Just watch where lights are and which modifiers. Who cares about Paul Buff. Let them make their own videos. I don’t need to have you tell me what you buy
Interesting lens choice. Looks like the standard 100 f/2.8 macro. I looked at the shots in the article and they were beautiful. I shoot Sony now but one of my all time favorite lenses is the Canon 135 f/2 , just an amazing lens at a great price.

Very poor video in fact. Talking a lot without giving information about the setup itself. All the photographers know profoto by now. In my opinion the title doesn't match the content in the video.

Thanks Profoto for the info. However, as an individual video on TH-cam it doesn't work. Watch as a photographer who sees its title and get excited that "I'm going to see a useful video" but the fact is the video don't give you any valuable information. Don't get me wrong I like profoto products. That's my opinion!
Beautiful ! Great video. Maybe you should have mentioned in the video to go and look on the website for more info on the light setups :) Differences are very clear and I could clearly identify 5 different light setups in the final images. Congratulations to Miss Vanon. I will definetly try this at home 👍
Hi please help me with one question .i want to know if profoto b 10 can be used with one continuous light like nanlite or aputure 120d for fill light and background light ? And which continuous light is better ? Nanlight 150 / auture 120dThe purpose of shoot is portraits and fashion . Thanks
make the video 6 minutes instead of 3 and give some meaningful information in it. this looked like a commercial. video filmed very well, model is stunning, photographer has great work, lights are great.. just work on better content.
Thank you for your comment. This video is a part of an article, so please read the full story at profoto.com/int/profoto-stories/six-setups-for-beauty-lighting for detailed descriptions and lighting diagrams of each setup.

Interesting, and I like the set ups and all. But I was a little curious about the fact that if she is a "premier" fashion photographer (which I don't doubt), with the camera she is using, and considering how much it costs for Profoto gear, then why isn't she using L glass? She can afford it after all. But I am going to have to try some of these set ups for myself (with less expensive gear).

Beautiful models beautiful shots, soft light feel. Many other ways to achieve similar effect using different light modifiers, reflectors, v-flaps, panels, etc. this is just one approach., don't need 10k worth of flash, better to invest more in glass.
These pictures look good, but I doubt the video is very helpful for a beginner trying to figure out how to create similar looks. Also, my initial impression is that, while the lighting is certainly lovely, all six lighting setups look pretty much alike, i.e. soft and beautiful. Use a soft light as your main source and maybe add some accent lights...I guess that's the takeaway.

Beginner? She is using $10K worth of Profoto lights! There is no beginner here.... the only photographer who would watch this video is someone who could not afford to step into this realm.. just sayin'.
Prestige Photo; there is no requirement to purchase $10K worth of Profoto lights to replicate this effect. You can easily purchase a far cheaper solution and do the EXACT same thing.
NewGuy G But there are not cheaper options in the video. 4x D2's = $7990 AIR TTL = $419 Beauty dish = $418 Taxes and softboxes, well over $10K I use Profoto. I love Profoto. But if you have $10K of lights and TTL, you should be able to get nice, soft, flat light. In auto mode. Same lighting as a Fongdong
Sorry for the confusion. Several people reacted the same way. This video is a part of an article, so please read the full story at profoto.com/int/profoto-stories/six-setups-for-beauty-lighting for detailed descriptions and lighting diagrams of each setup.
Very nicely filmed, lovely light and amazing shots as always by Rosella! The blog is great and gives all the information a photographer needs to know about each lighting set-up. Good job!
How come Jerry Ghionis does make such beautiful wedding pics with any of these artificial lights. Does that mean that he is a master, and these guys depend on lights?
Vanon obviously gets nice and varied results. But, the video fails to communicate to the viewer how she did it because it leaves out diagrams of the light setups. That misses the whole point of a tutorial. The video and audio are stylishly done. Alas, the key content is missing; style over substance doesn't cut it.
Hi Mark, In the video description there is a link to the full story, which contains lighting diagrams of all the different setups. profoto.com/int/profoto-stories/six-setups-for-beauty-lighting
The more tutorials I see the better my understanding is that lady photographers simply do not know how and when to use artificial lights LOL Even the most famous and recognizable ladies photogs are the same way... Don't get me wrong. The pictures are great, but they heavily rely on beauty of their models, quality of makeup, concepts of their shoots and final retouching of the images. Especially retouching!
I like the photography but this is an advertisement not a tutorial. The title is misleading. This is not how you build followers or support on TH-cam guys.

Very nice lighting. The lady knows what she's doing.
Just tell us in the title “this is a commercial and not an instruction video!”.
Paul C Buff wins my business again! 😛
Sorry to hear that
Just watch where lights are and which modifiers. Who cares about Paul Buff. Let them make their own videos. I don’t need to have you tell me what you buy
Love the video. Very good instructor. Love photography and I try to keep up with some of the technology changes.

Awesome. Love the video. Hope you have the instructor again.
This just payed promotion video for the lights.
Not even once did she talk about how she is using the light.

The article doesn't allow the video to go full screen, which is why everyone ends up here.
Love the writeup! very nicely written!

Rossella, your images are just exquisite. Beautiful light, pose, model and post. Just wonderful. Bravo.

Beautiful lighting and color tone photography
Hmmm...nice results but it feels like the title should be "six setups to create one similar look".

Very nice and well done tutorial about lighting. Thanks.

I was looking for more insight. Instead, this was a three-minute ad for Profoto lights.
Were did you get the supports for the reflector boards ? if you dont mind me asking.
Lovely images, Thank you.
Skip to about 2:20 to see the strobes and modifies used. (Don't bother though, because there's no actual lighting diagrams)
so over the top lighting any yet i can shoot this with one softbox and a reflector

Who cares. Just buy whats in your budget and thank profoto for making lighting video
Maybe add a lighting diagram while showing the result would be very helpful
This was merely an informercial for profoto. They didn't even show u how they did the set ups. Psh

Thank you
I love this color of background - anyone know whats this background?
It's sort of an egg shell...
Step 1: get a beautiful person... And swipe fast through the other steps 😉😊
that beat tho... what track is this?
I made it a bit over halfway through before giving up. This really doesn't appear to be anything more than an advertisement for Profoto.
Beautiful models beautiful shots, soft light feel.
Many other ways to achieve similar effect using different light modifiers, reflectors, v-flaps, panels, etc. this is just one approach., don't need 10k worth of flash, better to invest more in glass.
How many lenses does one need to make a headshot or head and shoulders shot?
These pictures look good, but I doubt the video is very helpful for a beginner trying to figure out how to create similar looks. Why? Its easy as fuck. Softboxes are easy and you can see here how they were setup.
the video was very fast speed and im confused and not clear setups
theres a little setup lightning in your commercial
This was not instruction it was a commercial. Zero lighting setup were explained.
Sorry for the confusion. Several people reacted the same way. This video is a part of an article, so please read the full story at profoto.com/int/profoto-stories/six-setups-for-beauty-lighting for detailed descriptions and lighting diagrams of each setup.
Is this a tutorial or an ad ?
She used 85mm lens?
100mm 2.8
Was expecting to see setups
Several lenses, one is your ' goto' lense the other is a. backup lens.
Very nicely filmed, lovely light and amazing shots as always by Rosella! The blog is great and gives all the information a photographer needs to know about each lighting set-up. Good job!
Если модель красивая, то как поставлен свет уже не так уж и важно)
Noting special here...would probably looked better with Elinchrom light modifiers.
Probably wouldn't be any difference.

Hi Mark,
In the video description there is a link to the full story, which contains lighting diagrams of all the different setups.
profoto.com/int/profoto-stories/six-setups-for-beauty-lighting
Thank you for pointing me to that link. That's what I was looking for and it's very informative.
It's nothing but a commercial for profoto
More like "advertisement for beauty lighting"
just an ad for profoto
cool!!!!
Excellent tribute to her EGO and how to do the same pic with a bunch of accesories ..
It's just a commercial. With such a short running time, it would be hard to squeeze in the lighting type and placement.
какое ахерительное качество картинки
I like the photography but this is an advertisement not a tutorial. The title is misleading. This is not how you build followers or support on TH-cam guys.
we get that we can take great photos with $20,000 in profoto equipment. show us the lighting set ups.
thanks for 3 min ad
Too many lights they make the model look flat since there aren't any shadows.
Make up sometimes is used to create depth and shadows.
i thought this would be a tutorial video not a commercial :/
Great shots but poor video. There is little information as how the light were being used. Simply dropping part numbers does not do the magic.
Vanon ... sounds almost like Canon. lol
Yawn, hey what time is it? 1am?
Реклама техники. Паршивое видео
Learnt nothing. She uses proFoto D2s, did she mention she uses ProFoto D2s. She uses ProFoto D2s
Average photos no tutorials all images look the same
that's an ad
Wow you really didn't explain even one thing about light set up. Title of the video is a total bait and switch, I'll never get that time back 😡
Where are the diagrams, the setup, ratio, feathering, and pretty much everything apart promoting the brand. #dissapointed.
可能性を感じる
This is really bad. It is a commercial for Profoto. I know it is solid gear.
This is just an advert...
SUPER. SUPER , THE BEST
நன்றாக இருக்கிறது வாழ்த்துக்கள் R.MANOHAR-CHENNAI
this video was devoid of almost any useful information. this literally didn't reveal anything about actual setups. just profoto pandering.
Thank you for your comment. This video is a part of an article, so please read the full story at profoto.com/int/profoto-stories/six-setups-for-beauty-lighting for detailed descriptions and lighting diagrams of each setup.
Dont share ur lighting ideas. Keep it in ur head. Good luck
fail
Clickbait
more teaching and less promotion please
Didn't explain a damn thing
Just a commercial...nothing to see here.
Bad production on this one
Were the f.... are the setup? Is just a profoto commercial......shame on you

This is just a fucking ad
Que de la frime. On n'apprend rien.
Pointless, waste of time...
Thanks for sharing the video. In terms of fashion industry, this video is old-fashion tutorial. Too much lightning (unnecesarilly) and over-retouched.
So she has all this expensive light but can't shoot with L glass? smh tbh fam
You dont need profoto or expensive lenses to make good photos. Quantuum/Godox is enought.
that is such a noob photographer
As opposed to your work? Your best doesn't touch her worst...
just wasted 3min of my life.
Absolutely boring result.
