    • @vg4902
      @vg4902 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      😄 The Trax is FWD, gas only, and uses a POS 3-Cylinder engine with 137HP & 162lb/ft. The Hornet R/T is AWD, PHEV, has Brembo Brakes, Adaptive Dampers with the Track Pack, can run on electric only, gas only, or both. Total power output is 288HP & 387lb/ft while getting better fuel economy than the Trax. Heck, the electric motor alone puts out similar power to the Trax at 121HP & 184 lb/ft. That's just talking about the powertrain.

    This is a great example where the press fleet should have a base model

  • @EOtekk
    @EOtekk ปีที่แล้ว +13

    In regards to the powertrain, the occasional inconsistencies are a consequence of the multi-air technology impregnated into these engines. I've owned an Alfa Romeo product for 4 years and there have been times where the engine just feels like it fell asleep. The intake valves are actuated using independent hydraulic solenoids rather than a conventional camshaft. This allows for infinitely variable timing of the valve behavior, which is good for efficiency, but at the expense of creating a slower response compared to a conventional mechanical operation. If you are driving spiritedly and the engine knows you are driving spiritedly, it will produce power as needed. However, it does not like sharp transitions between slow and aggressive driving because the ECU needs time to adjust the valve behavior.

    • @dd4886
      @dd4886 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the explanation. Btw, is this technology/ design limited to the Alfa Romeos or is it there in all econobox SUVs including the Japanese ones?

    Dodge tends to get away with their pricing because of the style and power of motors they are using but I also feel the Hornet is grossly over priced. I'm sure some will buy them but I just don't think they are worth it and they will be way cheaper in a couple years on the used market and better incentives come along on the new ones when these sit on lots.

    Price is robbery, but I had a Hornet R/T as a rental when my Grand Cherokee was getting work done, and I actually really loved it. I’m 6’5 and fit super comfortably, it was really zippy, my only downsides are the transmission, it is finicky, and the High Beams. I live on a lot of unlit roads at night, and for some reason the automatic High Beams would not turn on. When I turned the feature off the High Beams really did not make that great of a difference. It’s AMAZING on gas tho, I drove 70 miles, all highway, and for having the car for 24 hours only put 2 Gallons in to top it off

  • @BoopSnoot

    I preordered one of these, and seven months later after massive delays I finally saw it and they got my order wrong, it was without the blacktop package. Word to the wise, the base silver wheels are comically ugly, and there are virtually no aftermarket options. While the base model is inexpensive, packages quickly drive it into VERY expensive territory for a subcompact crossover. At MSRP, I can't recommend one, and am glad I wasn't able to wait and picked up a Nissan Rogue instead as its much roomier and better fuel economy and its base trim was not comically ugly like the base Hornet is.

    I was gonna make a joke about the old Dodge Hornet rolling in its grave like “look how they massacred my boy” but instead im reading that it’s a $50k USD car and that’s just so far beyond insane. I was looking at some small/mid sized SUVs and regular cars were around $50k. Just spend the extra money and get an X3 with the M40i engine at that point (that’s what I did 😜)

    $50k it would be a really hard sale for us, We already own its smaller sibling the 2018 Jeep Renegade which we love dearly 5 years of ownership and not one issue whatsoever which we bought for $18k after discounts and some haggling. If the pricing was in the $40k range then it would be a decent proprosistion. Now if they ever release the Hornet GLH Package We might consider purchasing a Hornet. We are empty nesters and the smaller CUV are a better fit. But when a CUV steps in at $50k that is Dodge Durango GT plus territory so you might as well step up at that price point.

    Great review and good point about the interior, it is the same for 30k and 50k and at 30k the interior is like peers...50k it is well below peers. The same goes with speed at 30k 6.5 is good at 50k with power shot 5.6 is below many peers. A Volvo S60 PHEV has 41 miles electric range and 4.6 zero to 60 for 50k. It should also be mentioned that the mileage for gas is terrible. A Volvo XC40 has better mileage, speed, interior, quality and options for the same price (ICE only). I was hoping Dodge created a good car, but it looks like dodge got stung.

    Lots of haters. Some of it is understandable based on the sticker. I received 10k EV credit on the RT before haggle. 46k sticker. Brought prices to 36k. Haggled down another $1060. Leased $360 a month 15k miles a year with 6k down. Coming from a Mustang. Gave me a ton for Mustang. 53k 4 1/2 years old. Received 7k less than I paid. Numbers worked for me. I’m getting 33 mile all electric range. Handles great & zippy. Koni suspension system & Brembo brakes. RT has a ton of safety & tech features standard. Love the blacktop package. I’m not a follower, so I checked it out for myself and decided it was a fit for me. A few electronic bug so far, but all in all I’m happy with it. You may be forgetting that it’s not a Dodge product at all, it’s an Alfa Romeo Tonale. Nowhere on the car is there any mention of Dodge besides the slashes.
