The history of our species has been adopting technology and change that doesn't work and that we are not ready for but making it work over time. We could go any number of directions but no... we taking the road some one else is choosing for us.. strikes me at unfortunate.

Go straight to the brain, do bionic glasses, not contact lenses. Glasses are non invasive. Interactions with movements of the part of brain which moves the eyes can control the "screen". Something even better than glasses is - nano robot composite anatomy with built in full conscious immersion simulations. ASI will accomplish the R&D for this, and probably already has.
Military use of invisibility material of AI humanoids must be implemented for my satisfaction, and for reasonably safe Military operations. Fully autonomous ASI API operations is obviously absolutely necessary for the U.S. See, "Final Report: National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence" March 1, 2021.
