- Expectancy theory is one of the most well-known theories of work motivation. It takes a rational approach toward human behavior, assuming that people make conscious decisions among alternatives. In this clip, I explain the basics of expectancy theory and some of the potential implications it has for managers.
this video is a lot simpler than my teacher's explanation !! thank you sir
Hello everyone! I'm glad so many of you have found this video helpful. Please let me know in a comment if there's another topic within organizational behavior, industrial/organizational psychology, leadership, etc. about which you'd like to know more. I'm thinking about topics for another video, so your ideas would be great. Thanks!
Ben Baran
This one of the best theories that deals with motivational allowances
Thanks, because i have a presentation tomorrow and this video helped me a lot...
Thank you sir, this the first time I really understand the motivation theories, understand concepts not just facts. So simple so creative and real not complicated.
That is really piece of good work.
Great stuff..Thanks for your effort in this video :D
A very down to earth and practical explanation for E. T. This helps me connects the dots from theory to the real world of work, managers, and motivation.
Thank you. 8/30/2018-19

Hi Ben
Thank you so much for your vid. It makes a lot more sense now! Could you perhaps give us some info regarding how the three elements of organizational behavior fit into each other?
HI Jacques! I'm glad this was helpful for you. Tell me more about what you mean by the three elements of organizational behavior (there are lots of ways to think about this). Thanks!
Thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful explanation. I'm currently taking a work motivation class and was wondering if you had any information as to applying the psychology of work motivation to control theory, specifically the negative feedback loop. I've seen videos apply this with objects, but haven't been able to find one which applies the theory to people/employees. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated as I'm not grasping the lecture content in class.
Thanks! Regarding control theory, first, I'm not an expert. But I can say it's not quite as mainstream of an employee motivation theory as goal setting, expectancy, or equity theories. My understanding of control theory as it pertains to employee motivation is that it assumes that we seek to reduce or eliminate discrepancies between our current state and a desired state. With control theory, that desired state is often one that is imposed upon the employee. It assumes we're machines, of sorts, and that once we reach a desired state, the "thermostat" switches off, and we're satisfied (because the negative feedback is removed).
interesting. Thanks.
Thanks and yeah thanks again coz I'm writing tomorrow
Hi Mr Baran, do u teach business studies for A level?
Hi Cynthia! I'm not sure what you mean by "A level," but I teach business at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Sorry it's undergraduate..
Do u have any video clip about the topic of Motivation In Practice?
The theory is great, but the explanation was rather choppy. Very hard to quote because there were so many run-on sentences.
