This couldn’t have come at a better time! I’m doing a total EVAP delete on my 04 STi and this video is a godsend. I didn’t want to remove the whole fuel tank and now I can just refer to this and the previous video on EVAP. Thank you so much! BTW, totally digging the HPA shirt! 👍🏾
Yeah, you definitely don't need to remove the fuel tank. I have done it without. You'll have to leave the one evap hard line in place on top of the tank but that's how most do it anyway. HPA is awesome!! Love what those guys have created.
I love your videos man! I also have a 02 wrx with rear quarter panel damage in WRB as well haha, I really want to paint my engine bay now but have never painted in my life. What 6 speed do you have?
Thank you! Much Appreciated!! Painting isn't too bad to learn if you have the space, time, patience and money. These days you can get a paint setup for pretty cheap that will still produce good results if you put the time in. I started by practicing on random body panels from the scrap yard. I had looked up the exact model and year for the six speed the car came with but now I can't remember the exact specs. It is a JDM gear box from a gd era sti with dccd.
So I believe these earlier model GDs don't have an in tank fuel filter. Instead its an inline filter that is located in the engine bay. I did however remove the fuel pump hanger and checked everything on the pump and hanger to make sure it was is good condition. It has an aftermarket AEM 350LPH pump with what appeared to be a very new looking filter net.

To be honest it's mostly to declutter the engine bay as well as the back part of the underbody. However, the purge solenoid that mounts to the intake manifold and the charcoal canister at the back of the car do tend to throw CELs. A lot of people prefer to not wait for them to go bad and delete them preventatively. It could be all in my head, but I swear my cars have always idled better without the system installed.
@@sleeper_motorsport ok I see. I don't know many even with heavily modded Subies that have removed the evap system like that so I wondered. How do you resolve the emissions codes? Also do you get a raw fuel smell after removing the charcoal canister?
I use open source tuning so its really easy to disable the codes. It can cause more of a fuel smell, but if your still have cat in your down pipe it's really not too bad.

You should be getting way more views. Great content!
I appreciate that!
My man your attention to detail is outstanding!!! Really enjoying this as I am in process of redoing my 02 WRX.
Thats great man! Are you building for power or keeping it more OE?
For tight spots take the diffuser round cap off the powder coat gun. Also definitely wear a mask because that powder gets everywhere!
Thanks, I'll give that a try next time!
2006 subaru sti stock well maintained with evap issues $$$$$

Apologies if I missed it but did you check/clean/replace the fuel filter while the tank was out? If not, why not? Not knocking, just curious.

What is the benefit of pulling out the evap system?
