Loved watching this! I like the shapes and simplicity of the house, really natural and earthly. You both doing so good job! I mean, building a house isn't easy... Happy to see you got strong hands to help 😄
Hi, there was a profi around to calculate it. I wouldn't risk it with trial and error as the rafters have to fit in the center. I did make some calculations beforehand using a book on reciprocal frame architecture (PDF online) and that actually came to the same numbers. The calculation is based on the number and size of the rafters and the size of the middle opening, or the desired maximum height (to choose from the latter two as they influence each other).
I don't care if it is you and your friends, SAFETY FIRST. The guy at 4:15 who climbs up the scaffold and the stands outside (!!) of the building to hold the rafter, WTF.
You've shown nothing of the actual process of tying the rafters together at the centre point of the roof and you've not explained any of the physics involved in this roof design. Poor video.
Hello Andrew. We did not make the video as an instruction on how to built a roof. We only show what we did and only make videos at the moments that we think of it. We try to build a house, we do not build or film just to make TH-cam content. For making a reciprocal roof we recommend to consult an expert, and not to go only by TH-cam videos.
Thanks for sharing. Greetings from the LooseNatural farm in Andalusia Spain where we currently live through a drought and we are creating swales
Been planning this style house for a few years. Thank you for this video. I too would love to see the finished house.
Did you ever build it luv?
Inspiring structure and build. Thank you for sharing, would love to see it when completed .
very cool roof.

Thank you! We were indeed very happy with some extra people on that day.
Love it, what is the diameter of the circle, length of the roof logs, I am looking forward to using it for my build. Thank you very much
Hi, the diameter of the skylight is 1m. I think the rafters were 8m or longer, but the length will depend on the angle that you want to make.
Maravilha...Excelente idéia e uma beleza de execução...Parabéns a TODOS...Abraços...
I think the ORIGINAL reciprocal roof was the TIPI frame! It, too goes together a lot like this!
indeed, but then the center connects a bit differently. It's anyway some manauvring with heavy long poles ;)
Witam. Belki są na samej górze skręcone wkrętami ?
Tak
how did you find teh higt of the post supporting the first rafter - and the roof pitch - trial an error or calculation?

👍👍👍
And safety has flown out the window!
Bhp? Nie wiem, nie znam, nie słyszałem 😉😀!
Thanks.. We know.. over time the safety equipment gets less used. The downside of getting (too) confident.
