I still remember his words spoken at my college - Best response to poverty eradication is high growth rate. Sluggish economy cannot eradicate poverty. They can only distribute poverty
BJP might have grandest of victories after 2014 but somehow they have misfortune of losing there best leaders when it was there time to enjoy power. Gopinath Munde - cardiac arrest Madhav dave - cardiac arrest Manohar Parrikar - pancreatic cancer Sushma Swaraj - kidney failure Arun Jaitley. - lung cancer Ananth kumar - lung cancer All were ministers and stalwarts in their own rights. Most unfortunate was Gopinath Munde when bjp had just won in 2014. he was made minister in cabinet and was enroute to Mumbai for his celebration But suffered cardiac arrest after road accident.
If ever I am praying I ask for the witt and wisdom like Late Jaitley Sir. What a champion politician he was. May God keep our favourite soul to his best hospitality. ❤
I never knew he was going through so much sickness. I am a firm believer that Indian doctors are next level in terms of talent, capability, and guts. The only thing letting them down is the poor infrastructure and shoddy work conditions. Seeing the pathetically slow medical services in Australia where an emergency case takes over 4 hours to get attended and costs are through the roof, one develops a true sense of respect for dedicate, malleable and underappreciated Indian doctors, nurses and support staff.
I feel BJP has lost highest number of high calibre leaders - Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Pramod Mahajan, Ananth Kumar, Manohar Parrikar. All these were future potential PM material😢. It is not only BJP's loss, but India's loss too.
I love how deeply affectionated your friendship with him was, may his soul rest in peace, and let us pay tribute for his work as career politician for India.
When Arun Jaitley was in Vajpayee's Ministry, I had seen him face to face in a law school. By that time, he was already a very successful senior advocate. He was an erudite articulate speaker, and very clear headed. I think that he was also a kind of bridge for Modi with many in the opposition. It is indeed astounding that inspite of his sickness, for many years, he managed several important ministries.
Only the 2nd time many thinking people felt genuine sorrow & wept on the death of a non-family individual, the 1st being Rajiv Gandhi. These were two 2 truly great & decent individuals who would have changed India even more dramatically, had they lived for a decade or so more. An obit, beautifully done by SG, when that the best one has seen. Kudos. The above video will stay in people's minds for long .
That Modi lost Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj back to back was a huge loss for Modi and for India. I seldom think that politicians make a difference. But these are politicians with a difference.
Jaitley was accused of financial irregularities and misappropriation of funds during his tenure as the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) from 1999 to 2013. Jaitley was the Finance Minister when the Modi government announced the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on 8 November 2016, with the aim of curbing black money, corruption and terrorism. The move was criticised by many as poorly planned and executed, causing severe cash shortages, economic disruption and hardship for millions of people. Jaitley was accused by fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya of having met him before he fled the country in 2016, owing over Rs 9000 crore to various banks. Mallya claimed that he had told Jaitley that he was leaving India and offered to settle his dues. Jaitley was criticised for his remark in 2016 that “one small incident of rape” in Delhi, purportedly referring to the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape case, had cost India billions of dollars in tourism. He was accused of trivialising the horrific crime and being insensitive to the victim and her family
Both BJP and Congress have lost certain key leaders too soon. In case of the Congress it was Madhavrao Scindia and Rajesh Pilot and for BJP it was Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj.
Happy birthday, Arun ji. You left the world early in your life and the BJP’s vaccum will never be filled. The country misses you. May God bestow peace on you , always.
Only the 2nd time many thinking people felt genuinely sad & wept on the death of a non-family individual, the 1st being Rajiv Gandhi. They were 2 great & decent individuals who would have changed India even more dramatically, had they lived for a decade or so more.
Arun Jaitley was the son-in-law of the Congress leader, Girdhari Lal Dogra who met me in Nirman Bhavan when I was on deputation from Punjab to the Urban Development Ministry, Government of India. His wife was the cousin of my friend, Dr. Bal Kishan Sharma who was Director of the PGI, Chandigarh.
Great sir. I also followed him.A man of words, great conviction and of impeccable integrity. We the country miss such polititians who had freinds across the spectrum of people. A great loss to Modi personally also as Arun use to host him all the time before Modi came on the scene in a big way. Thanks for this obituary.
Mr Gupta you should cover the death of captain vijaykanth, head of DMDK. This will reduce the criticism of @theprint that it doesn’t cover south politics with as much vigor as it covers heartland Hindi states.
In January 2018, when Finance Minister Arun Jaitley launched the electoral bonds, he promised that no donor to any political party need fear being tracked or harassed by anyone in power. Unfortunately, that has turned out to be untrue. And how SBI became the arm of the government! Imagine where he would have been in todays scenario!? Where the Gujarat lobby, the Chairman of BJP and his side kick rule the roost!!
Love the personal touch SG brings when it comes to politicians. But all truth must be said as well: Was Jaitley a good finance minister? But it can't be denied that Jaitley was a gentleman and both he and Sushmaji are missed in today's polarised times.
Shekhar sir Arun ji ensured that the children of his house associates go to same schools as his own.A quality that any declared socialist in indian politics lacks. The name for your book:Meandrings
Immensely beautiful piece, Shekhar has brought about. I loved your narration and the details. I also admired Arun Jaitely a lot. He was a beacon of light to new Modi government. This article inspired me as well in the sense that we should not turn pessimistic, come what may. Appreciate ❤
He is the worst Finance Minister after independence. He institutionalized and legalized corruption through Electoral Bonds, IBC Code, bypassing rajya sabha declaring bills as monetary bills and stop Rail Budget. Praising such of fin min is a crime Gupta जी.
Shekhar Gupta is not above licking the ‘right’ (pun intended) boots. A politician can have good qualities and friends. A journalist who cannot make a critical assessment is only making a political statement.
He was finance minister during demonetisation. He was arrested during emergency but allowed similar traits during his tenure. Architect of electoral bonds

Helped Modi's. all undemocratic acts in Gujarath governance & politics got ratified by judiciary. Very very efficient lawyer political of era in SCI 2002 to 2019
With all due respect to Shekhar, I'm sure he is great friend. But looking at his public record it's pretty bad from electoral bonds to GST. He single handedly destroyed India's economy.

Two things you can deduce by SGs coverage.
1) SG loves Arun Jaitely from the heart
2) SG hates Parvez Mushraff to the core😅
I feel BJP has lost highest number of high calibre leaders - Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Pramod Mahajan, Ananth Kumar, Manohar Parrikar. All these were future potential PM material😢. It is not only BJP's loss, but India's loss too.
So touching... lovely to see your affection for Mr. Jsotley
Arun ji Sushma ji Manohar Parrikar ji left too soon😢
Yea.. 😢

He legalized corruption in India via electoral bonds.
Jaitly , sushma, anantkumar, parikkar...Great people . Had tough time at the end of their life. Om Shanti.
Remembering a good man always brings a cheer. I wish the noble soul of Shri Arun Jaitely eternal peace.

Touching Shekhar 😢. They don’t make them like Jaitley anymore
That Modi lost Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj back to back was a huge loss for Modi and for India. I seldom think that politicians make a difference. But these are politicians with a difference.
I pray he is born again to be in rajya sabha

Arun Jaitley should have been in party politics rather than into governmental affairs
Manohar parrikar is my favorite defense minister.

Thank you, SG for remembering the most sincere, popular and tall national leader 🙏🙏
Great Leader Jaitley ji was
I listened to an interview of mr. Anil Swarup , my respect for arun jaitley ji increased
what a great person Arun Jaitly ji was. I now learned many new things from him
This is the 1st episode of yours where I agree with all that you say... every word of it. Keep it up this way!
A rare one by Shekhar got me emotional 😌
Arun Jaitley was one of the brilliant speakers. truly amazing. miss his great speeches.
good summary Sekar.
What is your say on kirti Azad's allegations on Jaitely of huge corruption in Delhi cricket board? He gave proof
❤

And I think this peace by you is best spoken with best chosen words and presented in a manner all obituaries be done. Thanks again.
Lovely episode- I remember Jaitley especially for his cerebral TV debates with Kapil Sibbal ❤️
Unfortunately many highly talented leaders like Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Ananth Kumar and Manohar Panicker all went too soon.
The book cover shown at the end of the video was incorrect - It showed the biography of R D Burman and not S D Burman.
Is there a biography or an autobiography on late Mr. Jaitley?
Arun Jaitley was the son-in-law of the Congress leader, Girdhari Lal Dogra who met me in Nirman Bhavan when I was on deputation from Punjab to the Urban Development Ministry, Government of India. His wife was the cousin of my friend, Dr. Bal Kishan Sharma who was Director of the PGI, Chandigarh.
Who was mr dogra cm?
@@faultlines3399 Girdhari Lal Dogra was not CM. He was Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Jammu.
So heartfelt. Rest in peace

One of the best videos ever made by ThePrint. You have a very kind heart SG Sir! 🙏
Thanks Shekhar Sir... having endured something similar personally I will continue to be inspired by Jaitley Sir to keep spirits high!!

If the book has collection of articles post 2014 i would suggest 'the right turn' as a title
Good one
'The "right" turn'
Please upload more on Arun Jaitley.. we would really like to know more about Jaitley ji..❤
Yes please. We will wait for some more material on Arun Jetly.
Had known about all the good qualities of Mr AJ but your ' dil se ' comments were the icing on the cake 👍👍
Another soul-scratching presentation by Guptaji! Bravo!
Shekhar Gupta is not above licking the ‘right’ (pun intended) boots. A politician can have good qualities and friends. A journalist who cannot make a critical assessment is only making a political statement.
Team, the article before 2014 results about what if modi wins would be a good fit for the book.
He was finance minister during demonetisation. He was arrested during emergency but allowed similar traits during his tenure. Architect of electoral bonds
To me he was the super GS of BJP.. He has a better political acumen than Modi's lieutenant Amith Shah
Jaitley is one of the reasons behind the country's political decline. Always found him very arrogant. Your praising / defending him is surprising.
Suggestions for the title

Bharat ek nayi khoj
It’s RD Burman on the cover page- and not SD Burman- am I right?
would appreciate if you can tell us about Late Sushma Swaraj ji.
