the 928 is very impressive. especially the early sohc/non detonating 4.5 liter... almost bulletproof once gone through.... ive seen so many 928 cars, sat neglected for over 10 plus years... fire immediately.... so impressive... also chassis is double sided galvanized, and aluminum skins... hard to rust them out... so easy to work on.... simple German brilliance... get them while they are below $10,000 now
This is a year old, but I don't see any other comments telling you this: The neutral safety switch runs through the spare tire well. There's a plastic panel against the forward side of the well in the corner, behind it are two Molex connectors. The three-wire Molex is the one. If that connector gets squirrelly, it will cause a no-start. Try wiggling it and giving it a good shot of Deoxit. If that doesn't work, there is a way to jumper it.

I live about 40 miles east of Cincinnati, and when I saw your first video of this car, I just shook my head. And a day or two later, I was on the freeway headed towards Cincinnati, and I was only about 8 miles from home, and I passed this same exact car. It looked and ran like new. I did a double take, wish I had thought to get a pic, for you, but I think I was just so surprised and caught off guard, I didn't think about it.

I also appreciate the timeline, ie get it done by yesterday, that helpful strangers on the internet help set for me for my property. It means so much! Ps… I’d rather have a grassy yard than a wisteria jungle one 😅

No crank might be the starter relay #14 under the plywood in the passenger floor. Plug the one under the hood back in then jump terminal 30 to 87 on the fuse panel. If still no crank it may be the neutral switch on the side of the trans. Your alternator may just need a regulator which is easy and relatively cheap. Good luck.

Have you checked the Gas, you reay don't want old gas going in the motor. Sometimes if your not a Mechanic then you usually not see what your looking for.
From a car that looks like it came form a junk yard, to something that will run?? impressive. wondering if there is a way, to get parks form junk yards, like seats and other things, and just spruce it up enough to see it, as a restore?? and use the money for the Old Byrd Farm??Also friends like that, that owe you money and don't repay their debt, to you in a more fashionable time frame are really no friends, all I'm saying. My distant cousin up in South Carolina has one, that he restore some time ago.
@@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG My husband was listening to this and he used to work on Porsche cars. He said it could be a poor contact on the start position on the ignition switch. It has contact through the ignition switch on the run position and the pre-ignition sound where the starting fluid was exploding in the cylinders could have cracked the pistons. He said starting fluid is for Diesel engines. Porsches are not built for that. Should have sprayed gas (fuel) which is a lot less volatile than starting fluid. But he figured you already knew that by your disclaimers . All the best.
@@TheGoodHeart1000 Pinging can cause that, but not that short amount of time. But starting fluid is bad, bad for most Diesel engines unless specifically recommended. It’s not designed for diesels at all 🫣
@@edwinthompson6510 With adaption and a endless bank account , Would look kind of goofy with a water cooled V8 stuck way out the back. Could put the radiator up front next to the gas tank or on top of the car. lol.
I don't know about that car but some cars you have to have y our foot on the brake to start them. In later years VW has become so complicated they are no longer fun to work on.

Starting fluid will not hurt a gasoline engine but will do damage to a diesel if to much is injected

I am not a car nut, but my Chevy Park/Neutral safety switch was on the tranny, not the lever.
I was under the transmission and didn’t see one there either - but I could’ve missed it. On the transmission side of things it is definitely in park
