Could you please help me out with this as I'm getting a job offer for project coordinator but not in IT but in Automobile? Also, I have an experience of 1.4 years in Customer support for Uk process in Amazon and I'm looking to switch my career in project management as I have a degree in BSc(Comp. SCI)
Hi Madhuri, I will be honest. I would hire someone who has agile, and IT experience even if they are not a Project Coordinator. In IT, it's much easier to help someone grow in a Project Coordinator position than to teach someone IT. So the only way I would give someone a chance who doesn't have IT experience is if it's someone who works in my company, and I am willing to give that person a chance, or they have worked in operations or supply/chain. Is the Automobile PC position in a department that is doing that? If I were you, I would consider getting the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM). It's usually a two-day course and then an open-book exam. I consider that certification was more valuable to me than the PMP because I still use what I learned at my job. If the automobile company had an IT department, I would become friends with the people there and offer your services. In this way, you get a job, which will help you move towards your career goal of getting into IT.

Pmp ,pmi and so on .in my view I have been studying project management from youtube videos from all of the different certification institutions and currently doing saylor academy course as we don't all have enough money for those expensive certifications.it all comes down to how good do you want to be at your job
I didn't actually hear or see if you completed the Google Project Management program. You're talking about it but did you successfully complete it? Also, #Coursera did not say it will get you a job after completing the program. No program should explicitly say that anyway. Coursera says, it will have you "job ready in less than 6 months" which translates to what they also says helps you "PREPARE for a new career " once you finish. I know. It is a bold marketing claim but still not specific to actually "getting/giving/landing" one a job. I like the fact you mentioned giving this 🆕 program a chance to optimize itself & make itself relevant 2 the market instead of (completely) writing it off like some other reviewers. I also like you referencing the added nugget - benefit of leveraging it towards the CAPM. Thanks 4 the talking points!

I have 5 years experience but only had my associates. Not I’m having a hard time finding another position because most people who are hiring managers don’t know the job so when they set the minimum requirement at bachelors. Regardless my experience I’m getting declined. I now graduate in April with my BAS and going into. MBA program right after. But it is rediculous that some of these managers are in charge of hiring for positions they know nothing about. I literally had to Train a coworker with his degree in MIT while he was making more than me because I started with an associates. The insult is real, I’m sure if I could get a interview it would sound impressive, but my application don’t usually meet the BS requirement so I never make it to the interview stage. Thankfully I also own my own business so I’ve been getting by until I can finish my education.
Given the PMP is the "gold standard" for project management, I don't think it's fair to compare the Google Project Management certificate to it. How would you compare the Google PM certificate to CompTIA's Project+ since neither have prerequisites?
The Google PM is great if you have no experience and using it for entry level, but the PMP is impossible to get unless you already in the field. Both are great and both have their uses.
I just found your video. I completed the Google PM back in late November early December and so far I have not seen any benefits from it. When I apply for PM positions I am seeing no results to date. I have two masters degrees in education and instructional design and I am hoping it is just time I need and of course patience. However, I kind of also feel like my age has played a role in this. Do you think this is a young persons path or would someone say just over 50 be able to keep up? Prior to this, I was a teacher for 5 years and prior to that I worked for an online payment retailer for 5 years and a retail manager for more than 15 years. I feel like l still have so many transferable skills but something is missing. I am studying for my CAPM now so hopefully that will help.

But that's a problem with almost every course in Coursera. I'm very grateful for the opportunity that Google is giving the world to learn more about this profession and others.
I took the IT and nothing happened. A friend got a job with Amazon. I am now taking the project management certification and it has truly helped me with my own healthcare company.
Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. Going to go for the PMP.
Thank you so much Shevonne for your breakdown in this video 😃
Hey Shevonne, thanks for providing this content... I am currently taking a Google Project Management Certificate program (6 months)
Working as a Graphic designer and product designer but also planning on project management as a retirement plan.
thanks for this it helped me decide to give the google one a shot (as someone with some adjacent exposure to but no formal experience yet as a PM) especially since I can apply this time later down the road.
As someone who just completed the Google Project Management Specialization, your video is very helpful! I believe my next step will be to certify for the CAPM as I am still green. I currently work as an HR professional within the banking industry but was an educator previous to transitioning into HR and was wondering what your thoughts are on being able to gain useful experience within Project Management.
Hi! I noticed you said you worked as an educator then went to HR. I’m considering doing the same (if I don’t pursuit the CAPM). Any tips you’d wish you’d known going in?
Hey Shevonne! You have great insights.Your video on certification us very enlightening. Great staff there. I am just going back to my profession as Project Manager after two years doing data management. Thanks
Thank you for sharing this because I was so confused on which to go with. Will def be taking the CAPM.
I think I am going to do the exact same thing what you suggested in your video. Thank You!
Starting the GCP program in a two weeks!
Very competent woman. Thanks
The reality is the Gap between the University Degrees and the industry needs become wider and wider. The
I'm doing the GPM certificate thanks for the insight
I'm currently doing the Google cert but really went into it with the idea that it was a starting point
Thanks a lot for telling the prerequisites of capm, pmp n google certificate!
This presentation has been very helpful!
Great straightforward content!
I just watched a number of videos one after the other and I am really amazed by them! Thanks for delivering such interesting videos and super compact and helpful information
Love your honesty. Thanks for being real!
I have found that as a woc with extensive project management experience, I have def hit a wall in my career. If I want to go any further, make more money and be taken as a "real" professional, I have to get the PMP. I'm going through a rough patch, so trying to figure out how I am going to pay for it now.
Thank you for posting this. This video was very helpful!
I am doing the google cert and studying for CAPM.
The google cert gives you 100 hours toward CAPM
I am trying to do CAPM and it’s a huge book
Pmp ,pmi and so on .in my view I have been studying project management from youtube videos from all of the different certification institutions and currently doing saylor academy course as we don't all have enough money for those expensive certifications.it all comes down to how good do you want to be at your job
A lot of useful information. Thanks Shevonne.
Hi Shevonne, great video!!What state are you located? I am really thinking about Project management.
This video is so informative and I really appreciate the part in the end when you say you value more peoples hands on experience over a certain degree!!! I am from China and had worked as a project manager (in sales) in a German corporate for 6 years, then I relocated to Canada and had kids and have been a SAHM for 7 years. What should my next steps be for returnship? Would employers in North America recognize my past experience from a different country? Should I go for CAPM then PMP or can I start from PMP right away? Thank you so much!!!
Informative, Concise and Genuine. Subbed
Thank you love !!❤
Thank you! This was absolutely informative!
Glad it was helpful!
We need experience HR in the UK . We are lacking big time recruiting staffing in London where the head hunters are just picked up from retail or sales and put up to recruit staff with out any background checks
What a great video lady. Awesome !
Awesome video! Thanks for the advice.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much... this info really helped.
Starting with Google Project Management as I have no experience in that sector.
Hi. Thanks for this information. Regards!
If you have time, can I send some PM experience with you to see if that might validate? Love this video and am so glad I found your posts. Thank you.
I have not started on any certificates yet. I am just doing research to see which route is best for me to become a project manager. However, I was looking on indeed and noticed most of the listings around me require a bachelor degree. My question is should I invest in a bachelor’s degree along with the certificates or are there jobs out there that don’t require a degree
Good question. I have no degree or any certificate so I was also wondering about this too
It was a really nice video, You explained everything so well. I just wanted to ask you a question that what should a person do who is having no experience in any of the above ...but he or she is targeting Project Manager as his career objective??
Great info thank you a lot
Hi Shevonne, I love your content. I am an English Teacher (overseas) and I am looking to switch career next year. I started the Google Project Management certificate and so far I have completed the second course. Afterward I hope to get the CAPM, do you have any advice for me? Thanks in advance.
As a teacher, you definitely have PM experience. If you have been doing it for three years and have a bachelors, then I would just go for the PMP. If not, then the CAPM for sure.
I'm an overseas English teacher as well. I'm currently halfway done with the Google PM course. Should I do PMP afterwards?
@@ShevonnePolastre Can you suggest some ways her education skills could be converted into PM skills? I’m kinda in the same boat lol
Hello Paula!
I would love to know more about your teaching overseas! I’m a former English teacher also & interested in an overseas experience along with possible project management!
@@kendrewreviews Hello!
I would I’ve to hear about your overseas experience! As a former teacher I have thought about teaching overseas very much! Please reach out to me and let’s talk!
Hello
Is the PMI certification better than the Google one
Superb!! Thank you Ma’am!!
Hi Shevonne, what is your take on Prince2?
Helpful, thank you.
I will go for google Certification
Good luck!
Thank you for useful information.
Hello, thank you for the info. I am enrolled in a program that assists with career counseling. They offer programs through various universities. A few Programs mentioned are Project Management Certificate
with PMP/CAPM Exam Prep, Project Management Professional (PMP) Exam Preparation Course, Agile Project Management plus Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) Exam Prep, Project Planning and Control, Project Management for Healthcare. You mentioned that the PMP is gold, so my question for you is out of these offer programs which should I go for. I want to set myself up for the most productive route after passing.
TIA.
I am 3 year experience software developer, which one is best for me
Good info what is your view about PMP vs. prince2 or prince2 agile
Thx, currently enrolled with Google's PM course. I Mean so like can you name any sort of accredited certifications that would be considered entry level standards or highly recommended but may be generic? You mentioned the capm which was one such certification.
Hello! I work in PR and wanted to get one of these certificates to boost my skills in PR. I have no intention of transitioning to project management as a career but want to be a better project manager in my day-to-day work in PR. The Google certification would be the best, right?
Yes, if you aren't planning to go into project management, then definitely get the cert.
Yep this is me too! I’m a Process Engineer and I’m also just looking into boosting my skills in project management.
hi
shevonne, As you mentioned you're a program manager.
Request you to please suggest a certification for a program manager with 2 yrs experience
Total experience : 6yrs
Program management experience : 2yrs
Hello Shevonne, I am a recent Ph.D. in Engineering Physics (6 years timeline). I just completed foundations in PM by google. Planning to complete the rest. But with the one course I have completed, I now know that I have been an excellent project manager throughout my Ph.D. So do you suggest I go for CAPM or PMP ?
Dear my question is
Can i get a product manager job with google project management certificate or just project manager job????
Do I still need this certificate if I'm taking a project management course in college and might pick it as my electives?
Thank you for shedding some light on this TOPIC.. you got a New subscriber.. :)
Thanks for the sub!
do i need to have an associates degree to obtain a CAPM?
i googled the question , and got :
You'll need to have the following in order to sit for the CAPM exam: A high school diploma, GED, associate degree, or equivalent
i only have a high school diploma. does that mean i need to earn an associates degree.
i've just completed the google certification. but need to know what's next im a stay at home mom & would like any tips on how to proceed with actually getting somewhere with this.
Could you please talk about this certificate Master Project Manager (MPM) by AAPM?
Unfortunately, I don't know much about that certificate but I will look into it and ask people in PM groups I'm in if they do.
@@ShevonnePolastre Thank you.
Great Video!
Thanks!
What's up with that 35 hours of education criteria? I have 3 years of experience in non-profit. But no CAPM. Want to pursue PMP.
Hello, quick question. Military personnel have a way of project management. I am active duty for the next year (40 months) and currently have a bachelors in business administration. Do you recommend the CAPM?
Please how can I subscrite to the PMP Certificat ???
I hope to come to rumania next month so i would like to follow degree also..now i am working as a working manager..i need to get this certificate also..can you advice me please..
I am an engineer. And i am thinking about project management. What advice do you have. Cause mostly it seems directed to IT and business
Thank you so much
Thanks for the informative video.
I have 7yrs of experience in retail banking and I wanted to switch my career to project management, please suggest if I could pursue my career as a PM in banking industry with just certification
Thanks 💐
Who would you be hiring for? Yourself or companies employing you? Is it then not about you and the company policy on who they want to employee be it a degree holder or a certificate holder? Personally I think unless you have your own company then u don’t have any holding to talk about who would be hired in any company so therefore advice on what course to take! I think advising people to look at the market, the companies and what type of people with what type qualifications they are interested in is more prudent that the position you are taking which is personal and full of gas…
I'm taking the pm course now but my thing is what do I do after I get the certificate? Will jobs even look my way or should I get another certificate?
Hi Shevonne, I just started with the Google certificate this month, I have 3 years of experience in project management. Now that I've seen your video, I'm thinking of stopping the Google certificate and go with CAPM, I don't see this in the Coursera website though (where the Google Project Management Certificate is) where can I enroll for the CAPM? Thanks!
Id like to clarify that im looking for alternatives to the CAPM certification that PMI is offering, their pricing is a bit too steep. Thank you
Thank you for this. Can you make a video of bvop project manager certificate is it worth it?
Thank you! I'll definitely check that one out and create a video.
Hi work as a health insurance co ordinator with 9 years of experience now i want to change my field and work in a project management area in it can i do it ? Will i get a job in IT PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Hey! Thanks for sharing all this information. Can you please tell me if the Google project management certificate recognised in Canadian job market?
Is my 4 years of teaching experience worth anything in terms of project management experience? If so, what cert should I go for? & what jobs should I apply for once I get said cert? I’m so done w teaching lol
Thank you
Is Google Certification sufficient to make one eligible for PMP or is CAPM necessary to apply even for PMP ? Provided he/she fulfils other prerequisite
how do we get the rest of the experience we need after the finishing the certificate in order to get hired?
I have 3 year degree in university of Plymouth UK
