I still remember his words spoken at my college - Best response to poverty eradication is high growth rate. Sluggish economy cannot eradicate poverty. They can only distribute poverty

BJP might have grandest of victories after 2014 but somehow they have misfortune of losing there best leaders when it was there time to enjoy power.
    Gopinath Munde - cardiac arrest
    Madhav dave - cardiac arrest
    Manohar Parrikar - pancreatic cancer
    Sushma Swaraj - kidney failure
    Arun Jaitley. - lung cancer
    Ananth kumar - lung cancer
All were ministers and stalwarts in their own rights.
    Most unfortunate was Gopinath
Munde when bjp had just won in 2014. he was made minister in cabinet and was enroute to Mumbai for his celebration
But suffered cardiac arrest after road accident.

I never knew he was going through so much sickness. I am a firm believer that Indian doctors are next level in terms of talent, capability, and guts. The only thing letting them down is the poor infrastructure and shoddy work conditions. Seeing the pathetically slow medical services in Australia where an emergency case takes over 4 hours to get attended and costs are through the roof, one develops a true sense of respect for dedicate, malleable and underappreciated Indian doctors, nurses and support staff.

Two things you can deduce by SGs coverage.
    1) SG loves Arun Jaitely from the heart
    2) SG hates Parvez Mushraff to the core😅

I feel BJP has lost highest number of high calibre leaders - Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Pramod Mahajan, Ananth Kumar, Manohar Parrikar. All these were future potential PM material😢. It is not only BJP's loss, but India's loss too.

When Arun Jaitley was in Vajpayee's Ministry, I had seen him face to face in a law school. By that time, he was already a very successful senior advocate. He was an erudite articulate speaker, and very clear headed. I think that he was also a kind of bridge for Modi with many in the opposition. It is indeed astounding that inspite of his sickness, for many years, he managed several important ministries.

Only the 2nd time many thinking people felt genuine sorrow & wept on the death of a non-family individual, the 1st being Rajiv Gandhi.
These were two 2 truly great & decent individuals who would have changed India even more dramatically, had they lived for a decade or so more.
An obit, beautifully done by SG, when that the best one has seen. Kudos.

Jaitley was accused of financial irregularities and misappropriation of funds during his tenure as the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) from 1999 to 2013.
Jaitley was the Finance Minister when the Modi government announced the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on 8 November 2016, with the aim of curbing black money, corruption and terrorism. The move was criticised by many as poorly planned and executed, causing severe cash shortages, economic disruption and hardship for millions of people.
Jaitley was accused by fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya of having met him before he fled the country in 2016, owing over Rs 9000 crore to various banks. Mallya claimed that he had told Jaitley that he was leaving India and offered to settle his dues.
Jaitley was criticised for his remark in 2016 that “one small incident of rape” in Delhi, purportedly referring to the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape case, had cost India billions of dollars in tourism. He was accused of trivialising the horrific crime and being insensitive to the victim and her family

In January 2018, when Finance Minister Arun Jaitley launched the electoral bonds, he promised that no donor to any political party need fear being tracked or harassed by anyone in power. Unfortunately, that has turned out to be untrue. And how SBI became the arm of the government! Imagine where he would have been in todays scenario!? Where the Gujarat lobby, the Chairman of BJP and his side kick rule the roost!!
