I've not seen a boat so well designed for the Arctic since Roald Amundsen went on his explorations. My only concern would be you that aluminum is a heat superconductor... That may mean that she gets mighty cold in the ice seas.
If you are worried about backing the boat around from the lift, next time, just ask the lift operator to turn the boat around before dropping you back into the water. That's what I always did. If the lift only works in one direction on the dock (unlikely), pick the boat up from the other end.
I bought a yacht a year ago, it was on land for more than 3 years. Before that, nothing is known. The first descent to the water was just stress. Little leak, up some seal and once again ... first engine start, first rudder deflection... I've done it a thousand times, but on my own yacht that you don't know anything about, it's something special. Who has not experienced it will not appreciate. Good film. Two engines is something I dream about, but on 40feet boat, not possible.
Love the flag dipping. My Dad had fun doing the same on our small scruffy Yacht as we passed a big Naval ship. You could follow the order from the bridge being handed down through the ranks until it got to the Ordinary Seaman at the stern….such fun
The twin screws also allow you to "walk" the boat sideways. Done it lots. Set the rudders and differential power to walk the stern and bow sideways. It's fun and useful when you get used to it. You will need to use more forward power than you'd expect due to the small rudders. Less so in reverse. You have an awesome vessel there.
Arktika sure is an amazing ship. I am so looking forward to the next adventure. Wow! Epic drone shot to wrap up this video. We love you too Juho as well as Sohvi :p Thanks for sharing!
Love the Ketch type boats, and what makes this even more amazing it has sales, and a metal hull for safer travel in cold temps and icy conditions. You just need to ad solar panels to be even more self sufficient. Just love this boat so much, so many things you two can do with it, you both care about the sea, and planet you could make a difference with this new boat and this platform to share with everyone.
Well Sophie is a darling, but it is more that she says sensible things like, “its midnight, can we go back to the boat now?” And then sticks around when you say “there are so many more berries to pick”. You’ve got to admire that.
manoeuvres with 2 engines in that configuration in tight spaces is very very good. Once you get used to the "caterpillar" method (using opposing thrusts) you will be able to 360 on the spot.
Thanks so much for another fun field trip! Fantasic drone shot for someone who never sees the sea! Looking forward to your winter fun as our prairie blizzards blow!
For what’s it’s worth , run/draw some oil through the oil change pump system. As diesel will eat away at o rings and lines not rated as such. Stay safe & God bless 🤜
Enjoying your videos and love the ship. My great great grandfather was a member of the Fram crew there is a museum in Tromsø that I've visited, looks close to where you were with your ship. Good luck with your journeys.
New person here... I love the boat! Looks to me as though you have plenty to learn but what a great opportunity! Doesn't matter to me who owns the boat or how it's supported. If you have a love for sailing, you have a great boat and you have a structured plan that you're happy with... things just couldn't be better! Thanks for including all of us in your adventures. I look forward to your next video. Blessings and prayers to you all!
Great to see you guys moving up in your dreams, looks like a cool, but very complicated boat. We have been travelling many of the same areas as you guys this year, and it has been wonderful to watch your videos, showing places we haven’t made it to, in the same areas. All the best on your trip, looks epic, and a lot of fun. Take a sewing machine with you, you can make new clothes over winter. All the best, The sewing machine guy. Sailing Tess Bess
Awesome and amazing sailing grounds, we look forward to your adventures, from a man who sails an alloy yacht and has survived being crushed in the Antarctic pack in an alloy, they are tuff. Fairs winds
It is not diesel but algae or pollen. It's OK for you to think that it might be diesel, but it would be more respectful to comment something like "Hey, I noticed this streak on the water, could it be diesel?", instead of jumping into wrong assumptions
Great video, you are both a great couple! What a purposeful boat, I think boats with a distinct purpose are really special and she is special. I have also had a bilge full of diesel when a filter bowl cracked open, just horrible. Fair travels and looking forward to the next video.
Good clean fun. Now onto more fun and excitement with the worlds most incredible Off Piste skiing! 🇮🇸 ⛷ in a French monster of a boat. Crushing it. Exciting times ahead. 100 turns:) can't wait for the incredible footage!!
Congratulations on living the dream! You are an inspiration and we wish you good fortune in all your adventures! I'm very very fond of the Arctic circle, we've traveled for a few days to Tromso and got to see the whales feeding out at sea as well as the northern lights and I'm hoping to tour Svalbard one day on a boat just like yours
Trolling the King of Norway eh! :-) Another good one is when approaching another yacht in a waterway, wait until then are looking at you then slowly pretend to wave at them but turn it into scratching the back of your head or something ;-)
Congratulations to both of you and the crew for your a successful launch. Can't quite make out timeline between you purchasing / moving aboard the boat and launching. You've probably got more of us interested in boat particulars than skiing videos; but I'll watch anything you put out - always good quality, beautiful, and interesting. I'll buy you both a beer or two through PayPal sometime, but for now I am bleeding money on life raft, new AIS, et al and budgeting to get my boat off to the Sea of Cortez in November for the next year or two. It's become a conundrum to decide how to support the many worthy TH-cam sailing channels I enjoy. Fair winds.
I couldn't really get a feel for Arktika's lines in the first video, but hanks to your awesome drone shots I can see she is beautiful. I hope you enjoy sailing her. Safe journeys (I think you have the right boat for that)
Congratulations on the new boat. She's what I consider the perfect long range cruising boat. I own a long range cruising Yacht as well, but not as nicely thought out as yours. I look forward to following your future exploits as I am expecting to cruise to the north sea and Baltic regions myself.
So happy for you both being able to start a new adventure! I hope you'll have more time to really enjoy yourselves now that you got the ship running and out of dock. I send you my best wishes from Arizona, USA!
Glad she was more manoeuvrable than you expected, Bette that way than the opposite. I imagine you are learning more about the boat every day, what works and what what doesn’t. Exciting plans and I look forward to the next video. Cheers Juno. Andy UK
Looking forward to follow your future adventures. There is no other Chanel as yours so im sure it Will grow a lot. Fair winds and thank you for sharing your way of life.
I am enjoying your adventures very much! Discovered your channel just recently when you bought the boat in S.California. Now going back over your older videos. Well done!
Wow so very happy for you an Artika beautiful vessel bigger than the other an so sturdy.... Excited for the journey!!! No I enjoy you both.... Brilliant!!! ✌🏻💗☺️❣️
Looking forward to seeing the new adventures with this boat. Give yourself sometime too know the boat and in no time you will know her like the back of your hand.
Well done, gentlemen! What a maze of valves, pumps, and filters. Also a very good job on extracting arktikka (spelling?) from a very tight spot with wind and too many new controls and no keel. Very impressive.
I would also like to say that you motor sailboat, looks to be a well built boat. With a little work & getting to know the boat, I bet your going to have a lot of fun filled voyages in the future.
Watching from North Western Australia , travelled around Iceland and fell in love with the place. Was heading to Norway before COVID decided to join the population..Hopefully get over soon.. Looking forward to seeing your travels 🌈
A few years back, I had seen a video of this boat shining and it looked amazing...! Very cosy and yet looking tuff too...:) Now though...unrecognisable...! Hope you do your best for her...!
Hey everyone and thanks for watching! Any questions or comments? I'd love to hear them! Remember to subscribe to follow the journey :)
I can translate the Technical French text if you need it. PM me.
How does it feel to finally be on your way in ur New sailing vessel?? Is it more than u expected??
What did you do with the spilled diesel? I've had this problem before and struggled with it.
@@pipersnuki took it to the problem waste station, there's one in each town in Norway :)

Yeah I bet they get annoyed by people doing that.. but that's maybe exactly why we like doing it! :D
@@AlluringArctic there are Urban Myth type stories of people in small sailing dinghies doing it to aircraft carriers
I loved the no nonsense attitude to simply get into the water and sail. Enjoy the journey!

Excellent. This boat is magic. So cool thanks.
Love the flag salute! great to keep old school naval traditions; well done!

That is the coolest expedition sailboat on youtube! Congrats!
Wow! Wow! I can’t wait til the adventures begin. Actually, they’ve begun already! What fun!!
thanks Jonathan, glad to have you along!
quite a beautiful boat you got there. Safe travels.
You're a legend. Good luck!
Thanks Stewart and thanks for following along!
This is just outstanding...
This is magic and your videos, scenary, music and lovely Arktika makes me just happy and relaxed. You are the lucky ones!

Way to go guys!
Really happy for you and your new adventure beast:)
Out of all the sailing channels I love this boat the best. Solid as and no frills.
I noticed this boat in Bodø a few weeks ago while we were waiting for the weather. It has a look you remember. 🙂
Awesome, congrats on getting her in the water
