  • Wood arrows really aren't as complicated as people make it out to be. The hardest part is knowing what spine to shoot but thanks to the internet you can use a spine calculator on 3riversarchery.com Yes there are fancier ways to build some woodies but this will help get your feet wet. Be sure to check out all of our products on omnivoresquivers.com

Totally inspired me to make my own wood arrows after finishing my 1st bow. I can't believe how much more fun and satisfying it is to shoot arrows I've made.
    Thank you

Sighting down an arrow shaft for straightness is ingrained in our dna for sure. And then bending it into shape. Cool stuff and motions.

I have yet to make my own wooden arrows, or own any. I love watching people make them from scratch though, it looks like a blast.

I take a 5/16 tap and tap out my field points and broadheads and you don't need glue to atach them. just screw them on and they don't fall off

Should I treat the shafts with linseed oil before or after attaching the fletching?

I shoot bananas on my woods also. Mainly cut from wild turkey. However, I am at 60-65 and still a little weak with 125 up front.(frustrating). I use minwax red mahogany stain and wipe on poly. The duco sticks feathers solid. I simply leave jig sit in living room and add a fletch when I walk through. One before work, after work, before bed, etc. Great video

The ""flames" you're referring to are the grain runout. You don't want that in your arrows, but if there is, yo definitely need to set it the right way on the arrow shaft.

If bareshaft tuning do you just keep removing and cutting off point end?

How heavy of a broadhead would you use to shoot with 55-60 lbs long bow?

I shoot a 300 grain broadhead and a 200 grain insert. I also have a lot of tuning experience. I would suggest at least a 150

You: This is the boring part.
Me: I knock out 25 to 50 at a time while watching videos or movies. Well used to, its been 15 years sense I made any arrows. I've been living in Germany for the last 10 years and bow hunting isn't a normal thing here. Plus getting a hunting license just for a gun is a pain in the you know what for someone that is a citizen let alone someone that lives here with a visa. You have to belong to a Schützenverein "shooting club" and it takes 5 years of being in the club before you can even take the written test and another 2 to 3 years before you can take the shooting test for your license. That's just for your gun shooting license, after that it takes another 2 years to take the written test for Bow and another 2 years for your bow hunting license test. And hunting here is nothing like it is back in the states. Its all about ceremony and such before and after the hunt. and its only on certain land and you have to be invited to take part. it would actually be much easier for you to be able to hunt here then it would be for me.
After chopping banana cuts use a marker on the very tip of the rib of the fletching to denote what is the front or back end so you don't get the direction mixed. if you plan on doing a mass chopping i would just get an ink pad and lightly touch the tip to the pad, that's what I used to do if the flight was the same looking at both ends.
Personally not a fan of cemeterial flights. My personal favorite is the 3Rivers Fantasy 5" 29b. unfortunately its left wing only so not one you would use.

Building arrows and assembling arrows is two different things. YOU ARE ASSEMBLING ARROWS. DON'T CONFUSE THE TWO. you don't manufacture anything. You merely assemble the components. FAR EASIER THAN ANYTHING ELSE, THAT COULD BE CONSIDERED BUILDING OR MANUFACTURING .
