  • In this video, Kellie and our very own Njoki Ngumi discuss balancing family responsibility with personal financial goals, black tax, negotiating for pay increases and reasons for starting and keeping side businesses.
Kellie has been running personal finance education on her blog and Twitter page, with a goal to making personal finance information more accessible to people who do not have formal finance education. During the day, she works as the Chief Investments Officer at East African Power where she manages the fundraising for power projects in East, Central, and Southern Africa.

Such an important conversation to have especially in a situation where our parents are manipulative and controlling

Very practical advice. It is easy to see how poverty is propagated through various generations. The parents place burden on their kids who spend their entire working life doing their parents' duties, like taking care of siblings. In turn the children are never able to plan for their retirement and end up relying on their kids as well. And the cycle continues.

Njoki's expression when Kellie talks about women staying in jobs because "the company is flexible" is all of us 😂😂
