I'm crafting a remarkable double-edged Bowie knife. I begin by creating a stunning blade using Damascus. You can see the meticulous process of forging the blade, welding tiles together, and ensuring a uniform pattern in the Damascus steel.
I then hardened and tempered the blade to perfection. I meticulously grind and hand-sand the blade to 600 grit, revealing the breathtaking Damascus pattern. After a quick etch to showcase the pattern.
Then, a big explosion occurs nearby due to a ruptured moisture collection system, sending thousands of tiny beads all over my workshop.
Overall, it's an extraordinary journey, resulting in a truly unique and beautiful Bowie knife blade.

Hey, when you're on the surface plate you can use a dial test indicator by gently sliding the zero's needle along the blade, it will show clearly if there is any warp, a Stand can be had on fb second has for like 20 bucks and a new dial test indicator from mitutoyo is about 40 bucks. Will guarantee you parallel, flat and consistent.
You know It's a good month when Kyle uploads. Can't wait for this new project!
That hard stare while sanding is the funniest, nonchalant thing I’ve seen ever btw
The proof of a genuine proffesional craftsman is to pass on their knowledge and skills to others. They know that their knowledge and artistic skills is inpossible to copy. But it is an inspiration and push those who want to make a incredible knife.
Kyle’s videos are always, always worth the wait.
You got me watching the entire video because of your craftsmanship, but you got me subbing with your hand sanding camera angle underneath the bench without breaking eye contact 😂😂😂
I laughed out loud for the sanding and the coffee sip was a gut laugh. TY, Mr. Royer!
Never seen such workmanship before I started seeing your videos here, it is beautiful.
Your love and skill for forging and creating beautiful knives makes me want to strive and reach even higher in my field.
You must have gained that master smith status now I can’t see anyone being much better than you, your stuff is amazing I can only dream of owning something this beautiful
Please don't use pvc pipe and fittings for compressed air. As you found out it can very dangerous. Thank goodness you weren't injured.
No doubt you make some of the most beautiful knives ever.
10/10 voiceover skills! 20/10 knifemaking skills! Always fun watching the precision of your process, Kyle! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Thanks Boys. What an amazing process. I'm glad nobody was injured in your shop mishap. Anxious for part 2.
Nobody comes close on your Damascus patterns. Amazing.
Man, super excited to see another stone handle, your last one was beautiful!
Kyle, it's less than two weeks since I discovered your amazing channel. It inspired me to up my own knifemaking within the limits of the tools I have. I even had a go at making a copper inlay onto a brass piece for my practice project (inspired by you). All I had was a small dremel, a homemade iron tool for hammering on, and copper sheath which I had to cut into wires. It actually turned out better than expected although the edges were not quite as crisp as on your inlays, but I got no visible gaps or anything. I also am (at this very moment I am writing this) in my shop doing the finishing touches after applying laqur. I do not forge my own blades yet, because I want to master making the rest first to a satisfying level. I often just buy big kitchen knifes at thrift stores and cut the blade into whatever shape I want, but without overheating or compromising the quality of the steel, but this is mostly for my smaller knifes like mushroom knifes and such. For bigger projects I buy blades from different blacksmiths around here in Scandinavia. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know you have pushed another sucker down the rabbit-hole to perfection. Thanks, Kyle! Big respect to your skills both as a designer, craftsman and blacksmith, and all those pretty tools you have to play with. I like my ambitions to be near unreachable, and to me that's your stuff. It's nice to know I have a long way of improving myself and upgrading my tools to get anywhere near your level. Keep it up mate, and so to your Dad & co. 🫡✊️
Glad no one got hurt in the explosion. You are inspiring and your attitude to life and your craft is truly humbling. Thank you for sharing 👍
Dude I'm sure you've heard this too many times, but you are an absolute artist! I've been watching for a few years and you've always been so generous with your knowledge thank you. I love to make knives but I also love to watch you do it😅
바다건너 나라에서 살고 있지만 정말 놀라운 집중력과기술을 가지고 계시네요 칭찬합니다 😊😊😊
Hey 👋 buddy, nice to see you back in the house, bro 👌 blessings 🙌 🙏
The time and effort that went into this knife are impressive. The dubbing during the etch made me think of Godzilla movies. The pattern itself is mesmerizing- can't wait to see the final product.
This unique man demonstrates the value ($), planning, skill, inovation, artistic illumination, control of all facets of "knife making" as well as a teacher. Notice he does not always have the latest equipment, however that is not the source of his success, he understands the medium. I never tire of watching his vids. I am so embarrased with my poor attempts at making pointy, sharp things..suitable for gardening..maybe.
It's very, very rare I say... Yes I'd trust this man from USA to create a perfect blade... But Mr K. Royer, yes 100% I'd trust his skills. Amazing
Hahaha... love the filing while staring and coffee sipping. Your work is timeless. Remarkable. Fasinating to watch. Awesome videos. Even more amazing art. You are a Master!
This is Mastery of Craft. As an Autistic person, I can appreciate the level of dedication and detail you work to.
And 💥BOOM💥 goes the dynamite...aka PVC pipe!! The bowie is looking beautiful... can't wait to see the finished product!!
Thank you Kyle for the PDF. I'm glad nobody got hurt.
There's something so wholesome to watch your videos. In focus is, of course, mastery in progress. Converting materials to art. But it's so much more, from the little funny faces while grinding (it's easy to goof around on video I've noticed but you do it in a way that clearly stems from a frustration or something one can identify with. It's subtle) to the marbleous (sorry!) side stories. Not to mention context and reflection - like the story of the table or how you come to be a knife maker. And I do think the feeling of you guys being in this together as a family is quite important to the mix too.
Looking forward to see the finished knife here, as usual! Keep up the good work guys! Love from Sweden, Europe
Looking at. ROYER'S blades make me feel completely inept!
Wow such artwork. I see this no where else.
My God!! You guys have done it again! She is beautiful! Can’t wait to see the blue stone handle dance again the gun glued fittings! O Lord! You are an artist Kyle!
So I'm just sitting here with my mouth agape😮
You are an amazing artist when it involves the FORGE. Wow Your Bowie knife is one the most beautiful patterns I've ever seen on a knife. Nothing but Respect for you.
Beautiful blade! Thanks for sharing your process. It makes me reflect on my practices and setup, especially at the press.
As a homeschooler and knifemaker myself, Kyle gives me loads of inspiration...will def be taking your courses when i get some side money
A new forge! That sounds like a job for Dad, I am surprised he wasn't making one 2 seconds after you said it
Liked just because I love the channel. I wish TH-cam allowed a second like just for the funny faces you made while hand-sanding the blade.
I love this build so far!!! That pattern is amazing!!!
Wonderful job! May God bless you so much for this gift! I'm of Brazil!
My goodness you're the best I've ever seen. I have been working with wood for many years and I love grain patterns. Inlays can be beautiful but I can't believe my eyes you make metal beautiful. Wow I'm shocked. Good for you and your family!
That stare into the camera while sanding cracked me up 😂
Your work Def speaks for itself on the results!!! Your work is second To NONE!!! You have the cleanest welds and patterns ever forged in steel!!! One of my life dreams is to have one of your knives!!! I Love them All so much!!! I have tons of Damascus, but I have nothing even close to the quality of your work. Your worst (to you) piece is what knife makers dream of making it to!!! And you're so far beyond your worst piece it's unbelievable!!!
"My billets keep getting longer and longer". Like a boss.
You're my favorite blacksmith Kyle.
My personal preference on a big bowie includes a nice finger choil to "choke up" on the blade.
That looks absolutely awesome!!! I want to learn that pattern! Good job Kyle, your Damascus patters are unequivocally the best out there. Thanks for the video.
I look forward to when you complete the knife and it is good to hear no one was hurt when the pipe blue.
Sir, you are the rembrant of blades!
I'm glad no one was hurt, but for future reference, PVC is not recommended for compressed air systems. It typically can't handle the pressures and fragments when it blows.
Beautiful pattern... actually the best Damascus pattern I have ever seen.
Nothing like sanding, sanding and more sanding.. stunning finish👍
Glad nobody got hurt in that explosion. Beautiful knife. Loved watching the process.
Love watching him make mosaic damascus! 🍻
thanks for sharing Kyle, hugely inspirational
Like seriously how is this possible, God has blessed you with a gift thank you for sharing to the world we need to see your craftsmanship its out the gate 💪🏽💯
So waiting to see the rest of this build. Your knives are so amazing to see.
What an incredible blade. Thank you for sharing your processes with us. I always learn new things watching your videos. I started making knives in March of this year and every new knife is greatly improved over the last. My humble forge is a work in progress as I continue to tool up as resources allow. Power tools like power hammer, shop press and specialty ovens will come one day.
I love that Billy Corgan took up knife making ❤
Please upload more, your work is inspiring
You should be very proud Kyle! Your work is awesome!
Love the videos in this format. Can't wait to see the rest of them and the finished knife!
Seeing a new Kyle Royer vid in my feed always puts a smile on my face :)
Always an extreme pleasure to watch one of your videos.
man, you are totally insane, thank god! love your work to bits
Stunning piece of work!
The craftsmanship is top notch 👌🏿 🔥🔥🔥
The stare at the camera while sanding had me rolling.
Oh btw, PVC and compressed air dont mix. But now you know that
This is one of your best videos by far! The commentary is great and the finished product looks amazing keep it up man❤️
Love your and your dad's work man......keep doing what you do
Hey thanks my friend.
Dad
You are an absolute artist with making blades the pattern is very beautiful great work
WOW, amazing results. definitely a piece of Art
Another masterpiece, love watching your channel.
I like that you have a little fun with hand sanding 😂 because I know it's tedious
Just wonderful you are a real talent
So Excited for this build, and more excited for the stone handle, the other one was amazing, but purple isn’t my favorite, but blue is!!!!🎉
Awesome, love your work!
Another masterpiece in the making, love your work dude 🤙
yay! new project from Kyle! for a future project, I would LOVE to see you make a mosaic Damascus rapier. if you already made one, could you send me a link for the playlist?
also, I only recently became aware that Will Willis, the host of Forged In Fire is no longer the host, someone else is. But I saw him in an interview about why he left the show, and as he listed his reasons, I could see why. will miss Will.
You are on a different level than anyone else.
I hope to own one of your knives in my lifetime.
Your work is just simply amazing.
….. Tom
Every single time you make any blade I do admire your work. This time you got me concerned that you still not using any coolant on your surface grinder. If you used cooling liquid you wouldn't get problem with heat bending your blade while grinding. I can see that you have pipe to direct it to your stone. have a look if you have sump pump fitted and start using it. It will help you a lot in this operation
Looking at the camera while hand sanding was awesome. That made me laugh. Well done.
Love the new background!
OMG! Man that's awesome! I have to be honest, I've been working on other projects lately and haven't even watched the knife maker plus lessons but I'm subbed 👌. I still remember that first class! I learned so much. Thanks again for all of the great content and your art.
This one is hilarious. I'm glad everyone is okay after the explosion. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
Fantastic work as always. I'd have to describe your style as meticulous, which is a good thing.
Stunning.
freaking amazing work Kyle.
Gorgeous!
Another fascinating project to watch you make.
It's coming together nicely. The pattern is stunning.
Hope your blood pressure has normalised after the explosion! Hope you were all OK and no injuries
That's awesome looking! I love making giant bowies! Your work is motivating and inspiring! I need to up my skill set!
Woah, that's just straight up gorgeous 😮
I like the face while hand sanding, it's fun =D
Kyle I draw and I’ll tell you this much ,you make the best Bowie knives I’ve ever seen
Beautiful looking pattern in that blade, top job 👍 Regards from Down Under .
Wow, even mastersmiths' blades warp during HT! I've had two 1/4" thick blades do this recently even though they were spine-down in my Evenheat and the bevels were even, and beat myself up because I couldn't figure out what I'd done wrong. Beautiful mosaic!
Beautiful
Brilliant!!
Wicked beauty.
Man that thing is beautiful man.
The hand sanding segment really got me XD
It was good, a work of art, congratulations on the result obtained. Silvio from Brazil 🇧🇷.
amazing work
