My Dad did the musical arrangement for this song and as a shy 7 year old, I sat quietly in our living room as both Don Estelle and Windsor Davis rehearsed the song with my Dad playing piano, will never forget the discussions on how to sing the song and Don’s incredible voice.

Back in 1974 we had 3 tv channels, no satellite TV not Videos and no Freeview but we had class acts like these and millions tuned in to watch them. We may have massive choice now but little quality, and performers like these are a thing of the past never to be repeated. RIP British TV

I played piano on tour with Don in NZ, in 1996. One of the Great voices. great memories. Each night as I started the opening piano riff of Whispering Grass, he’d turn and smile at me in the spotlight. It was a fun tour, nice concerts with the band. Don could knock out Roy Orbison, too.

Apologies to the late, great, Don Estelle. As a kid in the seventies I dismissed this as a crappy novelty record that didn't warrant being in the pop charts, despite loving "It ain't half hot mum". Over the last few weeks I've been watching re runs and was astounded with Don's singing in the show.

I saw Don Estelle singing this in a shopping mall in Clydebank in 1990. He was singing live to to a backing tape. He sang it just like this maybe even better. I stood in awe for his whole set. I thought it was a shame that he had to do this to sell his Cds when he was one of our Great British icons.

Reminds me so much of my granddad who was a WW2 veteran and died back in 1986. He used to love this show so much. I can still hear him laughing out loud, sat in his favourite armchair. The lovely thing about this video is how Windsor Davies tried visually to claim the credit for the music in his faces and gestures, and it was purely comedic, nothing else. The humour between these two men was brilliant. Doh Estelle was of course a lovely singer. I love rock, punk, you name it, but I know good singing, and Don's voice is a dream.

I used to absolutely kill myself laughing. Anyone who says they are offended has no sense of humour and is only claiming it for the attention.

Don was a brilliant singer... I saw him standing outside an amusement arcade in Scarborough sometime in the 80s. He was handing out flyers for his show. Very underrated singer.

How sad, and frankly a pathetic sign of our times, that the BBC banned any repeat of this terrific series.

there was discrimination back in the 70's yes but sometimes people get offended just for the sake of being offended. The series and a few others highlighted the problem rather than being the problem and be very funny with it too.

Its an attempt to please everyone. The attitudes of the 70s were normal back then, that's how it should be judged not from a modern sensibility. The past is another country etc.

I swear we had some of the programmes from 70's were the best ever, yes some were racist, sexist, etc, but the world was then, and is just as now however much they try to convince us otherwise.....

Yes I remember those wonderful 1970s I was in my teens and early 20s when these two wonderful men did their stuff. Song no.1 back in 1975. RIP Don and Windsor.

Many years ago during the summer holidays I used to take my family camping at Skipsea and we would always visit some friends in Bridlington during the week. We all have fond memories of walking through the town and hearing the sound of 'Whispering Grass' coming from Woolworths Store as Don, sometimes accompanied by Windsor, were giving a performance to promote sales of the tape. This seemed to happen every year, and so we looked forward to it. Happy days eh!!!
