I love seeing the woodgrain brought out in a piece of wood, which makes me surprised at how much I like this piece. What’s there, still attracts my eye!
Well done. Thought for sure this was going to be live edge. No matter, the natural edge is very nice. You did a great job with the piece as well. We can see, and you said in the description, that the wood is pretty plain. I would suggest that it would be a great candidate for coloring and other embellishments. No guilt for covering a beautiful grain pattern. Good job Andy.
I don't think it's bland at all! It's actually a beautiful piece with wood that's almost pure in it's color. I bet it ages and seasons as time goes on. It's a beautiful piece Andy! ❤❤❤
@@Blade1310 He had to write it translated to English. He probably doesn't know how to spell it in gibberish and even if he could my Google translate app doesn't have the gibberish setting.
Amazing! I was hoping to see those beautiful leaves inside epoxy like the flowers but as always you find the hidden beauty that I never see. Well done, bravo Andy! 👏🎉❤
I could watch you for hours, what you do with a piece of wood is almost mesmerizing.beautiful piece.just keep on doing your thing.on to your next.be sale.kudos to you sir 😎😎😎👍👍👍
I think those really faint grain lines look pretty cool. The big dark blemishes actually disrupt the appearance more than they add flavor. In most of your work such big, irregular, natural shapes make a piece more interesting. But in this case, they seem out of place in what would otherwise be an extremely clean design.
I follow justintrees for inVASEive species & was wondering why he wasn’t mentioning the type of invasive wood or turning it into a vase xD looks wonderful, glad i watched this, Andy.
A nice simple piece, Andy, but elegant in its simplicity. I’m interested in how you finish greener wood. Mine always seems to crack or warp once it dries, so I’ve taken to rough turning if wet and then finish it off after it’s dried.
I was given some birch this past spring and was excited to turn it. Talk about bland! The tree grew very fast so grain lines were probably 10mm wide and the wood very pale and plain.
Great project. I would be interesting to see a comparison of other invasive species and see how they stack up against each other. I wonder if the laurel would be a good candidate for wood dye as it seems very bland as a wood. Thanks for sharing.
I hate magnolia trees! My neighbor has a giant one in his front yard and I'm the lucky recipient of all the leaves it sheds during the summer. You may have changed my mind with this project.
He has a gallery and shop. Link in the description. You should be able to contact him there. At a guess it will (obviously) depend on the size, but also the type of wood and how much detail you want. Even a basic Xmas tree decoration could take hours to make, if it's fiddly! Whatever he charges, it'll be fair. His reasonably complicated items in his shop last time I looked were in the low hundreds. I thought his pricing was fair because I know how long it takes Hubby to make things!
It was .. I just added a couple of coats of Danish oil to help slow down the drying.. its over a month since I turned it and there is no real movement or splitting
@@AndyPhillipWoodturning I'm about to turn a green chunk of Brazilian Pepper Tree, which is invasive as all hell here in Florida, and was thinking of using linseed oil for much the same thing. Thank you for the reply!
Love this piece, but you're probably still going to hate where I'm going with this comment. I kept looking at it and wondering what it reminded me of... something vaguely erotic, but I didn't know why. Then it occurred to me... the shape is somewhat reminiscent of a Maxi-Pad.
Went from invasive to in-vase-ish. Beautiful work as always.
😂 Thanks

Lol, poor spider!

Sweet and simple, cant go wrong with that! I think "elegant" describes it best.🥇
Very simple and clean, I really like it! That little bit of spalting gives it character. If it ends up splitting, I think that could only add to it.
Well I was off to bed but I will always make time to see what you're turning Andy. Looks great! 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
That bark inclusion was really interesting. Wood always surprises me, thanks for the videos. 😎
That’s a cool shape. I can just picture all kinds of gourds and lil pumpkins and autumn things in this bowl. So simple yet eye catching ❤️
I like what you did with the laurel and a hardy handshake to you!
"The Sheriff is near!" 🤣
@@TXnine7nine That was my first thought, also. Thanks for giving me a chuckle and letting me know I'm not the only one.
Your comment would have been far better if written in authentic frontier gibberish! 😉

That went so nicely, it's great looking. It's very young cut, show it to us in a year please.
Cheers 👍💪✌
I can watch your videos during hours.... It's really beautiful! What a work!
Stunning piece, Andy! Really amazing work!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Bland is a good word for it - always impressive to see you use the tools (and video editing!)

Beautiful. I really like the thin walls for this piece. Thank you Andy.
Good going Andy as that was a very polite way to get rid of an unwanted guest! Thank you for sharing sir.
😂
I'm glad I caught a new Andy Phillip video before logging out.
such a beautiful & unique piece of art, love the shape, thanks for sharing Andy
Very very nice Andy you do excellent work as always
So SMOOTH. So pretty. Looks like indigenous art to me. 🤎
It's quietly lovely. I like the brown part that stayed. Keep up the good work.
Simple yet another beautiful piece of work 👍 You are the man.
Thank you very much!
I didn't know invasive trees were a thing. Learn something new every day.
Lovely and elegant due to the pale finish, the simple design that is so nice with the absence of the grain we usually see in the wood.
That wood is definitely green. Nice turning.

Love it. Another success Andy. Well done mate
You're up early today! So am I. 05:40... Blooming knee. At least you are taking my mind off it in the best way, so thank you!
Thanks 👍
That's nice, Andy, even if you think the wood is bland. I'm not one much for color or stain but I think that wood would be a future candidate.

What beautiful clear wood! I love visible woodgrain, but this is gorgeous...and so thirsty!
Now that's some fresh wood.
I loved it in its stark-white beauty! ❤❤
Beautiful winged edge bowl Andy
Thank you
Now that's some green wood!
Another stunner Andy well done 🎉❤
Another beautiful piece!!
Bland, Andy? How about pleasingly minimalist? I love it. 👍 PS: I'd have never guessed that Puff the Magic Dragon is so small. 🤣😂
😂
What a lovely bowl ❤
Thanks
Hi Andy! Best video to the breakfast 👍. Best regards from Hans and Cheers ☕🥐🥧🇦🇹
Many thanks

Another masterpiece
The shape is what makes it interesting.
I was wondering if that spider had any idea what was about to happen...😂
I was thinking it was about to be in for a wild ride, but then it was rudely blown off! 😂😂😂 Poor spider was having a bad day!
Turning a nice piece, again. Thanks.
Thank you
Lovely piece. The black marking looks like a locust imbedded in the wood 🥹
Gosh, Laurel is so pale in colour, but very pretty & that winged shape bowl is beautiful 😊
2:53 was just so satisfying
Like how once it dried it turns darken then originally was. Good work. Also, poor spider what did he ever do to you? Lol
Very lovely.
Thank you!
Its a pretty piece.❤❤❤

incredible!

Reminds me of a Brancusi sculpture ❤
Looks like a really soft wood but it made pretty wood shavings.
Airblasting the spider into the next county 😂
Art.

the darker but in the wood gives it a unique look I don’t find it that bland it’s very beautiful

Fly spider, be free 😂😂
Very good
It reminds me of the Egyptian “pillows” they find in mummies tombs.
Where did the spider end up…into next week!? Different finish to this, simple and clean..I like it

Thanks for watching.. I was thinking of adding some fractal burning to it
Ugh! Hate that stuff!! Good to see it being potentially useful for a change!
Turning green wood!
E muito talento e criatividade.
I'm wondering if it's not too late for the wood burning technique that does that jagged lightning effect to give it some character
I did think I should have added some fractal burning..
Maybe you could have done the ‘Electric Sparky’ move on it, just to liven it up a little bit ? 😀.

Beautiful shape and color
What will happen when the wood will dry?
Thanks .. There's an update in the video description
Thanks
I missed the description
@@AndyPhillipWoodturning
Is that box elder wood? Seems like a soft wood for sure
It's Laural
Did it warp or split as it dried?
There's an update in the video description
Does it twist a lot after it dries?
It hasn't yet and its over a month since I turned it .. But turning green wood can always have a chance of moving or cracking
I still think it looks striking. Is there a way to finish a piece like this without losing that really pale color? It looked very modern!
Thanks .. you could finish it with a clear lacquer if the wood was dryer..
@AndyPhillipWoodturning Thanks for the info!
My neighbors have a hedge of this stuff coming over the property line. Maybe i should make a bowl or something.
What happens when it dries?

How much is it for a wooden snowman for you to make for me?

Ah... a community service video - "10 things you can do with invasive species".
It will get some "time-warp" in the end, but the design can cope with it!
Which kind of laurel is it? I don't recognise it.
English laurel, also known in the US as privet.
0:34 You didn't use a Colt or Smith & Wesson in this job? 😉
Not bland at all beautiful
❣️
Kind of a boring wood but still a pretty bowl. You can make anything pretty.
That looked very, very green. 😅 What was the finish?

That's gonna split (?)
Man, those leaves almost looked fake & plastic - I thought they were a joke until I watched you clip them off...!

Invasive?...please explain...a delightful piece and I think 'bland' is a misleading term...'discreet' is more appropriate...thank you...dgp/uk
It's not native to the UK
@@AndyPhillipWoodturning aah...thank you
Seems like you do a lot of the same type of videos
Do you mean woodturning?
laurel? The uk invaded the world for spices only to complain when they grew too much in their gardens?
It is very probably laurel cherry, not true laurel.
😂
Looks very Japanese.
