A lovely mix of nature, winter, wildlife, a cozy cabin, wonderful family/people and serenity! What a nice few days for you- sounds like you're getting the hang of the snow/winter! Thank you to Pia and Henry as well for their hospitality on letting us coming along, and explaining things
this was such a wholesome episode and really good insight into Sámi culture. Also i really appreciated Eva not eating the raindeer. great episode, thanks for this real-time adventure, and congrats on all the success with Nat Geo.
Vilk was well behaved except when he made fun of you delaying your hike on that ice road island! You could get it across by canoe in the warmer months of the year. 😊
In my 8th decade, so travelling is far behind me, but Eva's videos trigger some wonderful memories and crazy times. Makes up for being disabled in a small flat. Take care everyone.
It’s not a surprise national geo knocked on your door. You’re intrepid but gracious out there and your story telling is exceptional. This is no vlog, it’s a film. Thank you
Oh no! I wanted this video to last forever! What a great beautiful family, so wholesome! And their cabin in candlelight just makes it like a painting….Please please, Eva dear, more of these wonderful people…..could you tell them that I have fallen in love with them? And by the way…..congrats on the Nat Geo participation…..there you go sweet adorable Eva👏👏👏👏march 14, I will be watching….❤️
I find your channel so interesting. You remind me of my daughter, she is a triathlete and has traveled the world for the last 20 years. She is in Switzerland right now snowboarding with her dog, she sends me pictures of all of her adventures. You both amaze me.
I grew up in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. Many Swedish and Finnish people settled here and we also continue that Suana experience. It is amazing. I loved running out and jumping int the snow to cool off only to need to run back in to warm up.
You're up in Northern Sweden? One of my favorite channels by "Jonna Jinton" lives up there! She is amazingly talented, maybe you can visit her homestead?
Jonna Jinton is an insanely talented artist, she has one of the most beautiful channels i've ever seen on YT. And she's just a great person in general. I agree that they should meet=)
I love watching your videos and your voice is soothing. I'm just curious to know, at what point do you think you'll settle down and start a family, or is this a "permanent" lifestyle?
This is a wonderful..wonderful video. I almost teard up. As a flyfisherman i'v spent much time in The very north of Sweden hunting trout.. grayling ..and arctic char. I love the country up there and it's people. Thank you for letting us follow your Journey. ❤
I would love to see you go back in the sunmer or a different season to see the scenery, love this video. Their dinner looked amazing and a beautiful cabin
Your hosts really rolled out the red carpet for you! It all looked like a truly wonderful experience. Having lived in Texas and California for much of my life, all I could think of when you were eating the flat bread with an assortment of ingredients was "Tacos!" - Swedish style.
Ha! As a Swede my self I haven't thought about that but you're right :) But we also have Swedish tacos which is tex mex. But the first one was the original one :)
Being a lifelong Minnesotan, their 8 seasons makes sense to me. I am 3/4 Swedish (Stockholm area). Viewing your video transported me to seventh heaven. Thanks so much.
Again I appreciate your openness and sincerity. This post is a satisfying interlude in your normal set of strenuous adventures. Since I have become older and not completely well I have become much more sensitive to the cold. Although this Winter in New England has been relatively warm I have been cold since November. I am amazed by your tolerance. I am looking forward to Spring and Summer. If you ever decide to settle someplace your future as a storyteller and video producer are certain. Your presentations are done just right. You tell the story and use the video to simultaneously illustrate what you are saying. That takes talent and dedication. Thank You, Love., GregW
I have followed you for years and finally you visited my home grounds in the far north of Sweden! What a great video, so excited to follow you on your journey up there!
Eva up here the ice gets thick, car manufacturers come to Arvidsjaur from all sorts of countries to have winter tests up here and they also drive on an ice track that is a plowed lake. Winter tires from tire manufacturers are also tested there. The ice up here will be at least 50 cm thick and thicker ice.
Thanks for sharing!! I, literally, just purchased round trip tickets- US to Heathrow, from there: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Germany. I've been to Europe a dozen times, but have not visited the North. I have loved watching your journey.
Im from Sweden, but the South and to see this is so awesome! I have been in the north one time, but it was in summer. But your video makes me really wanna go there in the winter too.
Wow. What more can one say! This is going to be one of my favorite videos of your travels so far. I hate the cold, so it's interesting that my other favorite is of you traveling the ferry for 4 days in Alaska. That ice road made me think of crossing the Chesapeake Bay bridge where parts of it are built under the bay. As you're approaching those tunnels the sensation is that you're driving straight into the ocean!! Crazy crazy stuff. Thanks again for taking us along on your fabulous adventures!!
A U.S. ton is 2000 lbs. Huge congrats on the NatGeo work, that is so awesome!! Eva, you are just so awesome. I love how you wanted to learn and to eventually learn more about the Sami people. I do too. This world we share is home to so very many different ethnic groups and each one of them is important!!
Thank you for documenting and presenting my native country in such a wonderful and warm way! There is a lot of hidden gems when you are turning south again so don’t rush too fast on the way back as also the spring slowly will meet you on the way down.
What a beautiful family and how kind of them to allow you in and show you how they live. They have a beautiful home and I would argue that they live better than any of us. The spa and heating it up for you was such a nice gesture. The meal with their family was magical.
One thing I love and appreciate about you is your authenticity and how you don't have the agenda that I see so many quote van lifers living you know you're different you're a very special beautiful soul and I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your videos I'm your age and I would love to be our exploring except that I have a 14 year old son well 13 almost 14 and right now is not a good time for me to be out doing the things that I dream about doing so I just want to say thank you again and God bless you
I agree completely with that comment you mentioned and your take on it. I thought it was neat enough to see you experience Sweden in general, but to see you where I was born and raised was even better!
Fascinating. Their home looks so cozy but I imagine life must be quite challenging, as even just keeping up with the need for firewood is a constant demand. Very serene and beautiful, you kind of always wonder who the people are that live up there. Thanks for showing us and spending some time with them.
Congratulations on your National Geographics episode! That is something to be very proud of! You're a bright shining star for all to see and enjoy watching. Thank you for sharing your journey and God Bless!
Another amazing venture in a pristine setting! Would have never known there was such as a place as Huuva Hideaway until you went there. Those people have a beautiful home and a tranquil life, despite the cold.
That was literally a matchless experience, especially spending time with some local and about to know their stories especially people living in Arctic Circle, More power to you dear !
You are becoming an incredible documentary creator and I am LOVING IT! I can't wait to see your Nat Geo content and am envious. If I had my youth back, that is indeed what I would pursue; creating for Nat Geo. And what a beautiful life these people live!
Loved this episode! Driving on an ice road on the ocean. Yikes! You are a Viking Princess!. You are so natural and relaxed and jovial in your narrative. I have been an Actor for the last forty years. You might be surprised how difficult it is for an Actor to be themselves. You certainly seem honest and real. congrats on your Nat Geo Show! You should have a recurring show on NAT Geo. I have enjoyed all your videos! Be safe.😘
Awesome video as always Eva and Vlik. I really enjoy watching y'all's adventures especially winter adventures. Thanks for letting us ride along with y'all on y'all's adventures.
This is one of my favorites,I was in a village in the Artic Circle, that was called “Artic Circle”with a Bush Pilot that I had met a few days earlier in Anchorage, it was beautiful watching the River and landscape from the plane, but the village was all dirt roads and sheds. It’s much prettier where you were & the food looked great too. I had a lot of Reindeer, mostly sausage, they even served it on the Train I rode to Barrow (I think) where the huge Oil Spill was years ago & you could still see it where the rocks were discolored. Exon Valdez, maybe it was called. People dig huge holes beside Creeks in the winter, then they start fires in the bottom, then cover them with a layer of dirt and rocks, then they knock the wall down and let the water in from the Creek & have their own homemade Hot Tubs, they’re everywhere!!
I wholeheartedly did NOT want this episode to end Eva! I could bask in your storytelling with these Sami for 24hrs straight! P.S. I can totally relate with the nervousness of entering a social atmosphere after wild camping alone for so many weeks, but looks like your social skills and camera confidence blended quite nicely with their natural ambiance. Both lunch and supper looked exquisite!!! 🌿 Looking forward to more Sami storytelling in the future 🥰
I would have been nervous on the ice road at first too! What a unique road! The family was so kind to invite you and cook all that wonderful food! Interesting to hear about the reindeer and 8 seasons!
This would be a dream experience!!! So authentic and being able to just grasp the culture straight from the source! So happy for you and appreciate your wandering heart! ❤
Fascinating, and beautiful storytelling. Such a gift, to be offered intimate warm hospitality by Pia and Henry, and their space held so beautifully by your presence, all the sacred relational feels watching your interactions. I love how excited Vilk is to roll in the snow. I grew up in Manitoba, Canada, and have been out of the freezing for 25 years; this helps me appreciate many aspects of where I come from, but I sure don't miss that achy feeling of cold in the bones! Can't wait to see the next adventure story. -K
Beautiful! What a lovely family and amazing photo of the great grandfather! We were in Swedish part of Lapland a few years ago, and loved meeting and learning about Sami culture.
This is a wonderful video. Your visits with people who aren’t famous but represent remote stories are to me, always your most interesting episodes. How great to document and preserve the lesser known cultures of the world. ❤

The video is amazing. I've put Iceland and Forest Lagoon on my bucket list. Amazing adventures. Looking forward to seeing more from you. 😊
As a Swedish southerner I've only recently and randomly come to learn more about the Sami, their culture and the extent of the injustice they suffered. Most Swedes are so unaware and it's a huge shame. Thank you for highlighting them in your travels.
I used those kick sledges when I was a kid going to school! We had competitions with other kids along the way: who was the fastest :D Sometimes coming back home after school, the roads had been sanded and we had to carry the sledges.
Love that you introduced us to some wonderful people. Amazing that you show us the world through this media. Thanks for what you do. I truly appreciate it.
Congratulations on the Nat Geo gig! Those of us that have followed your content over the years have always seen Nat Geo quality and ability in your content!😊. Nice to see you getting some recognition and props for all your hard work!
The reason for the distance between vehicles when driving on the ice road is the ripple effect of water under the ice. Can potentially cause blow outs when nearing the edges where the ice meets land. And of course the combined weight of vehicles.
The ice road is a stressful way of life! If Eva saw the Ice Truckers series on the History Channel, they serve remote communities in Canada’s far north where its too expensive or impractical to service by plane or helicopter. People have to put their lives at risk because without them, such places of human habitation would be long gone.
Yes, but this is primarily for heavier vehicles, not so much for cars on thick ice. There will be a pit in the ice around the vehicle. For a heavy vehicle the pit will be deeper and if the speed is too high the ice can break in front of the car. Have happened when they transport timber with large trucks.
I used to live in Luleå and have driven my car on the very same ice road several winters. But it is a cool feeling.😊 A little hole or even a crack would not be a problem at all. A traktor or a truck can use the road until they close it for the winters season as long as you obey the road restrictions. People use the road to move objects to big or to heavy to move in the summer by boat. And yes, 'öppen' means that the road is open. 'Stängd' means the road is close for traffic (= The ice is no longer safe for vehicles) When I was young, I used a kicksledge ( We call them Spark, or Sparkstötting) to travel 3km to and from school in the winter period. I hated when the manucipalty put gravel on the roads for the cars not to slip.😂 That totally prevented a good kickslegde run. The kicksledge got stuck om the gravel corns and you almost fell over when the speed was reduced from 20 km/h to 2 km/h instantly.
After the sauna, naked of course, you should take a bath straight into the snow an rush back into the sauna again to warm up. So nice, except when the snow cover is too hard, the you scratch your skin hard.

I used those kick sledges when I was a kid going to school! We had competitions with other kids along the way: who was the fastest :D Sometimes coming back home after school, the roads had been sanded and we had to carry the sledges.
Glad you enjoy it🎉
You passed by where I used to live 🥳 Friends and family still do, give them a wave as you pass by 😊
Love that you introduced us to some wonderful people. Amazing that you show us the world through this media. Thanks for what you do. I truly appreciate it.
Wow.. it's been years since I've seen so much snow. It looks like a fairytale over there🩵
It feels like it! The snow just makes everything so beautiful
She would have missed all that in the summer! The best thing in life is timing. 😎

The reason for the distance between vehicles when driving on the ice road is the ripple effect of water under the ice. Can potentially cause blow outs when nearing the edges where the ice meets land. And of course the combined weight of vehicles.
Interesting!
I would only with one or two other vehicles be on the ice road.
If you have a Problem no administration or others are there.
Very dumb to drive alone.
Loved this so much. What a gorgeous cozy place to live. Your life is fascinating, Eva!
'Stängd' means the road is close for traffic (= The ice is no longer safe for vehicles)
When I was young, I used a kicksledge ( We call them Spark, or Sparkstötting) to travel 3km to and from school in the winter period. I hated when the manucipalty put gravel on the roads for the cars not to slip.😂 That totally prevented a good kickslegde run. The kicksledge got stuck om the gravel corns and you almost fell over when the speed was reduced from 20 km/h to 2 km/h instantly.
Such a cool experience!
After the sauna, naked of course, you should take a bath straight into the snow an rush back into the sauna again to warm up. So nice, except when the snow cover is too hard, the you scratch your skin hard.
Been watching forever. You are such a beautiful person inside and out.
Lovely people and very cozy home
