    40 years ago, the air cadets (285) used Martini action .22 rifles to train with. I remember prefering it to bolt actions or even a FAL fitted with a .22 insert barrel. Enjoying the series. well done that man.

      When, as a young Policeman in the early 1970s, I had to see a farmer in Berkshire (UK) with a view to enquire about his soon to expire Firearms Licence. He did not want to renew so with his agreement I 'seized' the weapon - a Martini retrofitted with a .22 barrel. Prior to seizure he offered the weapon to me, free of charge; but of course I had to decline..unfortunately !
      It was a lovely weapon, wonderful smooth breach action, the stock shone and even the links on it's sling looked well cared for. It now probably resides at the bottom of a trench in the Atlantic Ocean as happened to all like firearms.

      It’s a bit surprising that it existed so long ago... that said, the nipple cap existed for the P53 so the requirement for the practicing of firing and the mitigation of any undue wear had been around for quite some time.

    Brithshmuzzleloaders, I like your home made snap-cap. The dry firing drill is very similar to how my father trained me but he put a dime on top of the barrel, I had to practice until the dime did not move. The first Martini rifle I ever saw and got to hold was at a gun show. The thumb-pad was said to be for bayonet drill or fighting. Funny how thing go around. Keep up the good work, I diffidently will be interested in the distance talk.

      My immediate supposition was that the thumb tab is what the manufacturers intended as an introduction to opening the rifle to get at the spent cartridge and then ejecting it.

    Another informative video, I am sure the outward inward motion for the standing position was in part to avoid the rifle but snagging on parts of the kit. Also we practiced the basic shooting positions you mentioned in the seventies, I hated the laying or prone, hard on my then skinny collar bone.

    • @britishmuzzleloaders
      @britishmuzzleloaders  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The posiiton Drill was done in the way it was to ensure that the rifle was placed firmly in the shoulder. It also had a benefit, especially in earlier times of allowing for the knapsack straps to be pulled forward and not impede the arms when bringing the weapon up.
