  • Galco brings you an exclusive interview about Eaton's BR and CH Load Centers. Ali talks details with McKayla Beam from Eaton. Specially designed for easy installation, Eaton's BR 1-inch load centers house the branch circuit breakers and the wiring required to distribute power to individual circuits. They serve as main breaker for service entrances or as main lug when adding circuits to existing service. The main breaker protects the entire panel and can be used as a service disconnect. The branch breakers protect the wires leading to individual electrical loads such as fixtures and outlets.

    That's pretty awesome to have the option of less mess with no more pigtails. A neutral bar is a clever idea.

    So I have opted to go with the CHP60B200X9 since we have to run 12 mini-split 220v AC's here in Cabo. The Eaton catalog has CHPX9B under the "combination" column. That only pops up for indoor which I am doing. What is that? I'm pretty much winging it here in MX and my limited knowledge and code is pretty much out the window. No work permits, no code but it needs to be done right.

    Will my old BR breakers fit in a new panel?

  • @75blackviking
    @75blackviking 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Anyone noticed that the BR series dual GFCI/AFCI breakers tend to run hot, even at low current draws? I was seeing surface temps of around 120F near the breaker handle in a room temp of about 70F. I used a rather high dollar FLIR IR camera designed for electrical thermography to record the temps. This seems pretty unusual to me. I worked on 2 separate 42 space panels that had at least 30 electronic breakers in each. The AFCI only ran about 100F, but those dual purpose breakers ran close to 120. Every one of them in both panels was pulling less than 3 amps when I took those temps.

    I have a question. If you are purchasing a new panel, how do you decide between CH or BR? Are there advantages to help decide? I love what Eaton has done with the new panel and would love to replace my old cutler hammer panel. Congratulations!!

    • @Mike_Neukam
      @Mike_Neukam ปีที่แล้ว +3

      CH is a premium option with a copper bus and BR is a budget option with an aluminum bus. I don't know why you want to replace your existing panel, but if your existing CH breakers are in good condition, you may be able to reuse them in a new CH panel. If you install a new BR panel (or any other manufacturer's panel), you would need to buy all new breakers, which will add a significant amount of cost to the project.

    If I have a pigtail neutral wire, on my CH breaker, can I still terminate it to the neutral bar even though it clips into the neutral bar?

    • @travish4276
      @travish4276 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      did you find an answer? I have a new ch load center coming, and I am buying a few gfci breakers, not combo. the Eaton gfci only breakers have a neutral pigtail, I am assuming still compatible with plug on neutral load center.

    Great presentation. No need for the distracting dingling sound of the back ground music that just detracts from the presentation.

  • @kimchee94112
    @kimchee94112 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the big deal, don't you still need to connect to the neutral bus bar from the respective Romex wire circuit?

    • @qv6486
      @qv6486 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plug on neutral provides an extra terminal screw on the breaker for neutrals.
      210.12 of NEC (2017 and later)requires arc fault for just about all single phase residential circuits in the 120 v realm.
      This means aith afci breaker, the neutral from your load(romex) connects to the neutral screw of your breakers, then you connect pig tail will connect to the neutral bus bar.
      So if you got a bathroom you buy dual function breakers that provide gfci or you buy individual gfci outlets.

      @Wes Rogers The more important point is that background music is such an unnecessary distraction. It is for the same reason that when you are trying to focus on a college professor, you don't want the student sitting next to you, in the classroom, to be playing music.
