    My dad, who passed away some years ago, was a good man and quite handy, but he never thought to teach his three daughters about how to do the mechanical and woodworking projects that he so enjoyed. I wish I had urged him to teach me.
    So, now I have you, dad, to help me with these things.
    I just replaced my sister's dead car battery after watching your video.
    Her battery had stuck wing / butterfly nuts on the metal hold-down strap, with one of them possibly being cross-threaded. They were not coming off with turning by hand.
    I was hesitant to use a pliers on the wings for fear of snapping them off,
    so I placed a needlenose pliers with flat tips around the round metal base of these butterfly nuts, turning a millimeter at a time, and success!
    I am very grateful to you for your help and for also instilling the confidence that we can do these jobs. You are making this often challenging world a better place, one new car battery at a time!👍☺️

    My dad has taught me everything from how to use every tool imaginable to how to do an oil change in my car to how to replace a whole toilet and everything in between. I’m 31 years old (woman) and I love still learning things from him. Not only because he’s teaching me valuable things so I can be self sufficient , but also because I love spending time with him. When my sister was about your age she was living in a townhouse. Postage stamp size front yard, and a little electric mower. Everyone told her "be careful you don't run over the cord......... She ran it over anyway.😂 She unplugged the cord and got her tool box. Her neighbor (a guy) was seriously impressed when she cleaned up the cut ends, bared some copper and spliced the cord together. Then sealed it well with electric tape. Neighbor staring in disbelief asks "Where did you learn to do that, she replied from watching my dad and 5 brothers.

I tightened the screws more, after a few failed tries I was ready to call uber, but one more try. Some screw on the the black spark plug needed more tightening, I did just that and I was on my way.Thanks dad :')))))))))

      Confidence is a big one, I noticed when I first started going to the mechanic for various basic things the could tell the could wring the money outta my pocket. Once I started learning more about how my car worked and what needs to be replaced when they can bombard you with a list of things that are "wrong" with the vehicle. A common thing I see Is that they will give you a list of stuff that might be worn down and tell you that its unsafe to drive but in reality its just normal wear and tear. As for buying a car I haven't crossed that road yet but I'd assume the same sort of principles apply (Know what you want, do plenty of research, and don't feel like you can't disagree with their opinion)

    • @bellabigotti1728
      @bellabigotti1728 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Super Andy lol for sure that’s the way I’ve been handling it either bringing my bf or a male friend along, but it would be cool to feel comfortable and knowledgeable doing it myself!

    • @bellabigotti1728
      @bellabigotti1728 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryan Fitzgibbons thank you so much Ryan!
      I have definitely noticed better service when I’m knowledgeable about what needs to be done or what has already been taken care of. I often turn down their extra fixes list, what’s the best way to tell when something on that list really does need to be fixed, should I bring it elsewhere for a second opinion and then go ahead with the fix if they say it’s serious as well?

    • @ryanfitzgibbons7537
      @ryanfitzgibbons7537 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bellabigotti1728 My family has been going to a small local shop for 20+years and we've gotten to know and trust the owner. Eventually the knowledge of what and when becomes common sense sorta like you can rather easily as the vid shows change your battery and wiper blades but an oil change requires special equipment. Your car should come with a manual telling you how to diagnose some problems, what to worry about and if you or a dealer/mechanic should fix it. Im happy to try and answer any more questions you might have!!! :)

    Thank you so much, "Dad"!! ❤ I knew from my last oil change appointment when they did an 80,000 check up that my battery was low, but it was kind of a waiting game. Came out from work (night shift) this morning to find my car was dead. Today was that day. Lol you helped me unattach everything, and my sister swooped in to help me re-attach it properly. Your video helped me GREATLY!! I knew you from reels on Facebook, so when I came to TH-cam and searched for a how-to video and found yours, I immediately clicked. You're AWESOME!

I wanted to be reliable. Show her I can do things. BUT I HAD NO IDEA HOW TO DO IT. That is, until I saw your video. I changed the battery with the few tools I had, she turned the car on ...and boom. It Turned on 👍👍👍👍I didn't tell her exactly how I learned, I kept that to myself. So thankyou for making me look like the coolest person ever, definitely gave me big brownie points . Thanks to you

    The thing that 'scares' me is the thought/possibility of getting shocked, but I know it won't hurt that much

    • @KurosakiYukigo
      @KurosakiYukigo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't worry! There's very little chance of being shocked by a car battery. You have to touch both posts at the same time to draw any current and even so, as long as your hands aren't wet and you're not touching with any particularly sensitive areas you won't really be in much danger of anything but a "Ow! That #$#@$ing hurt!"
      You really have to be handling the battery in a pretty irresponsible way for that to happen though. Pay attention and you'll be right as rain!

    Thanks so much for that video. I had problems with my car due to the lack of driving in the whole corona time we're in right now, so much that it did not even start as the battery was completely discharged. Even though i was able to resurrect it, I still bought a new battery but was unable to put it in myself as i was afraid of the electricity on the plus part of the battery and how to touch it. You're video helped me a lot getting some general understanding! As my dad lost quite a lot of his ability to speak / think clearly, your videos literally bring tears of joy to me, only a simple sentence like 'you've got this'. Even though i am also already 31, sometimes you just need a little bit of that in your life.
    All the best to you from Bavaria btw, cheers!

    can you do a video to know when you have to change gears while driving with stick shift? Please

    • @therealreel6436
      @therealreel6436 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pretty simple really, just push the clutch all the way in, shift, press on the gas slowly, and remove pressure from the clutch at the same time slowly, if you jerk your foot off the clutch you’ll jerk forward. If you don’t put enough gas you’ll stall... it takes some time to get the hang of, but it’s pretty simple. I would just watch a TH-cam video and you’ll get it soon! Good luck! Definitely the best way to drive

    • @Lily_1010
      @Lily_1010 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've driven stick a long time, at first you can look at the RPM gauge and you notice that in the lower gears like 1 2 or 3 you don't want the RPM's past about 2 or 3, you'll start to hear the engine sound very loud and sounds kinda like the engine is screaming at you, haha, so you don't want that. You want to shift before that happens. After you have learned to drive stick, you won't even look at the RPM gauge, you'll just know when to shift, it comes naturally. It's also best to learn at a big empty parking lot or country roads, a lot less stress. Good luck!

    I discovered this channel through a link in Facebook to an article about the man. I am 14 and it’s been a long time since I had a father figure, because my mom and dad did not go on with their marriage because of problems. Don’t get me wrong my dad was a good man, I still had fond memories of us going to the arcade or going to Mcdonalds to eat for lunch. It’s been I think 6 or 7 years since I last saw him personally, now he is somewhere abroad and surprisingly with no new family, because he still wants to go back with my mother for the sake of me. But that is now too late as now I have a step-dad, he is also a good man too but I just dont feel comfortable with him, he taught me how to do weightlifting and that’s pretty much it, and the fact that he is a Seaman that is in a boat for the entirety of the year does not help. Pretty much now I learn the manly things from my own like shaving, etc. from the internet or youtube. I even just learnt how to tie my shoelaces 2 years ago by myself. So I am very thankful that someone out there in the world does things like this, it make me cry. I am posting this at every recent video so that he notices or atleast someone notices
