    I took the Google cert first and then the CAPM (using Alvin’s resources) a few months later. They do compliment one another very well. I am currently studying for the PMP and can’t wait to crush it.

    Personally, I took the Google PM cert and both enjoyed it and learned a lot since I do not have experience in PM. Plus, the hands on assignments are helpful and the templates you get are great tools for later. But I am using that as my required hours and I’m currently studying for the CAPM. In my own searches PMI certainly seem to be the most desirable. So, I agree do both.

      It took me a day to complete the GOOGLE PROJECT MANAGEMENT course. PMP is impossible to learn that quickly. I cried on the 4th day of training. You're right though about that discount. I earned my PMP and I just got approved to take the PMI - ACP. Anything project management is great for PDUS and to know overall. The more certifications, more earning power. Great job.

    Don’t do the Google PM certificate. Does not help with job search at all and most companies, as you rightly said, only value and consider PMI certifications. Google’s PM certificate is only worth it if you’re looking to lessen the basics of project management and how things usually work in Google’s offices and teams.

    I have to admit that while the Google course was decent (finished it in a week to get it "for free"), it didn't have the same weight as the PMI material. Half of the Google course was more about Google's policies than it was about actual project management. This is fine because the course was created to train people in the Google way. However, not every company is Google.
    To be honest, I have been told by my employer that they will never seek a project manager and that I "wasted my time," but that's okay. I'll just find another company that will appreciate what I can do and I will keep learning, see if I can get that Agile cert or get the SCRUM master setup.

    • @alvinthepmofficial
      @alvinthepmofficial  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @MatthewEaton, thanks for sharing your own experiences taking the Google Course. And, you're right, not every company is Google. It's unfortunate that your employer isn't looking for a Project Manager at this time. If that's the case, I encourage you to look at other companies in your area for Project Manager roles, because there are definitely companies out there needing PMs (from entry level to mid and senior). Keep going, and don't get discouraged by what your employer said. If I had stayed at my first company, I wouldn't be where I am today, and I wouldn't have been able to pivot into Project Management. You got this!

    I have done my Masters in Project Management. So from what I been taught and seen so far. CAPM has a high weightage compared to Google Pm cert. But regardless as per the Google branding itself comes out as a strong contestant.
    But for me personally as a Masters graduate in PM, I would choose CAPM, since its the original PMP certification.

If you already meet the minimum 3 years of work experience managing projects professionally, then I'd recommend going straight for the PMP Exam. I'd encourage you to choose the ones that give a certificate at the end of it (such as Udemy or Coursera), so you can leverage it, in case your application gets audited (not likely, but just to err on the safe side).

    I got the PMI-Ready… is it worth anything?

      @Umlaut95, I haven't personally taken PMI-Ready before, and unfortunately can't say how valuable the content is. If it's from PMI, I still encourage you to list it on your resume, to help with your job search

    Im just lost. Fresh out of school graduate, studied computer engineering. I don't have a job or any work experience.
    Searching for something to do and came across this project management. I don't know if its something i can venture in as a complete beginner. Can i land job after this courses and certification? Or would I still have to go over and start a job and work my way up to being a project manager?
    Help please

      You can absolutely land a job as a complete beginner in Project Management, I've worked many entry-level project managers who were fresh graduates from college (meaning zero experience beforehand). I encourage you to start looking into the industries you want to apply for, research the companies you're interested in, and start applying.

      @@alvinthepmofficial I did Google Project Management and the PMP 3 months later. Lord Hath mercy. You are certainly accurate. My KICKOFF and training was done at Syracuse University. It lasted one week. I struggled to stay awake but I did it. I am going back for another round, hoping to understand the calculations better. Yet, that is what your chapter is for. I was offered a SENIOR PROCESSING MANAGER role by the summer of last year. Next, $145K SENIOR PROGRAM MANGER | PROGRAM MANAGER III role. I am not boasting but I know why half of the folks want that PMP. lol Thank you for your content, Alvin.
