      Planted, dianthus, Delphiniums, larkspur and bachelor buttons. I also broadcast some foxglove seeds incase the ones sewn early in the summer don't survive the winter.

      I would love to see you identify which perennial plants should be cut-back now and which should be cut-back in Spring. I think that would be very helpful to me. Thank you again, DA

      Helenium and rebekia, do i need to keep them in greenhouse over winter or plant them out once big enough. North uk, very windy just like your weather.

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would overwinter them in a greenhouse or similar personally - especially the helenium since they’re hardiness is a bit touch-and-go

      Thanks very much! I know that music is a bit of a love/hate thing for viewers, but I like adding something that gives a feeling to the video over-and-above what I'm talking about.

    Looks like you all are going into Autumn 🍂 very soon. We are still in the 90's and escaping indoors by 10a.m when the heat and humidity are stifling.
    Take care of yourself 🌿💚🌿

    Thanks for the video Niall & Rachel. I know what to do with the primroses (thanks Rachel!) but should the others be sown/kept outdoors or under cover? Any advice greatly appreciated. I’m also in Ireland.

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So glad you enjoyed it - for things like hardy annuals, they’ll be absolutely fine outside over winter in an Irish climate. For other plants, I always think that if you have the ability to provide them with some kind of shelter and protection it’ll be to their benefit since the plants will be small - a cold frame is ideal. Hope this helps!

      Oh that’s such a good question! I’m afraid I think it’s going to be a case of manually removing it and sticking with it and hopefully over time you’ll get on top of it. Apologies because I know how frustrating that particular weed can be!

    Hi Nial, great video so informative!
    I've had good success with sea holly
    Cornflowers , marigolds and larkspur , the seedlings are quite large but do I plant them out now into the garden bed or keep them in a greenhouse ? I'm in Ireland also.

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the late reply! You may have already found an answer by now, but I'd recommend keeping them under cover for the winter, whether that's a greenhouse or cold frame, etc... then harden them off next spring 👍

  • @jeffreyrossi5084
    @jeffreyrossi5084 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great suggestions for seed planting., I have or have grown most of them. The monarda, do you have problems with powdery mildew where you are? It would seem you would have too there unless you grow the newer varieties maybe. I have always grown the old heirloom tall one that I can't give up because of the way it stretches' upwards with its cat-in-the-hat layers of blooms.

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny, I do have some mildew problems with them! But same as yourself, I think they’re totally worth it - the flowers are just out of this world aren’t they?!
