I would like to personally thank you for such a clear and concise video on this issue. THANK YOU for taking your time to school the unknowing in this. It helped me so much that if you were here I would hug you. Again THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!!!!
You need a copy of the inspection if you want tags. Inspection is necessary for REGISTRATION not for Title Transfer. I have never had them ask for the paper copy unless it's a vehicle not previously registered in Texas. If it's been registered in Texas before they have electronic access to the inspection.
Bro. Thanks so much for this video. I am the person in this case that legitimately bought a car, bill of sale and title in hand, but lost the title before registering and transferring the title to myself and can’t contact the seller anymore. I think I can use this info, maybe even link this vid, to assure possible buyers that it’s okay to buy my 06 Pontiac solstice if they just do a little leg work
That's a bummer. If I were you I would do the title work yourself and THEN sell the car. No title cars scare the hell out of most people and the price is severely reduced.
Thanks for watching our videos. How did the bonded title turn out? Please subscribe if you aren't already we're putting out a lot more content these days!
I did a bonded title on a motorcycle, I learned the process throughly and down pat. It was my first bike and got it from my neighbor super cheap, it was crashed, long story here, he moved several states away, kept saying he'd get me the title, he was a over the road truck driver, gone most the time, he got home one day and his girlfriend burned all his stuff (and my title). I will tell you if you want to this, you better really want the motor vehicle bad, like really want it. Took me almost 11 months, 150$ for the bond(10 cents on the dollar) then I had to buy new tires, battery, all the parts to make it road worthy because you need to go in for a state patrol vin and vehicle inspection. Then ofcourse you have a fairly large pack of papers to fill out and learn about, send all of that packet in the mail CERTIFIED TO THE LAST LEGAL OWNER, and it must come back to you undeliverable (took about a month or more to make it back to me and the last legal owner in my case was my old nextdoor neighbor from a year before.. keep in mind that the last owner has a chance to take back the vehicle during and up to I think 3 or 4 years even after you get your bonded title. So make sure if you do this that your are rightfully doing so. I might have left out some little things and the order of a couple processes but this guy in the vid fully explains it well, watch it. I'm just telling my real life story. I did get my title after that 11 months approximately, I will say even though I was lawfully doing it, i was scared i was going to lose all the money i had put into that bike the whole process (about 1,500$) because if the last owner wanted to be a d#ck or the state just says no I would have been screwed. Well anyways, I loved that bike, put more work and money into it, road it for 7 years then sold it with no issues. Told myself I'd never do it again..mainly because the part in my state where it had to be road worthy..that's alot of money in an old fixer upper to put in on a gamble like a bonded title. If I remember right you can also have the bonded" word removed from the title after a few years or so. Not that that word on the title really madders.
Thank you! for the videos it help me get a lost tittle on my 2011 Nissan Sentra. I just follow your instruction on the video and had no problems ...Thank You! Mr. Buxton
Tom, I purchased a vehicle from a used car lot in Alvin Texas. The original owner of the used car dealership had died, and a few of his relatives are currently overseeing his used car dealership. The used car dealership REFUSES to present a title, saying, "the title is in our safe and we will transfer it into your name.". I also asked if any leins were on the vehicle, they said, "no.". I did have my cellphone on speaker as a retired accountant/CPA a friend of mine was listening in on the conversation and who also asked the used car dealership "if there was a clear title with no liens?". The used car dealership said to my friend, "no liens, and clear title.". My concern is, Why the used car dealership refuses to allow me to see the title. The used car dealership did, obtain an inspection sticker and registration, along with new plates. Is it customary for used car dealerships to not show the vehicle title and take care of the title for the buyer? I did sign a form for Texas title and registration at the used car dealership. I never seen the title or signed it. Any feedback from you Tom would help me to better understand.
Well, there’s a bit to unpack here. So one thing is if they got license plates for you they would have already taken the title to the county and done the transfer. Otherwise there wouldn’t be new plates and a registration in your name. Second, if there is no lien against the title and they put it in your name the title would have gone to you. Third, dealers are required to do that paperwork and go get your tags. We aren’t allowed to just hand you the title that’s in the original owner’s name and hope you’ll go do the title transfer. I don’t know what documents you signed so I can’t answer about the you never signed a title thing. We often get a power of attorney when we are selling because the title isn’t in from the auction yet so when it comes we use the POA To do the transfer. If the tag is in your name and there’s no liens you could just file for a duplicate title. Just an option.
I purchased a 1989 Chevy Caprice from someone that did not have the title he never registered under his name. I moved to fort bliss in El Paso, Texas 2 weeks ago so I'm not a resident of Texas. my wife is an active-duty military so we're going to do the bonded title under her name and we also got a bill of sale and a picture of his driver's license. So I hope everything goes smoothly! -Your video motivated me to buy it plus it was a great deal that I couldn't pass up.
Me again thanks again for the reply. I completely screwed up on this. I just told him that I just want him to give the 2800 I gave him , because he got an attitude and said " I will just give you the money back if that's what you want!". He's said that to me twice now. The ad said he had a clean title, but I didn't check until after I gave him the money. I told him that saying he had the title but he didn't was fraud, and I found out he was also title jumping , and I told him that was illegal. Something tells me I'm not going to hear from him again. I'm going to call the DMV to see if it has a lien when they open. I went to a website and entered the vin a it came back as not stolen so , we will see what the DMV says. I really appreciate you reply.
Great video. My husband recently passed in a motorcycle accident . I am in the process of saling everything just to survive as he had just turned 38 and we were not prepared for this as we should have been. Among these things are 3 trucks a car and the Harley and none in which I have a titles for. He only had the Harley a little over a month before the wreck and I have not been able to find the title or bi of sale he and his friend say he got the day of purchase. So it was never transferred over but he did have insurance coverage. Can this be use as proof of ownership? Along with fb messages between them? His main truck he did have the title to. He purchased from a auction company but never registered it and the title and bill of sale burnt in a house fire we had 2 years ago. But I believe I have pictures of the money orders and cash given. The other 3 are 2) 1972 trucks and a 1986 car we were given by a widow who wanted the property clean up and everything gone. She didn't know where anything for the vehicles as far as titles were. The car has some paper work in the glove box old insurance and registration etc but not the trucks. What do I do without a bill of sale and without a title for these vehicles that we given to us.
So the truck that was in his name you can file for a lost title with your court docs showing you as his executor. If you don’t have court docs and there’s no will you “should” be able to use the Affidavit of Heirship form to sell the vehicle provided there’s no recorded liens. As for the stuff with no titles pictures of money orders don’t mean a thing. Text conversations don’t either. All irrelevant and easily faked. Just fill out the forms and write in “did not receive title from seller” and leave it at that. It should be fine.
I'm in TX with a complicated situation. I know I potentially screwed up, I bought from a private seller and got the title, bill of sale and a blank application for transfer and/or registration without the signatures (I've never bought a used car before always bought new from dealers). Come to find out the Title is clear which is good but the car came originally from a repo off a small loan company that I guess sold it to their repo guy that then sold it to the guy I bought it from but no one registered it so the title is signed by the loan company and I have the lease that the repoed it and the loan company agrees the title is good and the car was sold. I try to register it and the state wants the loan company since they signed the title to fill out the application for transfer and/or registration plus write a statement that they accidentally signed the front of the title. Once that's done the state said I can register it to myself. Problem is the loan company seems hesitant to sign anything and has to get with the District Manager for approval, what options do I have to still register it in my name if they don't sign it???? I assume the repo guy and the guy I bought it from was just trying to avoid paying taxes and fees. IO just want to pay what I owe the state get it registered and move forward and learn a valuable lesson.... Any advice or guidance would really help[p......
Yeah so at this point I think your only option is to do the bonded title process as the title you have in your hand is not negotiable. It would need to be registered by the first company and then sold to you. If you let it out of your hands and they were put it in their name they're going to be taxed and the vehicle will be legally theirs and you'd have to cross your fingers that they would then turn around and give the title back to you. Just do the bonded process and you'll be fine. It's the quickest and best option at this point.
It looks pretty straight forward, not easy but doable. What I don’t understand is why some supposedly professional people, recommend not to buy without a title unless the original owner can be reached.
I'd guess because they're afraid of it, afraid it's stolen, things like that. Which I've ever only bought 1 that was reported stolen. And I didn't go to jail or anything. I've literally bought 100's.
In the directions it'll say you send the initial application to the state Department of Motor vehicles. Then once you have all the paperwork gathered you take that pile to your local tax office.
Thank you for the help. What if you paid 3000 down to a private seller who said they had the title but actually didn't have one. I asked the guy to send me a picture of the title and he couldn't, made up excuses. First time I bought a car .ty
So this is why you don't finance from a private party. Do you have an installment agreement? You didn't go with this private party person to verify they registered the car in your name with them as a lienholder? My guess is no. So if they guy you bought it from isn't the legal owner you can just go do a bonded title on the car.
Thank for all this information. My case I was trying buy a car at Storage Treasure Auction and they only give a bill of sale .. I'm not sure about .. and I don't have access to the Vin number for a simple verification...
Awesome video! I have few questions, is there an annual fee for the bonded title or once you get it your good then in 3 years pay $33 to take the bonded part off. Also does that make it similar to an original title and make it yours even if the owner comes back. (Not that I’m worried just curious) I bought a 1971 C10 from a family friend and the guy he got it from lost the title I checked and its not stolen not salvaged and pretty sure it does not have a lien and meets the other criteria for application. It has Texas antique plates that went out in 2018 so would I do something different in that case? I know that’s a lot of info and questions I’ve just been really wanting to title this truck bad for 5 years and after this video I feel like it’s possible. Thank you so much!
You only pay the bond once. After three years you can pay the $33 and get a new title. It will be an “original blue title” and show “bonded” under the remarks. I’ve done over 100 or these. Maybe 200 by now. I had one go bad. My customer did have to relinquish the vehicle and then the bond company paid them. I have a video called bonded title goes bad. But again, this is 1 out of possibly 200. Thanks for watching!
Another question on the application for title, the last link on the video, it says signature of seller/trader. Would I fill that out or only the section right under it where it says owner? I say that because there’s also a box that needs to be checked above the mentioned signatures that states the title was lost or damaged. I know I would check that box but don’t know if I would sign the section under it because I’m not the trader/seller. I ask you as you have experince filling out these sections. Would I leave the trader/seller area blank and just fill out the owner section?
Thank you so much! My dad has this car his been driving around for 2+ years with no title. He said he would give me the car if I can take out the bound title. We’re still in contact with the person who sold the car to him. But we don’t have any proof my dad bought it 2+ years ago bc it was through cash. Can we still fill out the bill of sale?
Sure. You can fill out a bill of sale saying you bought it two years ago and then when you register it you can pay the fine for the late title transfer. If you lie on the form by putting a date less than 30 days ago to avoid the penalty that's a felony. Your call.
Great Video, I have a question what if I buy a Junk Car and just want to scrap it, can I just go through the bonding process or do I need to apply for the title. Thanks for your time
My son bought a car the guy had no title now DMV says there is a lean . He went too where the car dealer ship was at but is not in business anymore . How can he get it a title
Unfortunately he will need to do the bonded title process. If the dealership is out of business he should be able to get a title. I have a video on bonded titles. Whoever writes the bond will be responsible for verifying the lienholder is out of business. They will also receive a letter from the state telling them that you are applying for a bonded title and they will have the opportunity to contact the state and say that the vehicle wasn't paid for in which case they may be able to get the vehicle back. But again, if they're out of business you should have no issues.
Bought a 73 charger in Oklahoma, last registered in 1985. Got a bill of sale, not running but complete. Do I have a good chance of getting a bonded title? Thanks for doing the video, it was a great help
If you are a Texas resident this process will work. You'll need that 68A vin inspection I talked about in the video but as long as it's not stolen there's no reason you wouldn't get a title.
What about if the vehicle is clear of liens, isn't stolen, has been sold several times without the title, and has no license plates? That's my situation with a motorcycle I bought.
Thank you for the breakdown. Do you know how it works to purchase a vehicle (boat) with no title in Texas, but then bring it to another state? We live in Arkansas, but found a boat in Texas.
Hey thanks for watching. If the boat has no title you will need to do whatever Arkansas' procedure is if they have one. I only know the Texas stuff enough to feel comfortable sharing. I'd trying googling and see if it comes up with anything and then call your state DMV or Parks and Wildlife who whoever does that to confirm.
I went to the Carrollton service center I have a 69 f100 that needs a Total Restoration the teller at Carrollton service center told me I would need a $35,000 Bond I thought that was crazy is there any way around this amount I tried calling an appraisal company they never got back to me. After seeing your video bonds gone bad I don't think I want to be responsible if something comes up for$35,000 how much is a bond for that amount thank you for your help
You can have it appraised by used car dealers, there is a specific form they're supposed to use. You can call Carrollton and ask. Then they will set the bond amount closer to the appraised value.
so we got an RV salvage title RV they person said they worked under a dealer license and the dealer would issue the title .... now it's several months later and we still don't have the title and are getting the run around..... not sure what to do now
Well my guess is you got lied to. If they actually work at a dealership you can file a complaint the the TXDMV. Just google search "texas auto dealer complaint" and you should find a link for it. If that doesn't work to get them going you'll have to do a bonded title on that. I have a video on that as well.
Hi! Thank you for the informative video. I have a few questions about a situation that I am in. I bought my first car from a private seller. I made a mistake and didn't realize that the person I bought it from didn't register the vehicle and didn't have the title in his name. The name on the title is someone else not the guy that I bought it from. I'm not sure what to do, any advice would be helpful. also I ran a report on the vehicle and everything came back clean. There is no lien, the car wasn't reported stolen, no accidents, etc. I'm in Texas too. Would this situation call for a bonded title?
What an excellent informative video, kudos to you. We have a truck purchased at auction from the Texas A&M and we’ve done all you stated. However the Waco DMV assigned an excessive value.to the vehicle based on their “blue book” value search. Can we challenge the value assessed? Please advise. When do surety bonds expire.?
The state doesn't use a blue book - it's called standard presumptive value. The number is arrived at as an average for vehicles with that equipment being registered. You're stuck with it. You are taxed on actual sale price or standard presumptive value, which ever is higher.
I’m trying to buy a car but he says he doesn’t have the title something that he’s not able to get it from the back but he telling me if I get a lien on it I can get the title a bit confused should I get the vin number to see if it’s owed or stolen where would I check
Another question for you. If a vehicle has a clean title but on the Vin report under insurance records it says insurance company - progressive - disposition salvage. What does that mean? If I buy the vehicle I can't use progressive insurance? Or will it be hard to get insurance even though the title is clean? Under the salvage/junk section of the report it says green no issues reported.
I don’t know where the information is coming from. It could be that they sold you the car and handed you the clean title and then were issued a salvage title and they aren’t fessing up about that. I would call your regional dmv office and give them the vin and ask if it’s salvage, rebuilt, or unbranded.
Man. That’s tough. Usually on the dash, in the door jam, sometimes stamped on the strut tower in the engine bay or on the firewall. I would google your car and “vin locations” and see what pops up. If none of those are there you’re gonna have to call the TxDMV regional office nearest to do you see what they say.
I have bonded many Arizona titles. Simply put the DMV requires a level one in person inspection to verify the VIN. Pay the fee and go hunt for a bond company. They don't even want to see the bill or sale at the DMV. The VIN is their only concern. There is some footwork to be done that requires two DMV in person visits one for level one and the other to complete the paperwork after the bond is done. But a trip to a bond agency that will bond the vehicle is first. Many bond places see bonding a car as small pickings and refuse to do it. I recently bonded a title for a 61 Ford Falcon 2 door wagon less title. I discovered the AZ DMV uses Barrett Jackson auction results to base their valuations which is absurd given how that auction works with rich people in bidding wars over cars jacking up prices. But the bond ended up costing me $400 to bond a valuation of $41K of which almost $10K is a percentage higher tacked on by the DMV to cover the DMV's court costs if it gets sued by an owner wanting to pay storage to me and reclaim the vehicle. It's a scam in Arizona but they hold all the cards. If you want to bond a title in Arizona that's how it's done.
Good afternoon, I really liked this video and found it helpful. I wanted to ask if I bought my car off Copart from Georgia and got it rebuilt here in texas and sold it to someone as a salvage title but the deal fell through, then would I have to get a bonded title? I spoke to my county tax assessor and they only gave me a packet to fill out a bonded title. Keep in mind I still have the brown salvage Georgia title under the insurance name (I never put it under my name that is my mistake) and have two boxes signed. One over to me and another over to the person that was going to buy it. The reason why they wouldn't do the transfer in his county is because I'm not a dealer so I couldn't transfer the vehicle as a salvage title, id has to register it in my name and then be able to sell it.
So the car has been signed over to you. You aren't a dealer so you have to do a title transfer and pay your tax on the vehicle before you can sell it. You can't reassign it to anyone. The state wants their money. Most county tax offices have a form "Statement of fact" you can get from them and fill out and say you didn't sell the vehicle. Then they should let you put it in your name as a salvage vehicle. I'm not sure they'll make you go through the whole rebuild process. You can also call the state DMV for clarification.
This a great video and just what I needed! How does it affect the process if you don't have a bill of sale and the vehicle was abandoned at your property? We have received a certified letter from the líen holder stating they no longer have any financial interest in the vehicle. Thank you! 🙏
I would make a copy of the letter and include it as one of your "supporting documents" and on the bonded title application where it asks for the reason just write you didn't get a bill of sale.
@@buxtonautosales im glad i came across your video. There a lady Thats saleing a 2013 Harley Davidson iron 883 and she has a bonded title and she asking $4500. My first question is could i talk her down on the price? As i stated before she has the bonded title and the title is in her name. How can i go about Getting the title?
You will need to contact the previous owner you bought it from and ask them to file for a certified copy of title, sign it to you again, and then go transfer it at your local tax office or if you can not get in contact with them you will need to do the bonded title process.
My friend bought a car (abandoned/not paid at mechanic shop) using this bonded title process. He registered car but did not receive title for over 3 month. We sent inquiry letter to DMV and they responded that title was sent to the registered vehicle owner. Any idea what should be our next step? We are in Texas Dallas area
Hello I’m purchasing a vehicle Wednesday and I’m buying it from a guy who works at a wrecker yard and he told me the owner of the vehicle couldn’t pay off the debt and now the wrecker has possession of the truck with a bill of sale. Can I get a bond and register the truck for myself?
Sounds shady. If the impound yard had impounded the vehicle and done their paperwork you would be able to get a title via the auction process. If the guy had the title to the car and signed it over to the yard they would have a title. I soon suspect he owes money on the vehicle and you will have to do a bonded title.
@@buxtonautosales no I believe the guy who got the truck impounded couldn’t find the title and so the wrecker company got a bill of sale. If there is a way to show you screenshots of the messages that would help out a lot! And if I need to get a bond or anything I’ll do it as long as it’s in my possession!
I'm completely clueless on that one. It's kind of "after the fact" but doing that request for motor vehicle information before you buy it would have revealed that. I truly don't have any advice to give at this point. I'm sorry.
I appreciate your videos! I bought a 1979 Harley-Davidson Sportster Engine From a Company in Texas. I live in New York. The Rest of the bike was parted out by the same company, but I had all the parts to reassemble the bike already. I have a Bill of sale From the Company I bought the bike From and a MSO for the Paughco frame I put it in. Is there a Chance to either get a Texas title or register it in Texas? Getting a New York Title is next to impossible, The lady at DMV handed me a ream of paper instructions and a convoluted system of expensive hoops to jump through and looked at me Like I was not only a biker dirtbag criminal butI was proof of extraterrestrial life! Any help appreciated! Thanks for Your videos They're helpful already! The Original owner is from Texas.
That will depend on the value of your vehicle. Title fee is $33 in most counties. Sales tax is .0625 of purchase price or presumptive tax value whichever is higher. Then if you want license plates that's another $80 in most counties.
You can check out our website to see our Inventory. Right now only two trucks. 4L80's are pretty common we actually get about $3k for one installed but as the power of the internet will prove they'll be 50 people telling you they can do it cheaper!
@@buxtonautosales I'm looking to buy a wreck truck that I can get the transmission out of I can put it in and take it out myself but I don't necessarily need a whole another vehicle I would just like to buy a used transmission or a truck fairly cheap that I could get it and get back to work
Question: Say i get a bonded title for the 1967 Ford that i want, fix it up and get it going again, im moving from Texas to Montana before summer 2024 no matter what. Would having a bonded title be an issue to register it in Montana or what, if any loophole, can i legally use?
I don't know what the laws are in Montana. I would call their motor vehicle department and verify that you can title/register a bonded title vehicle from another state.
Thank you. A question I have, I have a title that is super dried out kind of broken up was folded up with other registration paperwork in a plastic bag in the glove box. The car hasn't been registered since 1985, and the title is damaged because of it being superheated and dry for so long. It's brittle. What can I do with that situation?
You can try to fill it in and use it - if they won't accept it and you're not related to or can't find the seller to apply for a certified copy you'll need to get a bonded title. Photo copy that old title as your proof of ownership.
Thank you for your video. got a motorcycle (paid $600 for the motor and the guy gave me the frame and front forks) I did a BOS for the motor for $600 and did one for the frame as gift for the price. Do you think that will work? Same VIN for both the frame and engine.
Hi.I am an Illinois resident that bought a 2010 Camaro from a Texas resident/seller.registered owner on title.I got it just with the Bill of Sale and an open title for me to be easy to flip it. Now in the meantime I did misplaced the original Title(TX) cause the vehicle went to a mechanic shop for different repairs and was there for 1 year...I do still the Bill of Sale beetwen me and the seller, the car is not stolen, how i can get the title directly in my name or how can i get a duplicate title from TX DMV?Thanks
Hello, I bought a motorcycle from a guy without a title. It was a private seller and did not give me a bill of sale. Guy won’t answer back to me. Can I still proceed with the bonded title even though I can’t send a bill of sale? The only proof I have is a receipt of the cash I took out from my bank and messages on Facebook? Please let me know thank you!
One more question if I bought a vehicle with a bonded title but the title has not been filled out, do I have to apply for another bonded title for the same vehicle? I can’t contact the guy so he can’t provide a signature or paperwork to transfer the vehicle to my name. How would I take it from there
So if I'm understanding you correctly you were handed a title that had nothing filled out on the back, no signatures at all? If you can not find the guy who's name is on the front you will have to apply for another title. I know there are people out there that would tell you to just sign the guys name HOWEVER, that's forgery and a felony so I don't suggest it.
What if there is no lien holder but the register owner is asleep at the wheel when they send the notification for thr bonded title. He doesn't contest it and the bonded title is issued. The original owner then wishes to contest the transfer of the vehicle, what is that process?
Really appreciate the video! I do have a question for you. I purchased a vehicle in Texas, got a bill of sale and the title. When I drove home to Tennessee, I went to the dmv to register it in my name but the former owner had pulled a duplicate title. I called the former owner and he is saying that he wasn't the one who pulled the title. Would a bonded title be the way to proceed for me? I paid 20k for this truck and now I can't register it.
So my video is about how to do a Texas bonded title. As you are not a Texas resident this wouldn't apply to you. I would bet that TN has a bonded title process you could do there. (But not all states do them) Hope that works out for you. Not sure which owner is which or what not but you do have to have a photo ID to get a duplicate title. Not sure how this is gonna work out based on what you've said. You will need to lean on your local DMV to work through this one.
Did you get this taken care of? I’m in the same situation this dealer is a scam artist though (apparently he only has to put a deposit from the auction, sells the car and within a month after he pay the remaining balance and keeps the profit he “sends” out the title.) complete crook and I was in a military uniform. Drove it back to Florida and 2.5 months later after 6 excuses (aunt died, hurricane, vacation, etc..) still no title
How to figure out the value of a vehicle. I'm buying a classic car that is not running, rolling chassis with engine that needs to be rebuilt. I'm buying for $3k, car fixed is worth $40k. I'll have to put $20k in labor/parts.
What if I bought a brand new bike and it was never registered by the seller who sold it to me but he misplaced the title and I get a bonded title..will his name pop up as the original owner? Even tho he never registered it under his name and sold it to me? Sounds like a title jump ..but what’s your thoughts
If you put down on the bonded title paperwork you bought it from him he will show up as the previous owner. I have also seen the previous owner listed as "bonded title" I think it in part depends on how the county tax office types it through.
I bought a motorcycle from a guy that actually had the title. I have the signed bill of sale but he signed the title wrong. I can no longer get in contact with the seller to sign this form I got from I got from the county tax office.
So if I went on the spv calculator and the car is valued at $19,000 would I pay a bond of about $1180? I'm confused as how much I pay based on the value of the vehicle. On the txsdps it says you pay 1.5 x's the amount of the spv. What exactly does that mean? Also the car is from out of state and I'm thinking of getting it by auction.
If you’re buying it from an auction like an impound or something they should provide you paperwork to get a title to the vehicle so you wouldn’t need a bonded title. If you did, your bond amount is based on one and a half times the presumptive value. So in your example 1.5x$19000 = $28,500. That would be what you would buy the bond against. You’ll want to call around and find the best price. It’s a small portion of the value.
Hey Tom, I am buying a car from Colorado, do I have to take it for inspection physically to my local law inforcement office to make sure that it is not stolen or just the VIN # would do the trick? Please let me know. Thanks !
Well like the video says, if it's not previously registered in Texas it needs the 68-A vin inspection. That is generally done by auto theft task forces and few police departments are going to do it. You will want to check with DPS or your local police department prior to purchasing it to make sure it's not stolen.
I bought a car from a dealer last year and he keeps swearing that the title got lost when moving his office and now he is not doing anything just telling me that he is waiting for it can i apply for a bonded title ???
You can do a bonded title but I would tell the dealer he needs to pay those expenses and I would probably file a complaint the the TXDMV that you haven't gotten your title. That will "encourage" him to rectify the situation.
This is the process in Texas. Each state has different guidelines- you’ll want to check with your state DMV to see if there is a bonded title process. Thanks for watching!
You can still do the bonded title process. You just don't have any proof of purchase. Just write in the box you lost your bill of sale. You'll be fine.
You can fill out the from "Texas request for motor vehicle information" and take it to your county tax office. It costs $2.00. You'll need the vehicle's vin. That will tell you who the lien holder is if there's a lien recorded. You can also call the TXDMV and ask if there's a lien. They won't tell you who the lienholder is but they will tell you if there's a lien recorded.
I would like to personally thank you for such a clear and concise video on this issue. THANK YOU for taking your time to school the unknowing in this. It helped me so much that if you were here I would hug you. Again THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Completed all of these steps.. went to Tax assessor. You will also need a copy of current inspection. Even if it’s current. You need a copy of it.
Please I need your help and how can I get in touch with you?
Trying this! Thank you so much. Finally got my bill of sale even though my own mother refused to give me a copy of her ID

Wonderful!

Thanks from a fellow Fate resident. Appreciate the FACTS Tom!

I bought a project truck and lost my title for it this helps so so much
Thanks for watching my video. I really, appreciate it. I'm posting more content lately so please SUBSCRIBE if you haven't!
Excellent video Mr. Buton. Clear and concise. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video!! I definitely know
What to do now! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I found your video very interesting and detailed
Glad you liked it!
Very helpful video sir. One question, where do you mail the bonded title form and corresponding documents? Thanks in advance.
In the directions it'll say you send the initial application to the state Department of Motor vehicles. Then once you have all the paperwork gathered you take that pile to your local tax office.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
My pleasure!
Hey Tom great video very informative
Glad you enjoyed it
good information. Thanks for taking the time to run this down
You bet
Yep, sounds like you're going to need to do the bonded title.
Hey brother you know any place to get a surety bond ? In Carrollton Texas

wow what a thorough video, thank you!
Thank you!
Awesome video! I have few questions, is there an annual fee for the bonded title or once you get it your good then in 3 years pay $33 to take the bonded part off. Also does that make it similar to an original title and make it yours even if the owner comes back. (Not that I’m worried just curious)
I bought a 1971 C10 from a family friend and the guy he got it from lost the title I checked and its not stolen not salvaged and pretty sure it does not have a lien and meets the other criteria for application.
You're going to fill out all the "Applicant" information and sign at the bottom as "applicant/owner"
Great explanation ❤
Thanks! Glad you watched my video. Much appreciated!
Thanks for your time
If you're gonna scrap it just call a junkyard. Most will just run the vin to make sure it's not stolen and buy it.
Im in Florida and I want to buy a texas food trailer but they dont have a title. How do I verify if there is a title for the trailer.?
Texas request for vehicle information form.

This video was so helpful. Thank you so much. Question, is it a red flag if a seller won't tell you the VIN number?
Red flag? How can you write a bill of sale or verify if it's a rebuilt title or stolen without a vin? Yes, it's a very, very red flag.
Thank you very informative
Glad it was helpful!
What about if the vehicle is clear of liens, isn't stolen, has been sold several times without the title, and has no license plates? That's my situation with a motorcycle I bought.
You can still get a bonded title.
In Texas there is no way to fix any title issue with the boat. DO NOT BUY BOAT WITHOUT 100% GOOD TITLE IN TEXAS!!!
Nice clear run down thank you!
You bet!
What if you don’t have a bill of sale? Is there anything you can do?
Yeah you can still do the process. It helps, but not required. You just explain in that box how you came to own the car.
Clear and helpful information
Glad it was helpful!
Instead of mailing the initial form. Can that be done in person ?
Yep you can take it to a regional service center.
so we got an RV salvage title RV they person said they worked under a dealer license and the dealer would issue the title .... now it's several months later and we still don't have the title and are getting the run around..... not sure what to do now
Well my guess is you got lied to. If they actually work at a dealership you can file a complaint the the TXDMV. Just google search "texas auto dealer complaint" and you should find a link for it. If that doesn't work to get them going you'll have to do a bonded title on that. I have a video on that as well.
@@buxtonautosales yes we plan to i am just worried that if we complain then something will mess us up
Thanks for the info, this is good stuff
You bet
You just stopped two years of fear and headache
That's good to hear.
Thanks for watching our videos. Please subscribe if you aren't already we're putting out a lot more content these days!
My man, you just saved me some trouble. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Thank you Tom
You are very welcome
What an excellent informative video, kudos to you. We have a truck purchased at auction from the Texas A&M and we’ve done all you stated. However the Waco DMV assigned an excessive value.to the vehicle based on their “blue book” value search. Can we challenge the value assessed? Please advise. When do surety bonds expire.?
The state doesn't use a blue book - it's called standard presumptive value. The number is arrived at as an average for vehicles with that equipment being registered. You're stuck with it. You are taxed on actual sale price or standard presumptive value, which ever is higher.
Ok. Do surety bonds expire?
I’m trying to buy a car but he says he doesn’t have the title something that he’s not able to get it from the back but he telling me if I get a lien on it I can get the title a bit confused should I get the vin number to see if it’s owed or stolen where would I check
You have to have a title in the first place to put a lien on a vehicle. He's feeding you a line of crap.
@@buxtonautosales I will call the DMV and ask. Thank you again.
What of you can't find vin# anywhere
Thanks for watching our videos. Please subscribe if you aren't already we're putting out a lot more content these days!
You sir are a godsend
I don't know about that but thank you!

I bought a car and they did not sign the back of the brown title which is a lost title what can I do to put the car in my name
You will need to contact the previous owner you bought it from and ask them to file for a certified copy of title, sign it to you again, and then go transfer it at your local tax office or if you can not get in contact with them you will need to do the bonded title process.
I bought a 96 ford f350 from this lady that has the truck but she doesn’t have title, so would I need to do the bonded title route?
Yes sir.

He mentioned “lost title, bill of sale only”
Sounds shady.
Go buy it then you should be fine if that’s what the situation is.
@@TomGriffin-vv6exokay thanks
What if I bought a oldie truck and i found out later it was exported to Mexico before and never imported back to Texas and no title for it ? Thank you
I'm completely clueless on that one.
P.S. the Original owner is From Texas, Not sure if the Company I bought it from. is insurance or salvag.e
If you live in New York you can't register your vehicle in Texas.
the title i have is a police auction item that the person that bought it never put it in their name so I was told I have to get a bonded title
You are correct.

awesome step by step vid thank you

Thank you one More Question How Much I will pay for Tax Office for Title
That will depend on the value of your vehicle. Title fee is $33 in most counties. Sales tax is .0625 of purchase price or presumptive tax value whichever is higher. Then if you want license plates that's another $80 in most counties.
What kind of cars do you have for sale? I need a transmission for 2000 Silverado 2500 it has a 6.0 it has to be a 4L 80 transmission
You can check out our website to see our Inventory. Right now only two trucks. 4L80's are pretty common we actually get about $3k for one installed but as the power of the internet will prove they'll be 50 people telling you they can do it cheaper!
@@buxtonautosales I'm looking to buy a wreck truck that I can get the transmission out of I can put it in and take it out myself but I don't necessarily need a whole another vehicle I would just like to buy a used transmission or a truck fairly cheap that I could get it and get back to work
Yep just keep checking marketplace and Craigslist.
Good job
Thanks
Would you accept a 2005 Yukon without a title as a down payment
Yes we would but we can't give you a trade in value until we see it and find out what's up with the title.
Ok I really appreciate the reply , when I know more I will give you a call, thanks again.
Question:
Say i get a bonded title for the 1967 Ford that i want, fix it up and get it going again, im moving from Texas to Montana before summer 2024 no matter what.
Thank you. It was helpful

Thank you for your video. got a motorcycle (paid $600 for the motor and the guy gave me the frame and front forks) I did a BOS for the motor for $600 and did one for the frame as gift for the price. Do you think that will work? Same VIN for both the frame and engine.
While I'm not a motorcycle guy I believe it would!

What about a charge off.
Even if a creditor charged of the bad debt they still have a valid lien against the collateral, being the car.
Yeah you’ll be fine. If you can print those and send them great, if not, they will still process your app without it. Thanks for watching!
Did they? It'll take a court order. Check out my other videos on when one goes bad. I made it a week or two ago.
@@buxtonautosales yea that's pretty much what happened. I'll check out the other videos. Your knowledge is awesome. Thanks for the videos.
So as long as the vehicle is not stolen you can get a bonded title on it?
No, like the video said if there is an UNPAID lien that is less than 10 years old you can't.
How to figure out the value of a vehicle. I'm buying a classic car that is not running, rolling chassis with engine that needs to be rebuilt. I'm buying for $3k, car fixed is worth $40k. I'll have to put $20k in labor/parts.
Thanks for watching my video. I really, appreciate it. I'm posting more content lately so please SUBSCRIBE if you haven't!
Would this apply for trailers too?
Believe so. But I don't sell trailers so don't quote me.
Yep do the bonded title and send in a copy of the title that's signed wrong as your proof of purchase.
@@buxtonautosales Thank you for the quick response! Very much appreciated. On the auction it says no title, bill of sale only.
Good info ...like your informational videos
Are you still going to to that video on things to avoid when starting up your dealership

Is this only for Texas residents? I bought a car in NJ with no title, no bill of sale. Owner took money never signed bill of sale
This is the process in Texas. Each state has different guidelines- you’ll want to check with your state DMV to see if there is a bonded title process. Thanks for watching!
I have had my truck for 15yrs and can't fine my bill of sale nor get a hold of the Regional owner so now what?
You can still do the bonded title process. You just don't have any proof of purchase. Just write in the box you lost your bill of sale. You'll be fine.
Who could I call to see if there’s any valid lien on the car??
You can fill out the from "Texas request for motor vehicle information" and take it to your county tax office. It costs $2.00. You'll need the vehicle's vin. That will tell you who the lien holder is if there's a lien recorded. You can also call the TXDMV and ask if there's a lien. They won't tell you who the lienholder is but they will tell you if there's a lien recorded.
@@buxtonautosales thank you!!
What if you don't have the seller ID but just the bill of sale with there name and signature.
I'm sure that'll be fine.
