Awesome fix, Joe, very thorough! Not many techs would get the amp reading on the fan max speed just to make sure the blower motor isn't drawing too much current. I've seen some worn blower motors cause absolute carnage to connectors and wiring lol
Thanks Ivan. Appreciate you brother. I feel that getting to the root cause of the issue is the real fix. In this case I believe it was terminal retention causing excessive heat at that connector.
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics man this is also a sharp tech😁😁 im half way in the video and im thinking hopefully he will check out the current ramp😁😁 Joe im looking all of your videos 😁😁take care
i really liked your video, its winter time as you know and my heater and a/c just stopped working. so i will take a look and hopefully get it figured out. thanks.
hi joe's exactly I have that same problem with my pontiac torrent 2006 and thanks to your video I was able to find the problem and it is exactly what it has and I would like to know how I get that part (what's it called) sorry for my ignorance😞 but I don't know what that part is called, I want to go to a yunker and buy the whole piece and look for a professional😌 because my knowledge of mecanic arrives there.😂 Thanks for your good video💪💪
Hey Joe a win win situation your happy the customer is happy and I am happy that this repair came out good !!! Thanks for sharing you made my day take care and the best in every thing you do !! And your partner Too !!!
Nice fix, that connector was bad. Nothing wrong with going to yard for parts sometimes better than aftermarket, more trust worthy. Keep em coming brother
JOES EMERGENCY SERVICES TO THE RESCUE, NO HEAT WITH 30 DEGREE WEATHER?, NO PROBLEM, PUT ON MY CAPE AND LET ME RESCUE THIS CUSTOMER !!!!!! GREAT JOB !!!
Just found your vids on TH-cam. I subscribed immediately. Your knowledge, common sense, and integrity are the best. My son's 06 Torrent had no heat, however the blower motor did run. I found out 06 Torrents and Equinox have an issue with the blend door shaft breaking at the actuator. Luckily Dorman has a repair kit. If the opposite end of the door shaft doesn't fall out of the housing, it can be repaired without taking the dash all apart. This is the first time I have ever commented on a You tube video. That's how much I liked what I saw and heard. Don't shy away from calling out bad repair work. It's bad for the repair industry. Going to your mechanic should not be on a par with going to the dentist. There should be no pain involved. Great videos!
Nice to know they were what you wanted. We had to get a used wheel bearing for insurance job which I hated because it is a safety issue. I would reject bearing and argue with the insurance company. I would at least get a new after market bearing. Money is good for insurance work but they like to dictate what parts you use. Just my rant. Part you got looked mint.
Have a 2005 torrent no heat , ended up being head gaskets lol nothing else fixed it untill that lol thank god dealer did 3,000 dollars worth of stuff trying to fix it.
Good video Joe. Way to go to the guys at the salvage yard. 1 year run on that and being a discontinued car brand makes finding parts even harder too. Customer should be very pleased.
Hay I’ve got a 2004 4Runner that’s putting the brakes on by itself after I release the brakes...I’m coming to a complete stop and then after I release the brakes with throttle the front brakes lock up but release after the throttle is applied
just curious here what was the end ame was it the resistor that was bad and shorted out or what I have just run into this and burnt as well on both ends as well heat used to come on but was acting wierd and the wife said to me i have been trying for the past 2 days and no heat you can hear it wanting to come on but nothing is plugged fan works great when it does come on. thanks for any ideas here
Hi Joe i have exactly the same problem same model ( pontiac torrent 2006)and year and exactly that part is damaged i need to know the name of those parts along with the cables and where they connect and if you can get it from an auto parts store or buy them on eBay Sorry my ignorance I don't know anything about cars, but I saw your video and I looked to see if that part was the one with problems and if (Thanks for your video), I don't want to spend another winter without heat is horrible
Nice one Joe ! You get all “Fun” crap on some of the worst engineered, discontinued cars in your shop 🤣 keeps us sharp learning especially living in the rust belt with all the various issues that come in... If you get a Northstar Engine Diag try and film it I bet it a be an interesting one 👍🏽
Joe's Auto Electric surprisingly enough I still see them on the road today, especially when I drive up north in the not most pleasant neighborhoods... with the Northstar emblem on trunk like a badge of honor
It's crazy how many electrical changes there were in 05-09 for Equinox, Vue and Torrent. They are each a little different even though basically the same body style. Just out of curiosity what amperage did you get on the blower on high. I repaired a melted connector in the driver kick panel on and 05 a couple weeks ago (did a video on it) and got about 15 1/2 amps with a 23amp spike on initial turn on. Just curious. Nice thought on the dielectric grease. I should start using it more often.
So many problems with the heat on this car. I've been through heater core, blend door, and actuator for blend door. Blower switch is out on high and will probably fail soon. So sad to hear it isn't available at parts stores. Any chance salvage guy has another switch
How do you know what caused the first connector to burn up doesn't rear its ugly head again? Like the old days of going to the junk yard (little aftermarket).
@@JoesAutoElectric I knew the answer because I kept saying to myself over and over " did you do a amperage draw test, aww come on ya gotta do an amperage draw test" lol...then ya finally said it, and I could finally relax hahaha
Great video just came across my first video of yours yesterday and had to subscribe! Great to see someone like you who takes the time to do a job right and actually give a damn. I work on cars myself and glad to see there’s still good techs out there
Oh boy. Now you have done it. You are going to start the crimp or solder debate. O almost always solder. Especially data/can lines. But there are some who say crimp only. NASA crimps so you should to.
Nice fix Joe. Just out of curiosity, rule of thumb of how much is too much amperage draw u would say is excessive. I mean at first start of blower motor operation it can spike to over 20 amps but for a short millisecond and then drop down below fuse rating. What's ur rule of thumb? I know I'm not the only one who thinks of these things while I toss and turn at night thinking of situations like these 😂😂
Spike on initial start of a motor is normal. Yes, below fuse rating is usually ok. testing known goods and simply getting used to seeing what certain motors output will get you familiar enough to recognize bad.
i seen lot of that issue on are truck fleet many year ago.would burn the swith and conector after a couple of week.then i solder the wire direct to the swith and no more problem
Great Job 👍👍👍

It is the heater control unit or switch assembly.
cool fix Joe
That’s the problem of my torrent too ,it’s hard to find the climate control of 2006 P.T. ,U dis a great job on that Suv. Thanks

2004 w/4.7L the abs unite is just stupid high💰I’m not sure if it’s a safety feature or a bad pump motor this model doesn’t run off a vacuum
They do build "excitement" over there at Pontiac.

I have a similar issues . My heater blows cold air in my 06 torrent . Any ideas what it could be
Bone yard part is better then Dorman I.M.O
What, don't you like changing the part 10 times? LOL
@@JoesAutoElectric nope fix it right once. LOL
I like that from Aleskyfinis
What is the white part on the back of the control panel that the burnt out wire goes into and can it be replaced without the entire panel?
Can I call the shop and talk to about my 06 Pontiac no heat or power to the controls
I had a similar issue with my 06 Equinox. On mine the blower motor resistor connector was also melted.
Years ago, they used dialectric grease on many connectors. It helped to keep heat down in them and prevented much of what we see today.
True, and they also used much better materials in the connectors without designing them to be the absolute smallest amount of metal possible.
What cause the shortage in the first place???
Not a short. Heat from the connections getting loose over time.
Clearly there was some heat 😂😂😂
Nice! Useless without the extra wire! It’s the little things that matter!

So , the car has heat but the has no air. I have no heat. so Onward to a hopefully correct titled video.

Too much resistance =heat 🤦🏻♂️
Pats from Wrecking yard? Why not they hav a return warranty on their stuff and the prices are reasonable!
Is this a common problem
Other than the switch being old, what could've caused the switch to burnout like that?
maybe high current from the motor or the push-on got loose a bad connection can make them heat up
andrew srenson change the cabin filter ...dirty cabin filter could have caused that
