Yo - there’s nothing wrong with the car - All these Subaru’s need to reset the idle position sensor etc after the battery is disconnected. Just needs a few days of normal driving to relearn itself.
Any codes popped up? Did your Cobb read anything unusual prior to it shutting off? Also Oil catch can is a must for these cars. Than and I would check the gap in spark plugs which I’m assuming y’all checked prior to putting in even though they are “pregapped” and another thing you may want take in consideration, won’t really affect it turning off but can check the turbo itself.
We are familiar with the brake light staying on, could mean that your handbrake is sticking, I would try tightening it, as far as the battery light I have never seen it stay on but would assume that means low voltage?
Yea I had the same problem, but now it's burns a little bit faster after the upgrades. What I was told either the oil is going through the valve and I need a catch can. Also told that they are known for burning oil. So any more info can you please relay some?
WCKD Street Media yea that would be cool. Depending how I push my car, I always burn oil and would have to put more in almost every couple weeks or so.
Jack Ochukpue chances are you may have an oil leak with oil burning on the cat converter. This happened to me months ago and blew my engine because of negligence. Subaru’s, as far as I know, are NOTORIOUS for pissing oil like it’s nobodies business. I drive 80 miles a day to and from work so excessive oil burned didn’t help. Just my $0.02.
Subaru 2.5 burn oil Subaru said pretty much thats what they do keep it toped off to bad we are not going to recall i wonder if they messed up the ring gap
Good video as always. However I'm glad that you guys are going to add other types of content. I'm excited for that and can't wait to see you next video.
Be aware that a sharp increase in oil consumption could be cracked ring lands. Keep an eye on it, if its ring lands you will soon have oil fouled plugs and have trouble keeping enough oil in it.
@@trikksster absolutely that is where it would go...I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you go ahead and tear it down now you may be able to save the block and get away with replacing the pistons...yeah replace them all even if they look ok. And new rings everywhere...and running a hone thru the bore should clean it up if the bore with the bad piston isn't scarred up. And another thing, set your end gap on the wider side. There is some evidence that suggests that the stock end gaps are too small and when the ring gets hot, the gap closes up and the ring binds up breaking the ring land. So I would set them a few thousandths more than is recommended. Good luck with your rebuild.
@@trikksster If the oil ends up fouling the plugs the only place that residue goes is out the exhaust. You need professional help with that car. Ask around locally and find a place that can competently rebuild the engine and knows subarus like the back of their hand. Then follow their instructions to the letter with the new engine.
Gap your plugs. How would changing the plugs slow oil burn?
Right! I am trying to find a way to fix the problem of oil burning not spark plugs.

So did you find out what the issue was?

+Robert baquero no codes, but definitely going to look into a catch can 👍🏽
Is this a hybrid motor? If not, those are the incorrect length plugs.
Mate I have a WRX 300 limited addition and for some reason the battery light and handbrake light is on when I'm driving ?.

From what I understand is the handbrake and battery lights flashing is a code for a bad alternator. I have those lights on as well

Chino Laos what we can do is have a video with Ian answering any motor related questions that people would want to ask, would that be good?
WCKD Street Media yea that would be cool. Depending how I push my car, I always burn oil and would have to put more in almost every couple weeks or so.
Chino Laos awesome well we will absolutely start planning a Q&A video!
How much oil are you consuming before interval?
And do a compression check the low cylinder is the one with the cracked ring lands...
7:00 jesus...who repainted that passengers door? Stevie Wonder?
Lol
What is this? Fake it til you make it?
You should have a compression check.
Will do for sure 👍🏽
You own't fix that oil burning problem short of a short a new engine.
Every Subaru I've ever owned start that smell around 5 years. What is it?
Subaru got a problem with that engine and they know it
Did you gap the spark plugs correctly? They have to be gapped correctly when you change them or else car wont run right at all
Krzysztof Kunka yes, we had Ian check it, said this gap would be better, he's also a Subaru technician so we're thankful for his guidance
What would it mean if I am driving and my 2000 Subaru Outback stops working and I smell the rubber/oil smell from inside he car

Short block is the culprit so I have been told, by Subaru.
The ecu was probably resetting itself if u unplugged the battery for a few hours
Makes sense! Thanks!
WCKD Street Media that’s exactly what it was. I had the same scare. Just google it.

+👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽1BIG tuna
You didn't gap the plugs
They usually come pre gapped pretty close to specs
Beavis & Butthead.
The EJ20 love/hate relationship
Damn , where do you two go for your hairstyles? Pet shop?
Send some pics of your hair, with you on the can-am plz
Just found your channel 👍 Love the Subaru content. Did you figure out the oil burning issue?
The main fix that still needs to be done is an air to oil separator, and a catch can, these Subaru motors just naturally burn oil with oem parts
IAG all the way🙌🏼

would the burnt oil be going out the exhaust? mine is burning a shitload right now and blowing it out the exhaust... trying to diagnose it

You been had the skills to pay the bills you’ll be straight
you need a tune for your spark plugs
i hope your joking
PERSEUS no he’s bein fr. If it’s no recommended stock these engines are VERY tedious and they do need it for every little thing
He said pvc valve 😂🤣
I'm not a dude.......dude
What a waste.
