My parents immigrated from Vietnam in 1995 and in doing so, my dad gave up his prestigious career as a college professor just so my sister and I could have a better life in the US. He went from a well-known chemistry professor to a simple man, lugging 50 lbs boxes in a warehouse for 10-12 hours a day on minimum wage. But never once did he complain. Never once did he lament about his choice. He sacrificed everything and to this day still asks for nothing but our happiness.
No, Asians are always known as the "perpetual foreigner". They sacrificed what they had in another country so they could come to the United States for a new life. These aren't "Foreign Stories" this is an "American Story", a story that has started since the time the nation was founded.
Wait what if they gave these women the chance to be like a teacher or a lawyer for a day?? That'd be such a cool way to give back to these people who have sacrificed SO much!
I am Vietnamese and the Vietnamese mom almost made me tear up because, as my mom and history told me, it was a very rough time for my grandfather's family. The fact that she got through it and feel happy at what she does, makes me smile.
My mom and dad were immigrants from Bangladesh, my dad wanted to be an ambassador and my dad and I had this chat like on Wednesday on how he couldn’t become that job because he didn’t have the knowledge. And he said “You’ll make me very proud, I won’t be able to describe how proud I’ll be of you.” That made me realize “oh my gosh” I need to make him proud.
Wholly beautiful. We'll never quite be able to grasp how much our parents sacrificed for the sake of providing us with better futures when they moved to new lands. May we always make them fiercely proud and may we never take their sacrifices for granted. God bless you all 💖
Near the end I got a bit teary, this was so beautiful and emotional. They made honorable sacrifices that gave their children the future they wanted and it's beautiful to see such love for their children.
This is such a beautiful video. Thank you grandma, grandpa,Mom and dad for all the things that you have sacrificed for us,we truly appreciate it. No matter what,we will not let you down.
I relate to this a lot since I grew up with my brother and a single mom, with her having to give up many many things for me and my brother and even though I’m 15 and my older brother is 20 now (later on we got a little bro! He’s 6 now) she STILL gives things up for us so I just try to help as much as I can, the smallest things can make a huge difference in your parent’s day, show them you love them and are grateful 💕
OML 😢 ... Each family has a different story and each is Beautiful in it own way. 🖤 Didn't think I would be so emotional over this, b/c I didn't think I would relate to it. Love to these Families 🖤
Now I'm tearing. This is so sweet. I love getting to know more about my parents when they tell me about their lives growing up in the Philippines. It's amazing how each of us has a story, but we don't necessarily know about it unless we ask.
you guys, they shoot this on a weekday. sometimes people aren't free y'know? also... if you want a south asian one, i watched a BF video where south asian parents teach their kids how to cook Biryani. it's cute.
as a filipino, i can relate to each one of them both mothers and children but the Vietnamese mom really got me.. her frustration to be a teacher is sooo heart-melting.. she would be a very passionate teacher if it happened..you can see that in her eyes..she even said that she is like a teacher coz she teaches others in her work,, very touching....and it is sad coz she is more like dont have a choice but to draw back her dreams before not because of just a normal reason but because of WAR..she is a victim of war that she cant chase her dreams and thats why my heart is so affected...
omg i cried so much because i see my asian parents in them and i truly appreciate my parents for all the sacrifices they have made for me. please respect your parents regardless of whether they are asian or not - every parent makes sacrifices for their child
I realize that I didn't know my mom's dream. But my dad has been pursuing his and he just reached the top of what he's pursuing. I am very happy for him.
4:34 made me realize that I too am afraid of that. My father passed away when my sister and I were still in college. At my graduation, and later my sister’s, my mom cried not just because she was so proud, but also because she wished my dad had been there to see us.
It is bitter sweet for me... I am living a life that i can finally give my mom a life that she can enjoy, give her material things she didn't have before at the same time giving her the love and care that my wife and my kids can offer. On the flipside I am sad that my Dad passed away just couple of years before i'am able to let them both experience all of this. I wish he is still with us, i'am damn sure he will have a blast enjoying things he haven't experienced before.
I AM CRYING. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I think some of us with immigrant parents sometimes take for granted of all the hardships that they have done for us.
How do all the children have cool work if i was in the video it would be like Hi i'm Jonh and i work at mcdonalds Btw i love the video they gave up there dream for there children 😢😢💓💓
I cried so much, and my mum came to my room and when she saw me crying she was so upset because she thought something bad happened... I love her so so much 😣💛
The seamstress one got to me because my mom was the same she wanted to be a teacher but then she had things happen to her. She loved sowing and made a business out of it and shes happy now
I can relate as my parents are both Korean immigrants, a couple of things for people like me, even though they cant buy you everything you want, and even though you dont live in a big house, or the best clothes, atleast you have something, and know that they sacrificed their familys, their home, everything, just for you.
Great video. I think the pressure to deliver returns on a creative career is something near universal for our generation. I know I could relate, anyway!
Cried. Cried cried cried. 😭
Adriana Zuniga same
I'M NOT CRYING! YOU'RE CRYING!
Jocelyne Gural was going to comment the same thing.
I AM

Alicia Mn Me to😢😢😢😓
Telling an asian parent that you are a cosplay, gaming, lifestyle social media influencer seems like it would be harder than coming out to them as gay
sangminlee1234 translation: I work in my parents store and have 1k followers on Twitch.
Lmao, its quite the title.
Lol
mostly true
As long as it's a hobby.

Similar story. Sometimes I wish my dad could be a teacher again, and don’t have to work for 10 hours a day. But he did all because of my future.
This is a true man with a very big heart, wow
Dang this almost made me cry when the parents explained their lives
They should make a series of these type of videos. Called, "Foreign Stories". I would watch :)
Edit: Thank you for the likes! ❤️
Crazy Girl good idea
Christian Reibig Thanks!!
That's actually a good idea
That's a really good idea

These moms are gorgeous. Thank you, parents, for always giving us the best.
This is one of the few sensible buzzfeed videos. Keep them coming please!

I cried when I noticed how they had to give away there dreams to protect there children and how hard they worked it’s just so emotional 😢
This is such a beautiful video. Thank you grandma, grandpa,Mom and dad for all the things that you have sacrificed for us,we truly appreciate it. No matter what,we will not let you down.
So tears were just flowing. This made me miss my Mom even more. Gonna call here right now ❤️ Thank you Buzzfeed for this.

This is so beautiful. It made me cry.
OML 😢 ... Each family has a different story and each is Beautiful in it own way. 🖤 Didn't think I would be so emotional over this, b/c I didn't think I would relate to it.
Love to these Families 🖤
Damn, I didn't expect to cry nearly as much as I did. I absolutely adore immigrant parent/children stories because they can vary so much.
Who cut the onion?
Now I'm tearing. This is so sweet. I love getting to know more about my parents when they tell me about their lives growing up in the Philippines. It's amazing how each of us has a story, but we don't necessarily know about it unless we ask.
All those stories were heartbreaking 😭😢
Can we have south Asians like Indian parents and Pakistani parents and Bangladeshi parents and like that?
apparently not asian enough!!! maybe buzzfeed will make video on brown immigrants blah blah
I swear people think that it is a different continent
you guys, they shoot this on a weekday. sometimes people aren't free y'know? also... if you want a south asian one, i watched a BF video where south asian parents teach their kids how to cook Biryani. it's cute.
They've done lots of videos about Indians.
Buzzfeed has entire videos dedicated to South Asians. Your concerns are invalid.
THE LOOK IN HER EYES WHEN HE SAID THANK YOU

Strong people right there

This hit me so hard. I am asian and just moved to Canada last August and my family has been through a lot especially my mother.
I AM CRYING. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.
I think some of us with immigrant parents sometimes take for granted of all the hardships that they have done for us.
Thank you for this video buzzfeed, such a powerful message.
💖💞💗 Omg- I'm still in tears! SOOO BEAUTIFUL!
I did not think the video would make me cry, but it did. Parents make sacrifices that we sometimes do not see.
Now I'm crying, and I need to go tell my family how much I love them
How do all the children have cool work if i was in the video it would be like
Hi i'm Jonh and i work at mcdonalds
Btw i love the video they gave up there dream for there children 😢😢💓💓

I cried so much, and my mum came to my room and when she saw me crying she was so upset because she thought something bad happened... I love her so so much 😣💛

The story about becoming a teacher made was so touching but also heartbreaking😭
Im not happy with these damn tears in my eyes, but damn Buzzfeed. You guys did it again.
The story of that lady who opened a shop breaks my heart
“I’m a housewife right now” I love how she said “right now” she’s still dreaming ❤️
This made me cry so bad...
The seamstress one got to me because my mom was the same she wanted to be a teacher but then she had things happen to her. She loved sowing and made a business out of it and shes happy now
I wanted to hug all of them specially the Filipino mom 😍😍❤️😿
GODDAMNIT BUZZFEED IM CRYING
my eyes are just sweating a lot, not crying.
Great video. Well done Buzzfeed!
Thank you Buzzfeed, I was waiting so long for us to be represented for this reason. Literally this immigration reason.
We need this to be a series
That philippino mum is so pretty ! She should be a film star !

Oh god I'm crying and so thankful for my parents right now ;-;
My parents are immigrants and I cried my eyes out in this video 😭
This hit me so squarely in the feels that I literally needed tissues afterwards due to crying like a baby.

Cried - cried & cried 😭😫
Just started but I’m sure I’ll tear up.

Which means: I dress up in gaming cosplay then post it on social media.
That’s very touching.

The one who wanted to be a teacher made me cry
I dunno what came over me but hearing what your moms did for you guys made me cry 😅😅
