Recently had a remodel done. Had the painter paint a handrail that was previously stained. We took the handrail off to change out the supports and found the painter didn’t finish painting the bottom… thin coat, brush marks, not sanded. He used the Emerald Urethane. I’ve sanded. Some primer shows, but no wood. Ready to paint, but want to avoid brush marks. Should I use Floetrol with this paint?
I paint for a living I like the Emerald version and behr makes one now and they're both pretty good I like to use them for the cabinets we brush and roll the regular parts of the cabinet inside but we take all the doors off and we spray them outside and the spray does make it lay like glass
Emerald Urethane is still an oil. Specifically its a urethane modified alkyd. It only resists yellowing, it can still yellow if there's no exposure to sunlight.
I’m picky, but I’m an amateur, so you’ve got me concerned about brush painting urethane. You mentioned using a sprayer instead. It would be great to hear what sprayer system and tips you’d recommend for doing new trim and how to set up a spray area in my garage.
Hello Guys - You both are amazing in explaining the paints and differences. Here is my requirement, I wanted to paint on the outer surface of the terracotta (earthen) coffee mug (smooth surface so far, Do I have sand? if yes what should be the grit/grade?), I have few queries - How could I make the paint on the mug microwave safe, food safe, dishwasher safe? so that paint persists as it is done for the first time. Do I have use any primer or wax coat(do I have sand?? what should be the grade?) before painting and last but not the least I want to present this paint with glass like transparent in appearance on top of the paint, do I have to use any sealant or resin coating on top of the paint (do I have to sand after painting too? grade??)? If yes what it should be? or paint alone is sufficient to help me accomplish the above features? How many times I have to sand? Thank you in advance. I can share the images of the material if you share your email id.
I'm wondering if this "urethane paint" formulation is same or similar to car paint? Can you thin/reduce this paint; or catalyze it (as they do for car paints)? Can you use the paint you are showcasing as car paint?
Your about 9 min in feel like your not going to say but what undercoater would you use and do you thin it out a bit or like to shoot it right out of the can .
You talked about the prep of this urethane trim enamel, what's the prep work of "ProClassic Interior Waterbased Acrylic-Alkyd" needed to paint over oil-based paint?
This is the first time I’m going to use the hp I loved the emerald . I will say one thing about how tough it is . I have a work van and the hood was pretty chipped up bad . Looked terrible showing up to jobs so I got some of the left over emerald I had in the garage and rolled it on the hood . I figured it couldn’t look worse than the bare hood showing ….. 2 years later it’s just now starting to chip . I will add I’m in TEXAS where it’s very very very very hot and humid and the sun beams on my hood from the morning till 8 pm making that hood extremely hot ….. I’m not covered at the house so it’s taken the heat . The rain , the ice we’ve been having and held up for 2 years . Another crazy thing is I never prepped the hood and didn’t even wash it I wanted it to be the worst conditions possible to see how it held up ….. emerald is another level man ……2 years no prep , dirty hood , direct sun , not covered parking , etc and it’s just now chipping off not to mention the majority of it over 90 percent is still holding up , I can’t even scratch it off I’ve dried . It’s on their …..
Hi! Would you save my life and tell me what are the brands of urethane paint I could find in France (or Europe generally)? Thanks! It seems to me the only "equivalent" product I can find is "polyurethane", which is used typically to paint the floor of a garage or a garden iron gate or things like that. This can't be the same, right?
Thanks for explain the paint propoties. I am planning to use PPG polyurethane paint to do a mural, it will need to look like a water color painting, so apart from brushing fast, is there anything else I should be aware of? Is it possible to add different colors on top of each other?
@@That1Painter Hey thank you! I am used to using sponge to create aging effect, but it doesn't work with PU paint. It will have to be sprayed. So that's a bit of a challenge.

The behr one is good too!
Sherwin williams super paint is the best to paint the exterior of your house. I painted mine 4 years ago and touch up matches perfectly. WOW
We love Superpaint for exteriors

true :)

Question, can you paint a urethane primer car paint (2k) over a tin/lead repair that is on the roof of a car ?
Lot's of great information, thank you! question: what sheen would you recommend for doors and trims in the Sherwin Williams emerald paint?
Satin or semi gloss

A airless sprayer with a 311 tip. Thanks for watching!
@@That1Painter is there a brand of sprayer you’d recommend? Thank you so much for replying!
@@sharonschieber Graco 390 is the best sprayer for $1000 you can pay a lot more for some but this one is phenomenal.
I 2nd the 390. I have 4 of them. I like the Graco fine finish tips and I like 308 or 310 tips for trim with Emerald Urethane.

Same prep just more is needed with the weaker paint like the enamels ect
If painting over oils or varnish you need to sand with 150 grit or 180. In the case of cabinets we still prime for safety

Is it Emerald Urethane or Emerald exterior paint?
What would be the best type of primer and paint to use for a corrugated galvanized metal building?
DTM primer and paint.
@@That1Painter would that be oil based, latex, or acrylic?

my goto for painting cabinets is pigmented lacquer....no paint even compares
Should you prime with a urethane
Yes always prime wood surfaces before using an enamel top coat!
What is the best way to sand trim and doors? Sander or hand sand?
Depends on the door and what you are trying to accomplish
Just built a bench for the patio area. Want to have white glossy finish. What would you recommend?
Absolutely.
The Emerald Urethane would work for that
Can we use these on exterior windows
Yes
You could yes but All Surface Enamel may be better for that purpose
The Emerald product sheet says it is a waterbased urethane modified alkyd
cool
What primer do u use with the enamel?
Where are you trying to primer? That's the real question
Over oak cabinets. They are stained and have varnish
We use SW extreme block oil based primer
@@That1Painter so the enamel will stick to oil?
@@kylehomewood3169 yes any paint will stick to any primer.
I used valspar D/T oil enriched enamel and I can scuff it just by looking at it. It's horrible paint
