This was a wonderful video showing the true female dynamics of the HERD. Kumbura is ever so dedicated, Klaserie is her Mum's greatest defender. Setombe loves Klaserie first and foremost, but still has room in her heart to care for Phabeni. She has been nice to Bubi. They share the same traits as you so aptly describe, Adine. Setombe may have pushed Kumbura in error, but she did make it up to her later. We followers should all realize that this has been a big deal for Setombe. She wasn't going out of her way to take on this role. It is amazing to think how gracious she has been in taking on this task with Phabeni. Tokwe, in her quiet and serene way as matriarch, given Setombe the chance for leadership within the HERD, and I think that this is so great. Lundi is definitely looser in mothering style and personality. She loves to wander and Khanyisa often had trouble keeping up with her, staying with Tokwe instead on many occasions. To be honest, I was very surprised they picked Lundi to mother Phabeni. But the eles worked it out themselves! Mother love at first sight (well, close!) for Setombe, he's MINE lol ❤🐘🐘

I remember in a much earlier vid from '22 Kumbura was trying to wrap her trunk around Khanyisa to redirect her perhaps but she bumped the little girl on the head by accident. Adine said she wants to be an allomother but she's sometimes clumsy or doesn't realize she's using too much strength. In the vid before Adine narrated the scene I wanted to stop her. So special to see Bubi getting her chance with Phabeni I had been wondering when that would happen as I am Bubis number 1 fan this made my heart melt and beautiful Setombe allowing her . Kumbura ever the thoughtful sister love her too . I will be donating such a wonderful cause and Thank You Herd !!
I am still so amazed at the love given from the herd. Especially Setombe taking on the role of mama to Phabeni. That really did shock me but makes me so happy.
What I have seen from Phabeni’s first steps in orphanage ? This very little calf is doing exactly and only what he needs and what he wants...he needs milk bottles, but he wants also a good mother with one big daughter, without son of her own. He choose Setombe, who is reluctant first, and he choose his sister, Klaserie. A good smell, perhaps reminding his real mother’s smell? He choose Khanyisa also, despite first encounters ! And then, Phabeni will become a huge male in the herd ...with Adine and carers too!
I love little Phabeni, he has made so much progress, all thanks to all of you who work so hard to give these beautiful animals a good life! The video’s are much appreciated, thank you❤️🐘❤️
What I see is Setombe finally showing her dominance. Saying enough! that Tokwe and Lundi always get the babies and she stepped forward, also including Bubi in her group because Bubi is also not a herd favorite and has been pushed around but raised a good son. Like humans, its the popular girls vs the unpopular ones. Setombe is closing the gap, so to speak, with Bubi, Kumbura and Khanyisa allowed in, to show that they are 1 herd, not 2. Kumbura was forgiven with the trunk touch and most likely with the rumbles that we do not understand. Thats my opinion that theres a deeper meaning to all of this that only they know and its incredibly interesting to watch it unfold. Im very very happy to see Bubi, Kumbura and Khanyisa included in helping to raise baby Phabeni.
This is exactly my reading as well; I was always interested in the dynamic of a 2nd senior cow being matriarch and what would trigger Setombe to disrupt that dynamic.
@Vaal650 That is only a guess on my part, however, if that is what's happening, this might be very useful to Adine in deciding how to split the herd in future plans for release as she indicated. We also may be way off base. Just wondering. Interesting to watch and see what's developing in the herd.
That zebra blanket is miss sunshine’s old one that Zindongo stole off her and ran away with it ..😂 I remember it well . Setombe is a great mom , I find it amusing that with all your planning for it to be Lundi who would be the chosen one , the elephants ultimately chose instead .❤❤
Kumbura’s persistence - this gal is just compelled to protect babies. Her being older (around 18 mos?) when found, maybe there were younger ones in her herd that she’d have been close to, and who knows what she witnessed that resulted in the separation. The wariness and distrust she’s shown with her humans and Khanyisa causes me to think that possibly humans were involved in the trauma and it’s ingrained in her. A little ol’ thing like a chase-away by Setombe sure isn’t going to stop her, lol. Just call her Kum-boomerang.
I find it amazing how much Phabeni suckles for comfort. I would love to donate to help you, the staff and the beautiful elephants out but life is so expensive- I seriously can’t make ends meet. I do hope you have many generous people watching that can help you. ❤️🇦🇺🐘

Cara Susan , parole sante e benedette, anch'io dall'Italia non posso donare ma leggo tutto ( translate) e metto i like sempre.... vorrei donare con tutto il cuore ❤️❤️❤️.Hi dear Susan buonanotte.
Poor Kumbura 🐘. Obviously Setombe 🐘 did not really see what happened. I am glad that Kumbura 🐘 came back as she wasn't going to let Setombe 🐘 stay away. Phabeni 🐘 suckling from Bubi 🐘was so sweet. She is a wonderful allomother. Both Setombe 🐘 and Bubi 🐘 have raised wonderful children. Zindoga 🐘 is a very caring young bull. Klaserie 🐘is very attached to her mother Setombe 🐘. Where you see one the other is always close by. She may be a little ruff with the babies but I believe she means well. I did not realize that Setombe 🐘 was not very fond of Tokwe 🐘 and Lundi 🐘. I know Lundi 🐘 was picking up Phabeni 🐘 at the orphanage in the mornings has that stopped now? HERD is a wonderful place. Adine and her family have done so much for this amazing family of elephants 🐘. I hope everyone can donate a little to help to continue to feed Phabeni 🐘 and Khaynisa 🐘 their daily bottles 🍼. It's very costly. Have a wonderful day Jabulani HERD family.❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤️
It would certainly be interesting to hear the HERD interpretation as to why Lundi was displaced as the putative adoptive mother for Phabeni - I recall hearing on a vid chat in one of the intros for Phabeni - by Tiger, I think - that Tokwe and Lundi were afraid of Bubi - but maybe I misunderstood and that it was Setombe whom the two feared? Either way, it becomes clearer for me that there is a division between the 4 females from Zimbabwe. While I note that this is attributed to nervousness and introversion by Setombe and Bubi, I can't help thinking that it may be more than that. Although there is no evidence that any of the Zimbabwe 4 underwent horrific physical injuries (unlike Khanyisa or Fenya), nevertheless if they had all lost their mother by 2002, i.e. between the ages of 17 and 9 at youngest, and most probably when younger, it is quite possible that the experience of their individual loss has contributed not only to the outcome in their personality but their wariness about humankind. e.g. As Adine has previously mentioned, Bubi may be reserved because of the loss of Shewa, albeit (If I understand it correctly) Tokwe was the adoptive mother and there is an historic vid of Tokwe inspecting Shewa's milk bottle. There is so much to learn. I sometimes think Adine feels guilt for her predecessors, so does not talk in depth about the early origins of her current herd. There is no need. Times change and after all, it was Adine who dragged the herd into the 21st century.
@@Bloodnok49 we may never know. As per Adine she really doesn't know what happened to their mothers as it was before her time. I am sure that Tigere and the original carers from Zimbabwe have told her what they know. Which may not be much.❤️🐘❤️
I am so happy to have found this channel. The photography is excellent. Thanks for putting the blanket on Phabeni, its hard to see him through all those legs.
Just so you know Phabeni still suckles from lundi 🙂🙂🙂 she is absolutely hands on with little Phabeni and she respects setombes claim and ranking in the herd but Phabeni def even suckled from timisa Phabeni loves his nipple buffet lol 😂
Thank you for this video. Its really quite interesting observing the dynamics amongst the senior cows. Setombe is so facsinating, especialy the seniority thing vs the matriarchal role of Tokwe, the Lundi-Tokwe vs the Setombe - Bubi dynamic; also just how exactly it is that Setombe enforces her dominance when Tokwe is the matriach. A video on these fynamics would really be interesting.
@@allit8472 The current video commentary and description is not shy about addressing this problem: Setombe operates on her own narrow Circle of Trust, which extends only to her daughter and Phabeni, but which might include Bubi. This style of leadership probably disqualifies Setombe from operating as an inclusive leader who would have to supervise and lead all the other female orphans, including Tokwe and Lundi. Adine has noted that Setombe was prepared to discipline junior cows, but was never fully engaged with them. If I had to guess, the addition of Phabeni and him choosing Setombe will not in long run placate Tokwe and Lundi, who went raiding for a calf approx 6 months ago.
@@Bloodnok49 They could use a few more orphans in that herd... they need more babies. For all those maternal female eles, that is! A big responsibility and cost for the humans of course. We'll see. Not like you shop for the babies; life happens. Maybe there will be more rescues. Or at some point the herd is reintegrated in the wild, no longer under human care, no more contraception. Have their own babies.
Hopefully Kumbura knows that it was a misunderstanding that Setombe chased her away… she probably does. Kumbura seems to be a bit sulky when Setombe makes contact again. All the heartaches in the animql world too… (probably just projecting human behaviour, but then maybe we are not that different…) And maybe Phabeni sometimes feels like a rhino … with a horn…
I don't think you are projecting. Elephants have feelings of all kinds. Setombe appeared to accept her error and so offered an apologetic trunk - and as you say, Kumbura was evidently feeling hurt. One day, scientists will be able to decipher the infrasonic rumbles which they are now recording. I have to confess to being bewildered at the speed in which Kumbura has switched from Khanyisa to attempting to allomother Phabeni. What has happened to Timisa and Khanyisa from that unholy triumvirate? Are they still close:?
Ah, now I understand why Setombe seems to block Tokwe in the video, where all herd members meet the new baby. (The video, where Khanyisa also blocks Adine from Phabeni.) There are 2 female groups in the herd and this time the Setombe group wants to grow up a baby.
Lovely lovely to see 👍❤️ as we say in Liverpool, " no biggie" re Setombe chasing off Kumbara, they're a wonderful Herd and you're all doing fantastic work, Thank you 💞
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful afternoon with girls!!! It is wonderful to see their structure … how far they let Phabeni roam around them and how someone is always there with Phabeni. I would love to see a new video of Khanysia. Maybe coming back getting her bottles, or at the watering hole. I miss her ❤❤❤
Could it be that Setombe may have favored Bubi's approach to parenting with how Zindoga turned out to be, as evidenced by her decision to allow Bubi to assist i raising Phabeni, in comparison to how Lundi raised Mambo? And it's really painful to watch Kumbura being chased by Setombe, but we know that Setombe only did that because of her overprotectiveness and great motherly love for Phabeni. I hope Kumbura wasn't too hurt because of that, neither physically nor emotionally. I love all of them and let me just say, your videos are way better than many of the series and some of the movies I have watched. Thank you so much, Adine and all of HERD.❤🐘❤
The balance of probabilities would suggest that sadly, Phabeni's mom perished - and that could be for any number of reasons. It is highly unusual (but not impossible) for a calf to be separated from his mom by accident. The most obvious causes of separation are entrapment in a well, or a snare - and neither of these applied. Even if Phabeni's mom/herd were engaged in crop raiding and got separated, their infrasonic rumbles should have been enough to make contact.
Love the comment: "Phabeni may look like a little zebra today, but he's really just one of the herd.." Such cute Phabeni ❤🥰😘
Awww Kumbura. Bless her. Glad everything settled down quickly. Setombe is very protective of little Phabeni. It's sooo lovely how gentle Bubi, Klaserie, Kumbura and of course Setombe, are around little Phabeni, bless them and Phabeni too. Love his striped blanket.
Thank u Adine, Owen and all Carers and Ele's too 🥰🐘🥰🐘🥰🐘🥰🐘🥰🐘xxx
Nothing more beautiful than free and happy elephants
We love the herd and all of the caregivers! Thank you!! 🥰🐘🐘🐘💞
Takk!
Thanks so much. 🐘❤️
Marking calendar.💓💪👍
Phabeni has really fell in love with the herd. As we have fallen for him.
😂 I have not seen this yet, but the title is a winner 🎉
I am still so amazed at the love given from the herd. Especially Setombe taking on the role of mama to Phabeni. That really did shock me but makes me so happy.
Ricordiamoci che tra Lundi e Setombe ,Phabeni ha scelto la seconda come madre adottiva.!
Setombe ❤is a gentle mamma 🎉
So cute at 5:31, just one ear
You can read so much tenderness in their eyes
when Phabeni is around..
Aw poor Kumbura ☹️ I hope that gentle gesture from Setombe soon after means there are no hard feelings 🙏❤️🐘
I just love the way all the lady elephants put one foot forward to allow the little one to suckle! So beautiful to watch! Thank you from Canada.
When he suckled from timisa I nearly fainted lol 😂 I think he’s in heaven with his buffet of breasts lol 😂
You do a great job helping the elephants. 💜
I love little Phabeni, he has made so much progress, all thanks to all of you who work so hard to give these beautiful animals a good life! The video’s are much appreciated, thank you❤️🐘❤️
LOVE the whole herd but Kumbura has been my favorite for a long time.Meek & Mild❤
Phabeni is just so cute with his little blanket on they all little baby Phabeni so much even if they have a little fight with each other 🎉😂😂😂❤
What I see is Setombe finally showing her dominance.
We will try to support you.
We are very thankful for what you do.
The least that we can do it to donate
Love that zebra blanket!
Infatti è ciò che è accaduto! Phabeni ha scelto tra Lundi e dama Seto.be. Hi
Kumboomerang is an adorable nickname for her! 😂
CONDIVIDO TUTTO!
I send my love to my beautiful african elephant friends, god bless them everyday,as well of the good people that look after them.❤️❤️❤️❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🌏
This video was definitely not long enough! It was just getting interesting. Love watching the family dynamics play out.
I find it amazing how much Phabeni suckles for comfort. I would love to donate to help you, the staff and the beautiful elephants out but life is so expensive- I seriously can’t make ends meet. I do hope you have many generous people watching that can help you. ❤️🇦🇺🐘
@doreenbrownlie771 Doreen, you surely ARE helping by "liking" videos, commenting and letting ads play through! Never sell yourself short or apologize; life is often a struggle for most of us. We do what we can and never apologize for that. Adine knows this and really appreciates every penny. Be well!🐘👍🐦🇺🇸🙋♀️
Cara Susan , parole sante e benedette, anch'io dall'Italia non posso donare ma leggo tutto ( translate) e metto i like sempre.... vorrei donare con tutto il cuore ❤️❤️❤️.Hi dear Susan buonanotte.
What a beautiful and wonderful heard taking care of these little orphans❤🐘🐘
Setombe should apologize to Kumbura.😥
@@sallyrickerson9139 maybe she already did being Kumbura 🐘 came back and Setombe 🐘 did not bother her.❤️🐘❤️
It would certainly be interesting to hear the HERD interpretation as to why Lundi was displaced as the putative adoptive mother for Phabeni - I recall hearing on a vid chat in one of the intros for Phabeni - by Tiger, I think - that Tokwe and Lundi were afraid of Bubi - but maybe I misunderstood and that it was Setombe whom the two feared?
Which may not be much.❤️🐘❤️
Grazie cara Dorothy che riesco a capire tante cose , grazie infinite, buonanotte, sono le 21,52
I am so happy to have found this channel. The photography is excellent. Thanks for putting the blanket on Phabeni, its hard to see him through all those legs.
Thanks
Thanks so much. 🐘❤️
Kumbura has a fantastic heart!😊
Setombe denying Lundi ellie care is a tusk in the heart. Jabu was the first intro but Lundi was the first bond Phabeni had.
Just so you know Phabeni still suckles from lundi 🙂🙂🙂 she is absolutely hands on with little Phabeni and she respects setombes claim and ranking in the herd but Phabeni def even suckled from timisa Phabeni loves his nipple buffet lol 😂

Aww,no, not Kumbura! She's a precious refined lady among the females! Setombe needs a check on that!!
Phabeni's eyes are to die for...
An interesting video .Phabeni is loved by all !
I've been curious about Setombe being the dominant female over Tokwe, the matriarch. I wonder how that dynamic works.
@@hb4196 Totally agree.
Awww baby girl Kumbra!!
You got the chasey chase go away today😢
You are a lifes blessing baby girl
!
Beautiful video resonating love and peace❤❤❤
Lovely lovely to see 👍❤️ as we say in Liverpool, " no biggie" re Setombe chasing off Kumbara, they're a wonderful Herd and you're all doing fantastic work, Thank you 💞
I watch your videos everyday! Your group does heros work. What a truly special organization.
🎉
I love setombe's personality and her being reserved means that her mothering desire for phabeni is even more precious. She's beautiful ❤
I miss her ❤❤❤
God bless you all ❤❤❤❤
Kumbura is so sweet..poor girl 😕
Totally fascinating.
Setombe chasing Kimbura reminded me of what my cats do with each other ...
I got so sleepy watching today. Everyone was moving so slow and it was so quiet and still except for the wind. So relaxing. ❤
It’s carnival, Phabeni is disguised as a zebra !
I admire their environmental efforts.
Could it be that Setombe may
have favored Bubi's approach to parenting with how Zindoga turned out to be, as evidenced by her decision to allow Bubi to assist i raising Phabeni, in comparison to how Lundi raised Mambo? And it's really painful to watch Kumbura being chased by Setombe, but we know that Setombe only did that because of her overprotectiveness and great motherly love for Phabeni. I hope Kumbura wasn't too hurt because of that, neither physically nor emotionally. I love all of them and let me just say, your videos are way better than many of the series and some of the movies I have watched. Thank you so much, Adine and all of HERD.❤🐘❤
I think Phabeni has a bit of Mambo in him, so feisty sometimes. 😊 I do think Setombe would provide more discipline than Lundi would.
Phabeni’s real mom must be grieving somewhere for him.
Zindoga is surprisingly well adjusted despite Bubies' fears.
Zindoga è un buon giovane, Mambo mi dà dei pensieri per il suo carattere, temperamento! 🤔🤔🧐🙋♀️Italia
He is adorable! 🐘🍼
