It's really rare when I see journalists, reviewers and youtubers go over post-game content in Kirby games, which is where the real challenges and tough fights are in, while this game has been the one that pushes the post game the most in the series, I still get the sense most people don't deep dive and complete it
The fun in kirby games is the completion. theyre all easy games to run through, but trying to complete each level perfectly is always my favorite part. Especially in the post game. You should try out Kirby Planet Robobot if you liked Forgotten Land
On the surface this game's world definitely does seem post-apocalyptic, but as someone who's played the entire story, I'm not so sure. Obviously mild spoilers ahead, but certain dialogue at the end of the game seems to imply that the people of the world just abandoned it after gaining certain powers, and the animals were left behind to eventually form the Beast Pack.
This game's been a really nice way to relax recently. I only wish it was 60 fps, but otherwise it looks, sounds, and plays great. Now Donkey Kong needs the same treatment with his own modern 3D platformer!

Kirby has always been a game, for me, that anyone can jump in and have a good time with. Everyone can play at least most of the game without issue. Unless you're not very good or familiar with platformer beat 'em ups.
Really loving Kirby so far, I'm playing it but its easy enough for my non-gamer girlfriend to hop in and play. She loves Kirby so I'll be playing through again with her. Also - DK Tropical Freeze is HARD Matty. It ain't just you
The funny thing about Star Allies is that, despite everyone calling it way too easy, it actually has what's probably the hardest post-game in the series.

The post-game presents a challenge, and some of the treasure roads toward the end of the game are pretty rough. Sakurai created Kirby AND Smash Bros, as well.
Masahiro Sakurai created both Kirby and Smash Bros. so he probably actually brought over a lot of Kirby to Smash because that was where his experoence was
Smash Brothers owes A LOT of its design to the Kirby games. Kirby Super Star in particular. The way moves work, bosses like Master Hand are just Wham Bam, the shield comes from mirror ability, the whole idea of characters being flung off stages was an idea originally planned for early Kirby, etc etc. The way smash plays honestly is influenced by Kirby games. Sakurai himself is a big fighting game fan and put movesets into Kirby Super Star because of that. Then he just used that action platforming foundation to make a action platform fighter. If folks who play smash brothers insist they never play Kirby games then have I got news for smash fans. They have been playing a Kirby game essentially lol
@@Murr248 Not really a problem to me lol I’m a huge Kirby fan and I feel his titles are some of the most defining and nostalgic so I’m still into it. Dreamland 1 was my first Kirby game so when I saw it was the game in the gameboy stage I flipped. It was still awesome. Besides he had considered Epic Yarn but unfortunately Yoshi Yarn was out by then so GCO was just put together after. Still there is more music. New final smashes , and spirits so I’m okay with it. Maybe next time. Maybe if Bandana Waddle Dee Had won then poll it would have helped but no way BWD beating Sora, Steve, etc. sadly. Maybe next time! If there is one.
@@MegaKirbySuperstar Yarn Yoshi wasn't out by then. It was a year later. Which only adds to the frustration in my opinion. Mario gets content from games that release nearly years later while Kirby has 3 versions of Green Greens. There are some tracks from the modern games, but these are overall easily ported MP4's in comparison to Super star always getting remixes. Kawasaki becoming and assist over a character like Taranza or Susie is incredibly insulting as well. If they really had to add a different stage in place of Epic Yarn, why not add Another Dimension when it's far more important than either Green Greens 3 or the most hated stage in the game. Wooly World ended up not returning in Ultimate anyways, but Yoshi, once again got content from an unreleased game at the time because of his Crafted World skin. Lots of people are simply upset with Bandana Dee not being playable and while I agree he's certainly deserving of it at this point, the Kirby series in general needs fixing up. With Super Star, Adventure, and Dreamland getting the actual content while anything else modern (Besides Squeak Squad of all games) getting essentially breadcrumbs and the bare minimum in comparison
@@Murr248 Yarn Yoshi was already in development tho even prior to that. Remixes aren't a big deal IMHO that's up the composers who choose what they want to remix as this was stated about the hype around Castlevania music so not really Sakurai's fault there. I doubt Sakurai himself alone picks all the spirits either. Im sure he has teams or consults the developers for that. There is new music and that's good enough for me. Also can't really compare Mario getting stuff to Kirby. Mario is WAAAY BIGGER then Kirby so that makes sense. Mario can sell over 20m while most Kirby games aside a very few titles and Star Allies, sell a little under 2m. More ppl especially in Japan know who Kawasaki is from the Kirby cafe and anime then know Susie so that makes sense to me. Also Sakurai is a huge part of why Kirby exists and exists today. If he wants to indulge a bit and do a Marx boss fight, I'm into it. Also the fact he considered a new stage at all tells me there was potential for other Kirby content. Also I know he owns the new Kirby games, has spoken out congratulating the release of Forgotten Lands, has gone to Kirby events still, and we know from Shinya Kumazaki that he has asked a previous director for advice on how to appeal to long time fans. Kumazaki himself doesn't seem to have beef with Sakurai as I see him liking Sakurai's Instagram posts and in recent interviews he credits Kirby's Adventure for the story structures in the modern games. He's quite inspired by him. It's fans who have beef and I think it's fine to be disappointed that there isn't more Kirby stuff but at the end of the day I'm not worried or mad about it. I love Kirby, I love Sakurai's games, I also really enjoy Shinya Kumazaki's games and am LOVING Forgotten Land. I love Kirby more then I dislike not getting more rep in smash. Also not sure why any of this is revelant to the fact Smash IS influenced by KSS. It just is as we can tell when we look at some of these things I've pointed out.

Kirby has always been a joy to play if you want to 100% a Kirby Game try Kirby 64 or Kirby's Epic Yarn. Especially Kirby's Epic Yarn since most people don't even 100% it.
I’ve always seen Kirby installments as either a platformer or “Kirby + gimmick”. This one has its gimmick, but how they implemented Kirby’s core gameplay is remarkable. It *feels* like Kirby. My only(minor) gripe is that it doesn’t have Suplex or Fighter abilities. 😉
To be fair with fighter, that is based on 2d fighting games so "technically" it wouldn't make so much sense here. But it would be great to see fighter even so.
Glad you gave this one a shot. I hadn't been planning to check out the game in the run-up to its release, but positive reviews and especially what I've heard about the Waddle Dee Town progression has me more interested - and this review gave me more of that.
What the game lacks in difficulty, it makes up for in sheer fun. I was playing this a ton while I was dealing with some stressful shit over the past couple months, and it was a great way to unwind for a little bit and calm down. I loved the time trials as a nice little challenge spike, but the game is so good at encouraging exploration, and the quality of the level design is so top notch, that I didn't really care how easy it was because I could kill 30 minutes to an hour just fucking around. My only complaint was the challenges that required relatively precise accuracy in a game that lacks the necessary level of control
I agree, this game is great. Kirby and the forgotten land is probably tied with tnmt shredders revenge with goty. Other kirby games you should try is super star, return to dreamland, and planet robobot. Lastly the first few kirby games were made by the creator of smash.

Honestly, the 30fps was for the best. I'd rather have a consistent framerate that won't drop over a better framerate, but very noticeable framerate drop...
Even with the gripe of not being able to go backwards during levels, levels are super short if you rush through and only become long when you explore. As such I didn't find going back through levels a pain at all, aside from the "Beast Pack's Final Stand" level which is more linear, and "Welcome to Wondaria" (the second task, standing on the rocket, I couldn't find because it could be anywhere between the ducks and flowers...which are at either end of the level. In reality you can complete it before the ducks, and I think it should have been placed first) Even the glitches in this game are fun. The moonjump glitch with hammer does nothing but add to the experience, as you can explore out of bounds, farm rare stones, or duplicate the true final boss to challenge yourself. Plus, it's easy enough to perform once you practice a bit (if anyone having trouble is using control option A, I suggest using control option B because I think it's easier to perform that way)
