Hello Alex! The first time i entered into a magic shop, it was in Paris, close to the Pompidou Art center. The guy in front of me respond to me by doing one of the most simple card trick ever. When I told him I am fascinated by card in magic, he post himself fromt of me, and ask me if this is what I wanted to know, and he started to turn over and over again the top card. It was the seven of heart, and boom, after a couple of turn, the seven change by the king of diamond. Since this time, I think I fall in love with the double lift move! Thank you Alex for your video!
I work with my hands everyday (electrician), and trying to pinky count is nearly impossible being that there is like 0 sensitivity in my fingers... practicing the push off and thumb count as alternatives 😊 Your tutorials are excellent btw. Thanks
Thank you so much man!! I've struggled with a clean double lift since I started getting into sleights about 14 months ago. I had almost given up, but the thumb break is what I've been missing
Great stuff, great channel - none of these were my double lift, and there's something unique about mine that none of yours, or anyone's I've seen do. I pull the card off the deck from the other axis. So rather than turning from on the East to West axis, I turn from the South to North axis. At the end of the video Alex says it must look natural - and this is so important, flashy, over-rehearsed appearing movements give the game away. If you give a deck of cards to anyone and ask them to turn over the top card, they nearly ALWAYS turn from South to North. After tidying up the deck, your hands are naturally positioned to peel the card off South/North. Try it. I am thinking of setting up a conjuring channel so maybe that'll be my first video.
Have you tried learning the Stuart Gordon double? I am now downplaying the push off it’s very nacky and hard to do but so is the Stuart Gordon. I like the fact that it takes the card away from the deck. Xavier does the push off double into the Stuart Gordon and it looks fantastic. On a side note thank you for the awesome video Alex!
@@calebim-th2iq Strike is by far the hardest. Not necessarily the hardest to do technically, but definitely the hardest to reliably get away with. You typically have a choice with it - risky, or obvious. Unfortunately, with only half a thumb, a strike and a riffle are my only two good options. I can riffle count up to 4 pretty quickly and reliably, but it still looks weird to lift a card from the back. But, done correctly, a strike looks the best, because its a very natural looking way to take a card.
@@tannerschmidt7211 My favorite thing about all art forms : what's 'easy' for one is a challenge for another. I love the Stuart Gordon double, Its my go to, and i'm good at it. But ask me to be able to do a push off double.... not a chance.
Just wanna say thanks a lot for your video presentation. It's very hard to find well-done, informative magic tutorial videos that are not based around the ego and (not funny) jokes of the creator. Yours are terse and clear. Much appreciated. Keep it up!
Alex thank you so much for this gift. Im so happy to know, that you like the Larry Jennings Snap Double. So much people hate this because its difficult and the chances to get caught are big. But this is my second go to. Greetings from switzerland...
Alex Pandrea jonathan kamms because i like to have my deck bent in a way that enables bottom deals, this makes a pinky count harder. So I do kamms double lift (get ready with index finger) Sometimes I also do that vacuum double lift, where you squeeze with your ring finger.
Intro game strong! My favorite double lift is the Blaine version with the corner push off. I wish I could do the pinky count get ready though - it's tough! (I do the thumb count from the back which is lame but it works for me).
I'm just wondering if there is any way you can do a double lift with damaged hands? I have all my fingers and thumbs intact, but limited motion and flexibility. Is there an alternative to the double lift?
Alexa..Thank you so very much for your variety and methods of performing the "Double Lift"...Personally, I I really like the "Thumb Push Off" method...and at the very end you demonstrated the bend...WoW...Honestly, just that on move (bend) gave this Newbie a better feel which produced more confidence...I did sign up as Kossxxx, Thank you Sir..
ALEX, another triumphant video. Colorgrade NOCS look great. Everyone that wants to really learn, can and will if your advice is followed and practice relentlessly. Great stuff ....AGAIN!
Thank you so much Alex. This video is like finding gold or oil in the own garden. Best video about double lifts in general, highly recommend this piece of teaching art. Great job, thumbs up
Just learning the fine detail and mechanics of card handling and your tutorials are gold. I build good habits and start on a solid foundation. Thanks for the great work
This vid is amazing and Alex is doing wonderful DLs. The main issue with DL is : every time we see a magician turning over a card from the top of the deck then turning it back again, even if it's the smoothest and best DL in the world, WE KNOW it's a DL.
It's a Big plesure to watch your videos Alex! They are beautiful, informative, easy to understand(your explanation is good), and also everytime i find something new there, So thank you and good luck!^^
For the most natural look, I love the strike double. When performing, a lot of mental horsepower is spent by not giving a tell that you're doing something sneaky. With the strike double, you don't have to focus on ignoring what you're doing with a get-ready or holding the break without flashing. At the same time, there's an advantage of the pinky count for when you want to turn over more than two cards, but this is possibly useful in fewer situations and have less ROI because of the disadvantages.
Disadvantage? The pinky count doesn’t have one. You don’t have to put focus onto doing that sleight... you are talking to the spectator and getting a break. Also there is no natural look for turning a card over.. go have 20 people turn a card over and most of them will do it differently. It’s how comfortable you feel and look while doing it
I do a top change more often than a double lift. Most of the time when I do a double it's a center double or a forcep double lift I learned from one of Alex Elmsleys books. But I just do a pinky count and a normal turnover when I do a DL. And any time I turn over a single card I do it the exact same way. Consistency is key
So a great video. I need this video because a friend of mine started with magic and his double lift looks so bad. I send him this video and I hope that he watch it until the end. I perform the classic double lift with the first finger on the top end of the long edge and the middlefinger on the bottom end of the long edge
Alex, thank you so much for such an instructive video. I am trying to improve my double lift and I have a question regarding angles. If I perform standing or sitting, but with my arms relaxed, I can manage to angle the deck to show to the spectators the face/back of the cards. This allows to not flash possible separations of the two edges of the two cards that may occur especially if the deck is a bit used. Am I correct till now? I love performing sitting at a pub's table. However, in that situation, usually the arms are blocked by the table and it is likely that the edges of the deck are more exposed. In this situation, I have been caught few times lifting 2 cards using the "book" flipping. I guess that the first kind of lifting that you show would be better. May I ask your advice on what to do or not to do in this situation?
There’s also the Strike Double, which you do by beveling the deck so you can feel 2 cards with the index finger and go right into the double lift without any get-ready.
Because one big thing that separates humans from monkeys is the humans ability to use their thumbs! Why in the world would one use their index finger trying to feel for apparently one card in the ege of the deck when you have a thumb that can push off that one card off from the top of the deck without any effort...
Q from a beginner: What cards to get? I imagine classic Bicycle cards are great to master since they're easiest to find in any given situation, so you could simply grab them and 'do a card trick' to impress anybody. But buying a more expensive deck may 'work better' for magic, but you may not have them accessible in a party scenario for instance? Any blogs to point to or simply advice for me? Thanks in advance.
Alex you're the man thank you brother I really appreciate this I actually learned "ring in shoe" from a video you put out a few yrs ago on the street..THANK YOU!.
Thank you for this tutorial . I always try to use your tips.. I like push of double lift ( without a break ) but I am still not able to do that ... still practicing this.....
Hi Alex, do you happen to have any resources you could share on handling 2 cards as one after you do the double lift? I've seen a few magicians sort of flourish a double to convince a spectator it's only one card. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe you can do a video? Thanks!
I never coment on shit but this d lift tatoral was so on point for some reason i chang my double lift all the time sometimes twice the same routine n look i can kill all these passed.and other moves ecs.but for some reason i still struggle with the double lifts...lol...i want so bad to be able to execute this move all day N make it smooth and natural like a pimp.....lol....mad props u help alot im with this one gonna keep doin wat i do n practice....lov
another way i like to keep a break after the turn-over, is to use the fleshy part of the palm under the thumb. then you can just press down with the thumb and snap up the two cards. i think X Spade taught this, too.
Alex, you literally exposed my double lift in the first ten seconds of the vid. So much for secrets...
Hello Alex! The first time i entered into a magic shop, it was in Paris, close to the Pompidou Art center. The guy in front of me respond to me by doing one of the most simple card trick ever. Thank you so much man!! I've struggled with a clean double lift since I started getting into sleights about 14 months ago. I had almost given up, but the thumb break is what I've been missing

I think the Push off Double Lift is by far the best and hardest doublelift

I like the fact that it takes the card away from the deck. Xavier does the push off double into the Stuart Gordon and it looks fantastic. On a side note thank you for the awesome video Alex!
I also think it is best, but not hardest. The stupid snap double that 52kards teaches is bad and 100% the hardest.

Pinky count
Alex Pandrea I put a comment on your post about what we wanted thank for this tutorial my Instagram is joed129
Alex Pandrea the one you did in the beginning 😊😂just kidding, push off is my favourite
Pinky count into Stuart Gordon
You are really explaining in every video that's very helpful.
One of the best TH-cam channels
Intro game strong! My favorite double lift is the Blaine version with the corner push off. I wish I could do the pinky count get ready though - it's tough! (I do the thumb count from the back which is lame but it works for me).
Same here! My favorite is Blaine's and I do a thumb count when I am not doing Blaine's.
Honestly it does just take a lot of hard work but it’s so worth it.
The pinky count is the best. Push off needs to be done in one-take; also, the card's condition and sticky fingers vary the push off as well.
oh is it "tough" for u andrei? hilarious
nice
I think the note you made about perception was the most important point you made. Great tutorial!
So good stuff man. Really appreciate how you take time to really break down sleights etc. Love all your stuff 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
thanks a lot! appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I have watched this video about 30 times this year! I love your videos and you inspired me to become a magician
I asked for help on my double lifts and I got more than I needed 👍👍👍👍👍 your the best!
Thank you very much, I am learning the first one, I love that one :) :) :) The Pandrea double lift ;)
Once again, great video, thank you very much.

You put much effort and many details. Thanks & please try to keep it going that way when teaching
Hey Alex, Im a guy from Toronto thats been learning sleight of hand for awhile, love your videos. Wish I could learn more from you!
Nice to have on you on the channel! You can learn from me every week same time same place haha :)

Awesome video! I'm here in 2022! This is just what I needed to improve the double lift!!
I appreciate what you are doing, just what I see, or more to the point, what I don't see.
Your videos have improved. I like your energy on this one.
You are the best teacher... Love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 keep posting new lessons
Thank you so much Alex. This video is like finding gold or oil in the own garden. Best video about double lifts in general, highly recommend this piece of teaching art. Great job, thumbs up
I came over here to learn that double lift now. Wish me luck. Well done btw. Bravo! Music fit perfect in the intro too! Noice haha

ZeeJYan‘s double lift from smoothZ is also very convincing. Super hard though
