      If the guitars were up a bit, it would make Maynard's job SO much easier. It's very difficult to stay in pitch as only BASS as a reference point for most people. Even Maynard, as great as he is.

      @@Parrish_Muhoberac There is absolutely no way of knowing what Maynard's in ear mix was for this performance. The mix we're hearing is no indication of what he's working with. Great performance all the way around, he and the band are killing it.

      @@ChadHuskey Yeah, definitely, Chad. I should have known, as I've been a sound engineer for 30 years. But I was actually coming to Maynard's defence, because asI mentioned, coming from 42 years of professional singing, it takes a lot of control to have a 5 octave range like Maynard does, and sing high As all the time without your voice breaking. Hope I didn't come across the wrong way.

      Keep holding on, those thoughts have infected me for several long periods in my life. If you knew someone who verbalized those same thoughts about themselves, you would tell them they are believing lies, because all but the psychopaths can recognize the intrinsic worth in every human being. Has anyone here remembered he's like 55 years old? Also, high Ab notes are very hard to continuously sing throughout a whole set without ruining your voice. TOOL played in Sydney, Australia, recently.. They DIDN'T play 7empest! however, they DID play a very long version of "PART OF ME" from OPIATE EP... and he SCREAMED his lungs out through the whole thing. Then, next, they played "DESCENDING"...and through that 10 minute version of total manic screams, he sang Descending PERFECTLY... So, I'm hoping people will agree with this idea... Every Tool album sends a message. This one is just as unique as their others. So what is the point of SCREECHING, yelling, etc, when the message doesn't warrant it? It would equate to singing a death metal style of "Happy Birthday" to your 3 year old child. Also, hey, I've been a professional singer worldwide for 40 years. As SIMPLE as these melodies on Fear Inoculum may seem, believe me. IT ISN'T. Takes a lot of control.

    • @railgap
      @railgap 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the main trick is not to actually scream, but to learn how to immitate a scream at normal volume, then let the amps do the rest. Turn off the PA and you wouldn't be able to hear MJK's 'scream' from the other side of the stage. New vocalists who do not learn this early, tend to lose their voices a lot trying to actually scream through every gig. ;)

    • @Parrish_Muhoberac
      @Parrish_Muhoberac 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@railgap Hi there, Railgap.. yes, you have a very good point. I've been a professional singer/guitar/bassist/drummer/producer for 30 years.. and you're totally right. Microphone distance, and having a pro engineer live is EXACTLY how it works. Chino Moreno from Deftones is a great example of what you said. Their first 2 albums he was really SCREAMING into a Shure Beta 87 and 58 mic. He went through surgery cos his vocal cords were Wrecked, Then went through some vocal coaching before doing the White Pony album, where his "Screams" became very controlled. Dont ask me how I know this, all I can say is it's TRUE, and you made a very good call in pointing it out. I do some insane controlled screaming that goes for 32 bars, it's online if you're interested in hearing it, crossed with Tuvan Throat Singing! Haha.. deftones cover!

    • @Parrish_Muhoberac
      @Parrish_Muhoberac 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@railgap hey look up soundcloud "covering our asses" rocket skates.. its a cover. I do vocals.. lots of "controlled screaming" like you mentioned, but also "Tuvan Throat Singing" in the bridge (singing 3 notes at once), 16 bars without a breath.

      @Jennifer Lee Hi Jennifer, I didn't mean that. I too, hardly talk unless necessary but for 30 years as soon as I am on stage, all these emotions come out in my voice. It shocks the people I know so well. I'm saying he's RESERVED until the RIGHT TIME! doesn't that make sense? I would never criticise Maynard, as he is responsible for being the musician I am today. And, I'm a very good one.

    • @Parrish_Muhoberac

      Jennifer Lee and it is an a solute MYRIAD of things to think about at once to be a professional performer. Trust me. I'd never criticiE Maynard. I was sticking up for him.
