hi, Glad to see the Geraniums are sprouting, they are also one of my favorites, come late fall, I dig them up & take all blooms off & store them in brown paper bags & place in basement where its dark & much cooler , then early spring I pot them up indoors water & light near kitchen window, they really do great, saves a lot of money , not to have to buy plants again, good luck & I enjoyed your video, Happy gardening, Ann from Ohio
@@MonicaKatieI don’t have a basement so we created an above ground root cellar with refrigerator building panels and it stayed above freezing. Last I checked they were ok but a little bit of mold as we have a moisture issue. We had to cap the vent with that subzero week and probably need to add another vent. Hopefully they make it.
Planted swallowtail geraniums and petunias last year. Last frost 5/12. Started 2/18 and 3/23(coral) and the first set needed up potted by March 12. They all grew rather quickly and late ship coral all caught up to each other. The light pink geranium seemed to be the weakest in growth throughout growing season here. Also planted white, Apple blossom and what was suppose to be coral but was more red/orange-they resent coral because what happened is I had them in my cart to order and ‘Laura’ viewed them on her video and they were sold out. So I waited and they were back in again, but they weren’t Coral! 🙄. Hopefully I have the coral now. I didn’t cover geranium seeds as they need light to germinate just like petunias. I also held off until this last weekend to plant them as I had a jungle last year. Lol, but now that I’m reviewing journal I see maybe I didn’t wait long enough as geraniums were two different dates and I seemed to be in the middle of both.😂. Cabin fever 😊 It’s crazy warm here this winter in WI and hard to figure what to expect, but suppose will stick with June 1st as close to safe for transplanting as last year we had a freeze on last weekend of May. It was devastating because of the heat and advanced growth on many plants. We are hitting 70s when we should be 30s. I’m trying to overwinter geraniums and they looked ok last I seen. The mosquito bits if laid on top of soil will mold, not sure about mixing them in. The trick is to dip the toothpick in water then pick up tiny seed on a plate or bowl. Helps to try to isolate a seed on the plate as sometimes more than one clings. I had a terrible time last year winter sowing because of heat, this year is worse. So I only did a few and set them on east side of house. Lucky I kept a few seeds from Swallowtail last year of sea Holly, Veronica and Russian sage. Happy to report after refrigerating those packets I have some sea holly, sage and scabiosa up in 3 days 👏🏼👏🏼. The Veronica I was disappointed in because the seeds looked like dust instead of seeds-we will see😏. Suppose I better get rudbeckia and snaps planted. Was going to wait a bit in hopes to heat the greenhouse when it’s steadily warmer. Right now we are on some kind of fair ride with these temperatures-Never Ever experienced this kind of weather. It’s making it tricky to garden. And I’m worried about the fruiting and ornamental plants. Your seedlings look Great and they will be very nice and big geraniums!😊
So far my geraniums are just starting to set out their first true leaf, so fingers crossed they will not need to be potted up until mid-April. I may need to restart two of the apple blossom as they look very weak. I thought I heard in another video that the salmon is the peachy colored one while the coral was a brighter? I want a soft peach color so hopefully the salmon will be what I expect. Yes, the weather is tricky these past couple of years which is making winter sowing more difficult. Happy Gardening. 😊
@@MonicaKatie yes, the salmon is more muted. The coral should be the bright orangey peach, not the glaring red orange I received. On news there was an orchard owner and he is nervous if this weather doesn’t cool down. The buds are swelling and not opened yet thankfully, but we are expecting rain and that could do it. I trimmed off a small limb of sugar n spice shrub, stuck it in with others I’m propagating and it’s leafed out in a couple days time. The people who work with snow lost and now this weather is threatening food. Just a bit nervous.😟

I’m also over wintering several geraniums that I’ve had for a few years. So easy to just put them in a paper bag in the basement. Happy gardening 😊

Holy moly, you have so much starting! So exciting!!
This is very different for me as I am more familiar with winter sowing and not having to check on seedlings everyday. I think this may get tiring. 😆
@@MonicaKatie you've definitely got a big job ahead! Get ready!!
I love these seed starting trays!! Im using the 24 cell tray for the second year.
Thanks! So far they are working out nicely. I will be going away in a few weeks so these will come in handy.
Just beautiful 😍
Thank you! 😊

Put saliva on the end of your toothpick. You will then be able to pick them up one at a time.
😆 I kinda felt weird doing that but I'll try it next time.
