they fish the bait all day and explain why etc. the video footage from last winter Matt slayed them on the jig on rock was excellent example.
Okay I've watched to the point about the right rod. PLEASE people if you read my comment, listen to what he's saying here. All of this info is good but this rod info is GOOD! As an avid jig fisherman this is super important.

Hey Matt - that Kasumi Six Eleven is also a sick micro chatterbait rod. I have it paired with an Aldebaran BFS and I love it with the HH Custom Baits Kooshball Micro Blade in 3/16. I have landed multiple 4+ pounders with that crazy light setup.

FYI if you want a cheap cheap rod. Ugly stick carbon. 7ft labeled as a MH fast but it loads down into the fifth guide. Works great for jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, etc. 70 bucks or so at academy. Great for a cheap all purpose to keep as a backup.
Surprised you didn’t mention any Loomis MBR rods for finesse jigs, as you have in the past. You’re the reason I got one and ended up catching my PB Smallmouth (4lbs 1oz) on it! Thank you!
I think the reason why they was making extra fast rods because back then most all line was mono and you needed that extra fast but now with braid and floro you don’t need that extra fast that’s my take on it
Dead on with wanting just a bit of tip heaviness on your jig rod. It also helps fish hold the jig longer because it will slightly bow to them on the bite. It increases sensitivity and your hook up percentage goes way up. I have built jig rods for many years and have tried every balance point imaginable. Just a bit tip heavy is the best.
Still learning how to gain confidence on the jig just switched over to braid for more feel but I still feel like I’m doing something wrong, I have a couple of jigs and yet have gotten on a bite on anyone of them but I just like the idea of the jig and always see guys catching monsters
That compact pitchin jig is legit! I had one tied on in my boat all summer long up here in Ohio and just wore them out (and the jig too!). I literally caught so many fish on one of them that I snapped the weed guard in half and it fell completely out of the jig. I think there's something to be said about the compact jigs from dirty jigs and their thinner skirt material. It takes much less movement in the water to get exaggerated movement from the skirt material. I've found that to be true for all of the compact jigs (compact pitchin, compact flipping, and compact football and compact swim jig).

How long of a leader do you use with the football head setup and do you use mono or some backing on the reel before spooling up the 131 or 832 suffix braid? Love these videos!

5.2 is a nice fish bro,i got a 4.8 on the x80 jr.If you get the aldy you have to turn the magnet to 5 or 6 or it blows up ,super sensative,You will get it just takes a little tweaking.

So far, with the Bait Fuel, my anecdotal experience has been very negative. I got some and soaked a bag of senkos just to see. I have now gone longer without a single senko bite than I have in years, and the formula has gooped up into a clear jelly. I'm not sure what to think cuz I've never had a bad experience with any sent.

Y’all have to take a look at the G. Loomis 873 crr. My favorite football jig rod and powerful enough for pitching jigs and Texas rigs.

I've been using the 7'-6" med hvy Zodias for my 3/8oz jigs and really like it.
Caught a 6+ with the Canterbury Flippin jig and thought I hung a log initially. It is a thrill when they grab that lure🤤

What lakes do you fish? I’m lower northeast. So it’s anywhere from west branch to Jesse Owen’s for me. But mainly rivers.

I really like throwing the micro jigs on my BFS setup. I feel like they are something my fish don't see a lot. They really do just eat it!!!

It can handle a 3/4 FINESSE jig, the braillist is needed for stouter hooks, regardless of weight.

@@tacticalbassin where would you rank bass patrol jig hooks in the stouter side or more finesse? They are nowhere near the stoutness of a NO JACK SWIM JIG hook, but Have a little more meat than a light wire finesse hook. Is that more of a brace type or EMTF?
