As someone whose been through my share of engine rebuilds, theres nothing sweeter than when it all comes together like this and fires right up to a smooth idle with no problems. This is the sign of good attention to detail and the fact that youve done an exemplary job of covering all the bases and the proof of the setup is in this final result. Youve done an excellent job in so many areas here, research, fitment, tuning, assembly, parts sourcing etc etc etc. Nice to see this bit of WWII history saved and not rotting in a field somewhere.
I’ve been following your whole series about this jeep..What a sweet engine. Bring me back very cool memories. I learned how to drive on a Cj2 1952 that is the same engine. I love that sound when you rev up the “Go Devil”. Thanks for bring me back those memories. Keep going with that beauty. Greetings Criss
If that Optima battery had been available during WWII I think that it would have been the standard battery for the Willys. Possibly custom manufactured with a muted color top.
Top job matt, got a bit of time on the jeep yday, got the body tub on, one man style lol, laid the tub on its side next to the frame, and lifted it on to the chassis, i made sure to have the steering column and transmission shift lever off, made easy work of it, about ten mins had it done, a great feeling of accomplishment at this point, having it been a bare frame for around 6 years without the tub on.
What an appropriate VE-Day 75th treat! Really nice job!! Btw, I have a '43 GPW that I plan to take out for the first time this weekend (for the season). V for victory and a salute to all those brave WWII veterans!
Did you know that all modern 4x4s can trace their lineage to the Willys Jeep? And did you know that the Wills Jeep can trace its lineage to the Austin 7 Motor car?
Greendot 319 absolutely perfect and a great insight to as they Would have sounded fresh out of the factory, I admire your enthusiasm and commitment to keeping these iconic vehicles alive, perfect job and extremely impressive
How is the cranking now after running the engine? Easier I suppose? How does the casing fit the Optima and with the cover on? I recently built one myself from MDF. I can send you pictures if you like. My address is gertjan.pruis@planet.nl
First start probably second or third start really as the exhaust manifold has already been heating up and paint has gone, first start was surely not as quick as mentioned - nice job this restoration
Yeah, mine doesn't sound anything like that........More like a VW without and exhaust and all the tappets out of adjustment.....With a bag of gravel bouncing around the fan shroud..... Come to think of it it doesn't even look the same....Maybe somebody bubba'd a vw motor in mine....
I sent my starter and generator away to be rebuilt at a local shop this morning
I'm very excited

Outstanding - first pluck, no choke or throttle! Congratulations.
It was keen to run again after it's long nap!
Whoa, you've done an amazing job. It really looks and sounds so good. Hats off to you my friend. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Glad you appreciate it Criss, they're a distinctive motor and I want to do justice to it!

Congratulations. It’s one of the most satisfying things to have an engine spring to life after you’ve put it back together.
i realize it is quite randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to watch new series online?
@Zayn Francis i dunno I use flixportal. Just search on google after it:P -jon
@Jon Roland Thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it !!

Did you know that all modern 4x4s can trace their lineage to the Willys Jeep? And did you know that the Wills Jeep can trace its lineage to the Austin 7 Motor car?
It was actually the Bantam Car Company. They got screwed over when the government started handing out contracts.
@@michaelwier1222 Bantam was the American subsidiary of Austin.
Congratulations Matt! She's beautiful and runs like a dream. Nice job! Hope you get the syncros lined out

Awesome! Way to go!
Thanks!
Can you please tell me what reference materials you use for the engine build please
Great! Bet you were well chuffed!
I was but was also instantly in listening for problems and problem solving mode!
@@Greendot319 I can relate to that! In any of my vehicles I will instantly notice if something doesn't sound right, I have a real ear for it.
Happy VE Day!
Cheers, you too
A Jeep is born

With difficulty, heat and penetrating oil, keep on repeating till you can get them to budge!
LOVE IT. Well done you
Thank you! Cheers!
is the cylinderhead for unleaded or do you use an additive?
Unleaded no additive, no one has reported problems with the L134 running unleaded fuel so far
When you decide to sell keep me in mind, please.
you'll need deep pockets!
Very nice
Is this the motor that u modified to chain driven.???
No, this is factory original chain timing chain ;)
@@Greendot319 thanks I've never seen a chain driven willys.
